People on benefits, exist, they don't live. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and if people do this voluntarily, go nuts.

Actually, people who live on benefits (particularly if they have children) are often better off than those on comparatively poorly paid jobs - that's the problem with our system.

Everyone is better than minimum wage. Even if a business is employing you to spend all day watching paint dry they should at least pay you a Living Wage - if you work full time you should be able to independently feed, clothe and house yourself and your family and very few people can do that on minimum wage.

Nobody over 25 has to live on NMW unless they live with someone earning enough to put them over the limit for claiming tax credits or help with the rent.

You might be a happier and healthier person if you weren't as concerned with how other people live their lives
I'm very healthy and happy, thank you.

Am I not allowed to be miffed at the fact that I work 37 hours a week, pay taxes, while a minority think it's OK to sit about doing nothing, while people like me fund this choice?

As discussed already, if people don't want to work, they don't have to, but they shouldn't expect other people to pay for this lifestyle choice. And that's what it has become for many, a lifestyle, rather than a temporary safety net.

LFN, this is a good idea in theory but sadly not realistic. If employers suddenly had to pay their staff an extra 50%, do you think they'd be able to keep all of their staff on, or even stay afloat?

Or course people over the age of 25 have to live on NMW. Why wouldn't they?

Tax Credits will boost the income of someone over the age of 25 if they live in a single income household.

Because (as I said in my post) they can claim tax credits and/or help with their rent!

I'm not 100% sure but I think it's the household income that is taken in to account, not the individuals.

And I know housing benefit is not to paid to people who live with / rent from their family, so prob not.......

the website for tax credits says '
    Household Income
This is the income of individuals or a joint income if you are a couple.

We do not include income your children may have had, unless it is taxable in your name or your partner's name. '

Not if you live in someone elses household so guess single people who live with family who earn nmw get nothing extra as usual
