  • Basically i'm in student flats....so you can imagine the state of my oven...and i have no idea whats stuck to the bottom of it but i went to put chips in and after 5 minutes the kitchen was full of smoke  (which kinda proves that our fire alarm doesnt work aswell......)

Now i have no oven cleaners, and i have no bicarb of soda and no white vinegar, rang mother who said to use washing up liquid and boiling water which has got some of it off but the oven is still covered and i've been scrubbing for absolutely ages! (and im starving because ive been waiting for my chips for over 2 hours!)

Any suggestions on what could be used? the only "cleaner" style stuff i have is an all purpose cleaner and some pine disinfectant, hadnt bought kitchen cleaning stuff yet as was planning to split costs with flat mates...

ANY help is appreciated! thanks in advance!!

Have you got washing powder? this made up into a paste & left for a while usually works. HTH

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!

its in a square ish blue tub, fantastic stuff, another thing to try though a bit messier is a paste made with bio washing powder (the cheap stuff from say sainsburys will do)

Having done a few march outs in my time which include taking cookers apart and putting back together again, I can honestly say the best thing with the least scrubbing is Oven Mate and you will find this in Lakeland. Put on, leave and wipe off. I was truely stunned when I used it. But it isnt cheap

Oven chips can be cooked under the grill if you stand by the grill and keep turning them over.... I used to prefer getting the huge Beefeater oven chips because you could turn them individually by hand easily enough.

Failing that, my next option would be to fry them in a frying pan with a tiny bit of oil and keep turning them.

After all, they're chips - can't waste them now.

I've merged this with our main oven cleaning thread to give you plenty more suggestions/methods :)

  • I opten for Oven Pride for the shelves and grill pan and Stardrops for the interior and glass ! Amazing results. We have now put an oven liner inside as well we used to use foil on the bottom and in the grill pan as it was easy to dispose of when needed but it was too light and the fan would often lift it so the liner is now heavier and custom built for the job and easy to clean.
Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
