Take it back and get it replaced with the new version then your sure to have the most up to date hardware with the added security in that you will be getting free updates.

My own personal feelings with ref to the Talex model is that if Novusgps were taking over the old models then the Talex website would have had a redirect to Novusgps as standard for most changes of sevice provider, rather than the website just being taken down.
Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS
• I only saw that model on display I couldn't see any other although when I saw it I thought "is that the one advertised on their website and leaflet". I looked for leaflets in the store advertising it but couldn't find any.
Mabye they don't have the new one at my branch ?
• I have got a Talex Lite and have a data base update subscription also.
Here is a copy of the email I was sent informing of the changes.

NOVUS have already had the latest databases for the TALEX and TALEX LITE on thier site (NOV 2007). They dont do it the same way as the old TALEX... there is no hardware ident (at least for the talex and talex lite) but you do need to buy a cable to connect to PC in order to download the updates to your talex.

The updates came in a downloadable exe file that contains all data so no need for the unit to be even connected to the PC when its downloaded. Then all you do is connect your talex and run the file and it updates your database..

Heres the email I got
FREE LIFETIME UPDATES FROM NOVUS SYSTEMS FOR ALL TALEX AND TALEX LITE CUSTOMERS

NOVUS Systems is able to offer free lifetime updates to all TALEX and TALEX Lite customers. By visiting www.novusgps.com and following the instructions you will be able to obtain free lifetime updates providing you have the USB download data cable. For those customers who have purchased a TALEX or a subscription kit for the TALEX Lite you will have the required download cable. All you have to do is follow the instructions and download the USB driver and then download either the TALEX or TALEX Lite update utility. As soon as this is loaded there is no complicated registration process, you simply connect your device to your PC via the USB download cable and obtain the latest updates. The process of updating the products is much simpler and overcomes some observed issues associated with anti virus software. For those customers that do not have the USB download data cable, this can be purchased from NOVUS Systems or TALEX resellers for £15.99 inc VAT. Postage and packing is £3.50.
Novus Systems is able to offer continued support and FREE lifetime updates to existing TALEX and TALEX Lite customers providing they download the latest update utility from the NOVUS Systems following the demise of Embedded Technology who went into administration recently.
In terms of updating the database, NOVUS Systems is committed to providing the same high quality database that TALEX customers have come to expect. The updates will be provided on a regular basis to customers.
NOVUS Systems Ltd has been formed with the backing of an investor with successful complimentary GPS based businesses already established in the UK and South Africa. The investor has tracking based products that will be offered by NOVUS Systems under a new brand in 2008.
NOVUS Systems will shortly be offering a range of speed camera detector products under a new brand name with identical functionaliy and capability. The majority of which will include FREE Lifetime updates. We will be offering a new product early in the new year based on a small colour screen featuring a new concept called road profiling. More details on this product will be advised shortly.
We hope that we can continue to provide quality products, support, and service to all TALEX customers.
If you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. All orders should be sent via email at Info@novusGPS.com or phoned in on 0845 659 0959.

• Thanks for that info.

I wonder if the USB drivers work with Vista as some drivers only work with XP ?

I don't have the cable. Almost £20 seems a lot as normal USB leads are only a few pounds.
• ok quick question

so if i buy the one from aldi i will never need to pay for updates again?
if so how do i update it does it come with a usb cable?

also if i was to buy one from flee bay would i need to pay for the updates?

is aldi open today?
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.:D
• I drive 20,000 miles plus a year.
Passed my test in 1983 yet never had a single point on my licence, ever!
No GPS Sat Nav or Speed Cam detector in my car.
I use common sense and drive according to what the road signs say.

It's not hard to be a considerate and lawful driver. Too many muppets on the road driving like complete clowns and relying on gadgets to keep them under control, especially those clowns in BMW's

Depends if you get the GPSRIDER OR TALEX.. According to TALEX and NOVUS updates are free for all TALEX and TALEX LITE but you need to buy an update cable.. The GPSRIDER comes with the cable and is free
