Do you think you could use soda crystals? I'd be tempted to call oven cleaners or whatever they're called. Not very MSE, but this time of year its also about saving your time and sanity.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Astonish every time. It's £1 in the poundshop (surprisingly....) it gets it sparkling clean!! It has a very small amount of rough bits in it but I use it on my halogen with no probs. I'm asthmatic too and allergic to all sorts but this is fine!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

Can you borrow a steam cleaner? It's the only non chemical (asthmatic husband and a general dislike of chemicals) way I've ever found of getting nasty cookers clean (don't feel ashamed - you're not alone!)Piglet

Try neat stardrops, it should cut through grease.0

another method (favoured by Kim and Aggie) is to cover the hob with a paste made from biological washing powder and water then heat with a hairdryer (the heat activates the enzymes in the powder). until the grease etc starts to 'lift'. It takes a bit of work sponging all the powder off but you DO end up with a sparkly clean hob ( I did this when I came back off holiday and found that my gas hob was filthy from son making fryups!0

Start with wetting some teatowels or old cloths in hot water with a squirt of washing up liquid and laying them on the cooker top, avoiding the rings. Take any removable pan supports off first of course! Leave for a couple of hours for the dirt to "soak". This softens and lifts off quite a lot of the burnt on lumps of grease. Use a wooden spatula to scrape stubborn but still soft lumps. Once you get them part scraped off, soak again.
You can use this method quite safely on any hob top , or combined with other methods above.Val.0 -
I use a mixture of soda crystals, white vinegar and a few drops of lavender oil - this is my all purpose cleaner. I used to add stardrops as well but found it dried my hands and I didn't really need it anyway.
Even when I have been a bit lax and left the hob for a week (or even two - the shame!) this just lifts the grease off.
I use a spray bottle and make sure the hob is covered very liberally and then leave it for about 10 mins. A quick wipe is all that's needed.0 -

I can vouch for Astonish as well. I've quoted it because the comment made me burst out laughing, thanks !!!!
I'll be laughing at that all day now.0 -
