Egg/Barclaycard PPI Claim Rejected-FOS next?

Hi guys,

Hope somebody can help? Got my 2 page rejection letter this morning from Barclaycard in reference to my Egg Credit Card PPI claim.

Am just wondering in reference to asking the FOS to look at it on my behalf. Do I have to ring FOS to see if they will take on my case or is it just a matter of completing the initial Ombudsman complaint form and sending that to them alongwith the completed PPI Consumer questionnaire that I sent into Barclaycard as part of my initial request?

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

The FOS will consider the complaint so you can refer it direct to them. They will obtain information you sent to Barclays and will ask you to provide any proof that you did not supply to Barclays to support your complaint.

Not sure if its worth pursuing but we'll see how it goes.

The biggest issue you will have is if you closed the Egg account before it went to Barclays. If you did then Barclays have little or no information and you cannot argue that point unless you have evidence to show a wrong doing.

The account was only closed in the middle of 2011, and as far as I'm aware BarclayCard had taken over Egg Card at that stage. The argument I was basing my case on was that I applied for the card in 1999 by way of an online application via the EGG website at the time of pre-ticked application forms for purchasing the insurance.

Hi there I was wondering smurf71 if you had any idea how i could contact egg/barclay. Maybe its not worth my while but i had a substantial loan and credit card that was settled in 2007 and 2008. I threw away all paperwork and only know how much the final loan was and card amount. I know that i paid ppi on both because i thought i had no choice! I don't have account details so id imagine Barclays wont be able to help me what do you think?

I contacted Barclaycard through their customer complaints department.

And I got my credit report from Experian which told me when I opened the account (as it was in 1999) and my Egg Card Number.

And look at the home page of the MSE website. You will see a section dealing with PPI complaints with sample cover letters as to what you should say to Barclaycard.

I am currently contacting Barclaycard as they have taken over my Egg card. I am in the same situation as you Smurf71 in that I took the card out pre 2007 BUT I am not sure if I have been paying PPI! Have you had any luck with BC?

Hiya,

Barclaycard refused my application so am referring it now to FOS.

If you look at the statements you were getting from Egg online, you should be able to see if you were paying PPI or Credit Card Protection. Thats how I knew that I was paying it.

Ive tried to log on to my egg account but it does not have any of my accounts showing even though I was receiving e mails saying my statements were available in October 2011. Would Egg or Barclaycard have this?

Can I ask how long it took for them to reply? Im awaiting a response regarding an Egg and a barclaycard credit card and wondering if no news is good news or if they are just incredibly slow? Thanks
