I I think there's far too much emphasis on getting a job for the sake of it, especially when you feel that you are effectively working for nothing.

You're not working for nothing tho! It means you're not sponging off the state and tax payers.

Are you looking for another job if you hate yours so much?

I have been in a job for 10 years, my salary was taxed at 40% for most of that time so..... How are "other people" paying for me being off work now?

Personally I see it as I have paid for this myself, by years of working previously and paying massive taxes previously.

I have been off work for a year now and will NOT take on a job that pays much less than my previous job, sorry.

it really gets me going when someone says that whoever is claiming JSA is living of "other people's taxes" .. No - I live of my own taxes that I have paid over the years - till I find a job that allows me to come off the JSA.

So how long are you going to sit about claiming benefits for if a job that pays £x never appears? Can i ask what this figure is?

Also, do you think the majority of people that claim JSA have been high level tax payers for a number of years and "deserve" the benefits that they are claiming? Thought not.

What would any of those who refuse to take jobs they do not like say to the person who does a job they hate, for little money and then a chunk is taken off them to allow the more fussy ones to stay at home until something they think befitting to their status comes along?
  • People who hate/dislike their jobs should be looking for alternative work.People who are severley clinically depressed and who cant manage should be at home trying to get well through discussion with the G.P/medication/counselling.
I wouldnt wish severe depression on anyone and even when I was in a well paid job which I hated I wouldnt have wished this on my worst enemy. I do think though that people should be trying to get a job, but people need to remember that peoples tolerance levels are different. What is acceptable to one person isnt to another. At the very least a person needs to be able to tolerate a job without it making them ill.
I dont think its about being fussy as most people will do most things, its about being sensible and looking after yourself.

i'm probably in a minority here, but i genuinely don't care if people don't want to work and live off benefits.

Because, bluntly, their lives will probably be sh*t. mine isn't, i've a good job my monthly deductions are more than my take home was in my previous job.

My standard of living is great, I get to do loads of cool things, travel pretty much anywhere in the world

People on benefits, exist, they don't live. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and if people do this voluntarily, go nuts.

If in this day and age people have such little ambition that all they want from their lives is daytime tv and having little disposable cash, again, go nuts.

For me it's the same as prisoners having tvs or households with 10 kids getting £40K a year in benefits, i wouldn't swap what i have for that pathetic existence.

Neither do people on min wage and quite often they get treated like crap for the privilege, so which is better?

people on NMW can (admittedly not all will) PROGRESS and gain a better standard of living, through gaining experience which might get them a better paid job or internal promotion, again it comes back to ambition. Those on benefits, who "want" to be on benefits will never ever better their situation and they will be on the bottom rung of society forever

    so for me it's obvious

I know I'd rather have a job (even@minmum wage) mainly for the self respect of when I get my pay, knowing that I earned it, rather than just putting my hand out every week.

And as someone said you are working to build your experience and prospects to earn better money in the future. You can't just expect to walk straight in to a 30k a year position. I studied at uni for 4 years and started a job at just over minimum wage but have spent the last 6 years working my way up so now I earn a decent salary.
I could have sat about on the dole moaning about the crap wage I was on, but where was that going to get me?

I am not going to say how much am I looking to get paid but it defiitely has to be in 40% Tax bracket , this is what I am worth this is what I spent years studying/training for and I am not going to go to work for less. My taxes (just taxes, seprate from NI of course)were almost 900 per month, every month for 10 years - I do not get 800 per month now being on JSA of course so I have been paying for myself and for others.

I do not know about "majority of people" - so I am not going to judge as I do not know ever person's personal circumstances.

I just gave myself as an example to give a bit of bal;ance to discussion.

    We're all different.
Some people value free time and not having to answer to a boss at work 5 days per week over having lots of money.
If you are that person, an you are lucky enough to live in the UK, then that life is available to you.
As for 'not expecting us to pay for your life style'...why not? You do. That's why people expect it. You dont control what the Government does with your tax money. You can't change it. Accept it. Don't moan about people being lazy and exploiting the system. They are taking what is on offer to them. They have different morals and values to you.

Personally, I work 6 days per week and hate it. I don't bare any grudges to people living a life on benefits because they don't want to work. When it all gets too much and I feel suicidal, i'll probably join them, lol!!
