£8.41 made from the 3 items I have just posted. Not the best but it's something!
Postage can be really steep, I was caught out today as I had listed a coat at a £6.99 start price with free P&P. Normally all of my stuff goes 2nd class and cost about £3.80 but this coat despite being a childs coat was too heavy for 2nd class so I had to send it as a parcel and it cost £4.41. I ended up making £1.34 on it after all the fees. Shame really but at least it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

Do people generally post second class?

I always post first class, but I say this on my listings and people pay for it. Am I better to change it all to second class and then people will pay less, but get items at a slower rate?

  • I send everything 2nd class and try my best to post by the day after they pay. I've had no complaints about it and people frequently comment on how quick they've received their item.

  • I invested in a set of digi scales and it's the best buy I've had this year! It takes a long time when listing loads of stuff but I religiously weigh every item with packaging and then round up to the nearest 10p. So most of my P&P turns out to be £1.40, £1.80 or £2.20 for 2nd class packets. This week I've had a couple of slim packets that went as a large letter and I've refunded both of the buyers the difference. I know that if I'd been overcharged (more than 20p) for P&P I'd be a bit peeved and would reflect it in the stars.

    Hi Everyone

I have been reading up on this thread today. Think its a great idea!

Was wonderinf if I could get in on the action! :) saving to go on holiday in july so need all the money I can get!

I have listing a few things on eBay last week but not sure I made any money!

I sold a book that I read ages ago and haven't looked at it again. It was quite heavy and I looked at other peoples postage and set it at the same price £3. The book went for 99p but when I posted it yesterday it cost me £3.71 then you have the fees on top of it

was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the best way to post things?

I have been using jiffy bags for everything as you can get 4 for £1 in the £1 shop

    thanks
I always weigh my items when I write the listing so I know what the postage will exactly be. I reuse jiffy bags that Mr F or I get in the post. I also have a friend who saves her jiffy bags for me - so far - not had to buy any!

I bought a multipack of postage bags a couple of years ago. I think there were 1-200 in there. It worked out at about 20p per bag. I then write on these with either permanent marker or biro, both work equally as well.
Unfortunately, I was marked down on my DSR's a couple of weeks ago on P&P as I had guestimated P&P but when it went, it was actually able to go through as a letter. I couldn't figure out which item was charged what though because the lady at the PO was yacking and typed all of the proofs onto receipts which were printed at the end and I completely lost track. I may actually need to get myself some real life envelopes soon though as they seem to be cheaper for postage. A lot of thin tops will go as a letter if in an envelope but if they are in a plastic package, they fall down and need to go as a packet.

I saw the lady from the post office today as I was heading down with arms full of my packets. She was just heading on her lunch break and she recognized me! The one I got today wasn't nearly as much fun :)

I'm lucky that I haven't yet had to buy anything for posting. We have postage bags and jiffy bags at work that my boss lets me take for free :-) I print out addresses with a small description (ie black dress) and my boss packages items up and sellotapes on the address. Or the guys in my yard keep boxes and bubble wrap for bigger things, saves it going in the skip

I tend to send my items via first class IF they'll go via Large Letter, and 2nd class if they dont. I normally post the same or following day of payment. I have 5stars for postage and 4.9 for dispatch YAY!!

I try to make sure that everything that can go via Large Letter does, as it makes things quicker in our post office as she'll weigh, measure and print everything in one go, whereas with the proper parcels, she does them one at a time and i'l easily be in there 20 minutes with a grumpy toddler!
  • morning all,

Found http://www.royalmail.com/customer-service/certificate-posting the other day. Quicker to fill in this and get the PO staff to stamp it than asking them to print off individual proof of postage.

Thought it might help others :)

Just another question one item I sold on Sunday night the buyer still hasn't paid yet and I have sent another invoice yesterday but still nothing what would I do? Relist the item? Open a case?
