Considering the limited information available about what Novusgps plans are or who are actually running the business, I think it is too early to start speculating that data updates are going to be few and far between.
to be honest with you although safeandsecure may only be trying to pass on information that he thinks people should know, who is to say that he is not in the speedcamera game himself and trying to scupper a new company before it has had chance to prove itself, he could be one of the ex-directors from Talex, we wouldn't knowhell it could even be someone from Pocket GPS or some other supplier concerned that someone is offering life time free subscriptions for something that they themselves charge for
My advice,
If your interested in the product from Aldi then buy it you could always return it for a refund within 30 days if things dont look as though they are going to work through novusgps, or sit back and see how it pans out then maybe kick yourself because you can't buy one from Aldi any more, or even look at some of the alternative options available that are on paid for subscription.
I'd like to see more information on the Novusgps site myself but can see the domain was only registered Nov so they may still be in the building stage for their website, I have never seen the Talex website to know what they offered their users, but the very least I would like to see from Novusgps is a user forum where we can discuss any issues in the open, not just a sales page with minimal links.
Hi,
Just to put the record straight. I have no vested interest in any other company and my only concern is that people are being mislead. The database is not only well out of date but subject to a dispute between the two companies. Where will that leave customers if or when this goes to court!0 -
A lot of SatNavs and Safety Camera Detectors can use this link and get a top rated Safety Camera Database, regularly updated for a very small annual fee: www.pocketgpsworld.com
Unfortunately it won't work on every type (including my Evesham unit) but they list the ones that it will. Also if you send them details of a new camera position, you get updates free for life. Just checked and the Talex is not listed either, but for those who got their money back, this could be a factor on a future purchase."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

Talex Safety Camera Detectors:
There have recently been some concern about the ongoing availability of camera updates for the Talex Lite device, since the supplier, Embedded Technology Ltd, have gone into receivership.
This situation will actually benefit many people with future camera database updates. If you already have the Talex 'update kit', with the required Talex to USB lead, you are able to obtain lifetime updates from Novus Systems, who are now maintaining the camera database, free of charge. Update Kits can also be purchased directly from Novus Systems.
To get the new updates you need to download the new update utility from NovusGPS. Carrying out updates from the existing Talex Utility will result in the database being replaced with the same data over and over again, and not receiving any new information.
Novus systems are available to support customers on 0845 659 0959

BTW These systems (NOVUS) are being sold before thier official release.. When I first contacted NOVUS about the free updates they told me then that the deal done to supply the system was brought forward and it was not intended for release before january as the update program would not be up and running before then... They were in the process of re checking the whole system. The BUY subscription that is being reffered to is for the TALEXELITE/ NOVUS ALPHA as these are not free databases and only come with 12 months free updates.0 -
But you must admit everything looks a bit suspect sco0ter, the updates may well be fine, but all this stuff going on with them isn't very confidence boosting - sorry to say. I'd rather have my money back and buy if autoexpress turns out to praise it again.
I think you are right. All of the products are good but as I pointed out before without a quality database what use are they. Both the new Talex company and Novus will have to work hard to ensure that they can provide up to date information. Remember that thousands of existing Talex customers are already caught up in this. What would happen if they all returned their products to Aldi Tesco etc?0 -
I think safeandsecure should come clean about his involvment with Talex because he sure seems to give the impression he knows alot of the background towards the Talex demise and workings.
This bit that safeandsecure postedThe free updates link was just a ploy to steal Talex customers and get then over to Novus. The only people who will lose out will be those who buy thinking they are getting a quality product. I would encourage people to return the products to Aldi explaining why they are being returned. I know that Aldi were told of the problems.
Makes me feel that he is one of the 2 ex-business partners, as he seems to indicate that he has background knowledge of Novusgps intensions, casting doubt on the quality of the product/service before its fully operational, and how does he know Aldi were informed of the problems, personally I think what he has posted verges on the side of libel as people have already indicated that they may be returning their purchase or maybe not making a purchase based on what he has posted, and if I was a owner of Novusgps I would be rather p'd off knowing that this was happening during the initial launch of a new business venture and lets not forget Aldi, how p'd off will they be if people started returning their purchase because someone said that Aldi knew there was problems with a service provider before marketing the product for sale.
But as I have said I would like to see more info coming from Novusgps regarding the service/product they will be providing than the crappy lack of information website they currently have.
Think I'll email them a link to this thread and see if they would like to comment and maybe ease members doubts.

Look at the new Talex site, it is on about selling subscriptions http://www.talex.co.uk/ I sent them a message to ask about the apparent U-turn but no response as yet.0 -

This was part of the plan by Novus to steal the Talex customers. This was blocked by the administrator and if you check out the Novus website the link has been removed. Halfords are now talking to the new Talex owners. Novus does not own the Talex brand or database. Trust me this will get so messy.
I wish I could say more.0 -

Good idea, I should have done that in the e-mail I sent.
And we all must admit, whatever safeandsecure's intentions, he/she is not promoting any other product or service, simply warning against Novus and the "talex" database. I thank them for taking the time to come and register and let us know a bit of what's going on behind the scenes.0 -

In answer no I am not connected with either company. Read my comments I am only raising my concerns that legal action between these companies may hurt customers. All the products are good but as a whistleblower people need to know what is going on.0 -

Then how come someone on this forum found a test mode on the GPS rider that when used it announces "Talex System Active".. If they dont own/have permission for the talex brand then how can they get away with just rebranding thier systems... Surely theft??safeandsecure wrote: »I wish I could say more.0
