Ive recently walked out of a job because of conditions (and worse) like you describe.

Its one thing for people to tell me how 'stupid' Ive been to leave, and how 'lucky' I was to have a job in the first place, but its quite another to have to work somewhere which has absolutely no heating (to the point where one of my colleagues contracted pneumonia), where I would regularly do 8 hour shifts with NO breaks (not even bathroom breaks, because there was NO TOILET on site), where I had to work with wiring and electrics that couldnt get a safety certificate, so they sparked and jumped all over the place, and god forbid something shouldve happened, because the fire escape had been concreted over.
Couple that with a boss who would happily SCREAM in my face and call me stupid in front of customers if I dared question anything....

So while Im job seeking now, I dont want a well paid job, I dont expect miracles. I just want a job where I can go for a wee if I need to :D
why did you not make an anonymous tip off to Health and Safety at the local town hall?

I disagree personally, but I'd suggest there's a lot more bad employers than good ones :]

You see the problem is now employers feel they can do what ever the hell they want with the employment situation the way it is, everyone fears for their jobs and if you don't like it you know what you can do.

    I did ;)
But 'management' managed to blag and lie their way out of the whole situation.
And ex employee also rang the fire service about the building, but they wormed their way out of that one too....
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

they must have paid them then as the fire service can shut anything down within minutes and if there was bare wires like you say they would have seen them. Plus you are meant to have all equipment checked every year.

I was told that the fire service recieved a tip off about the lack of fire escape, not the wiring, so I dont think they checked that as they were there....
Im STILL not sure how they wangled their way out of the 'fire escape' thing, as I wasnt there on the day they came in (dammit, I LOVE a man in uniform!)

i'm probably in a minority here, but i genuinely don't care if people don't want to work and live off benefits.

Because, bluntly, their lives will probably be sh*t. mine isn't, i've a good job my monthly deductions are more than my take home was in my previous job.

My standard of living is great, I get to do loads of cool things, travel pretty much anywhere in the world

People on benefits, exist, they don't live. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and if people do this voluntarily, go nuts.

If in this day and age people have such little ambition that all they want from their lives is daytime tv and having little disposable cash, again, go nuts.

For me it's the same as prisoners having tvs or households with 10 kids getting £40K a year in benefits, i wouldn't swap what i have for that pathetic existence.

my good neighbours are happy with the cruises they go on while on benefits & i have friends who own more than one property abroad as well , im not saying thats right , i just think that while you are happy at work , they are getting on with their lives , i suggest you pull your head out of the sand or better still take some time off & join these people enjoying life 52 weeks a year, its not a life for me! , but a lot of people do enjoy it.

I agree with zaffi. There aren't enough jobs to go round so why not give them to the people who want to work insead of forcing those that don't. I think I'm in favour of capping benefits though as some seem to get far more than I have ever earned which doesn't seem quite right. But still, I worked when I didn't need to and had my wages pound for pound taken off my benefit and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

So how long are you going to sit about claiming benefits for if a job that pays £x never appears? Can i ask what this figure is?

Also, do you think the majority of people that claim JSA have been high level tax payers for a number of years and "deserve" the benefits that they are claiming? Thought not.

You might be a happier and healthier person if you weren't as concerned with how other people live their lives - if some stranger's hypothetical situation posted on the internet gets you this angry, I wouldn't like to see the curtain-twitching you get up to in your actual life.

Enjoy your own life - there's no need to rubber-neck on anyone else's.

To me a job is a job, my current job is ok but im still not sure if its a job i can see myself doing long term but i am actively looking for another job but currently drawing a blank.

It wasn't a graduate position. It was as a temp job as a filing clerk.

90% politics? Nonsense. Try 90% determination, hard work, and not thinking that you're better than minimum wage.

Everyone is better than minimum wage. Even if a business is employing you to spend all day watching paint dry they should at least pay you a Living Wage - if you work full time you should be able to independently feed, clothe and house yourself and your family and very few people can do that on minimum wage.
