as I explained before if you have the talex software installed you do not need the driver since it gets installed with the talex update program. If there is no existing software you can either install the complete talex software or alternatively the driver and program seperately from the talex link in my previous post.

Likewise for novus, if the talex software is installed no driver is needed, just download the delta exe and double click. If no software is installed you can use the novus driver in my previous post link. Install ,reboot, then update.

As far as I can see the talex and novus drivers are the same, the only difference is talex requires their program installed to update, whereas novus updates need no seperate program.

    Hope that's clear ;)
  • Hi Talex user, thanks, appreciate your guidance. I am a bit thick on PC's and all this double database choices stuff is worrying.
I would hate to mess up my 'Lite' by using my brothers original talex serial driver (for the 'full' unit). However using the Novus database 'seems' to have got his unit to 8044. So, I will go for the Novus 'Delta' version for mine and see what happens. Daughter's boyfriend has a 'Rider' and recons it uses the same USB cable so I may be in luck! silversurfer2

sounds like you should find a cable that works. Just don't put the novus rider update in the talex, it wipes the memory, makes the unit appear dead. But you can restore it again with either the novus delta update or a talex update with no ill effects. Good luck!
  • Hi Talexuser, True to form I got it wrong a couple of times, no matter how I tried could'nt find a working port. Rang Novus and got quickly put through to tec. guy who made some suggestions. No idea how I did it but eventually after lots of plug in/out/restart it loaded update 8045. so off out tomorow to see if it knows about our local new speed limit/mobile fishing site (a nice downhill slope that used to be 40 but now 30, sure to catch a few fish, sorry lawbrakers!) thanks again silversurfer2

if you have a rider I guess you need this page
    http://www.novusgps.com/rider.html
first install the usb driver, reboot, then try the rider update.

Im going to transfer over to the Novus database full time now... The Talex one is getting beyond a joke with even more mistakes now. I have also recieved another e-mail from ADAM BLAIR regarding his BTST Laser Detector.. Now he claims it can give you 3 seconds warning to slow down as this is how long it takes for the camera to get a lock.... Looks like he has abandoned the GPS device in favour of the laser one.. What happened to the new GPS devices he promised??? What happened to a decent website instead of just a link to pay for subscriptions???.. Might just have to make the jump to Roadangel or something like that as if the novus database is as bad as the TALEX one.

I gave up with road angel and went to talex due to even worse database. I have spoken to talex today they are putting everything in place for a major launch soon. due to legal technicalities they havent been able to do much until now, but rest assured it will all come to life very soon.
Hi, Talexuser, thanks for that I'll ring them on Monday. My brother has a full spec. talex and the data cable, this has a triple contact band mini headphone jack to plug into the talex 'port' socket. It is far too big to go into the 'lite' socket.
Frustratingly, on the 'lite' there is no 'port' only an 'option' socket (which is much smaller) and it is difficult to see on the data page the relative size, it looks the same as a mini jack ? but perhaps it's a micro jack?
I assume I can download updates from their site? If I remember correctly originally I needed to buy a CD programme disc? silversurfer2.

Cheap leads dont work, i found this out the hard way, the lead you need has a bulge near one end which contains some clever electrical circultry.

I'm sorry but it's goiing to be rubbish. The claims he makes in the email are quite simple not true. It does not take 3 secs to take a reading, it takes less than 1 second with a laser gun. The only way they work is the random occurance of maybe picking up the scatter from a car being checked right in front of you, that is the only time you can react quick enough. If they are locked on to you, forget it, you are toast, no matter how hard you brake.

It takes a third of a second to take a reading, the laser device just warns the ticket is now in the post. however if its a good laser detector it might warn you of some scatter, so not totally useless but as the beam is only about a meter wide when it hits the car you really need a laser sensor on the number plate area and not your windscreen.

Also anyone moaning about the database have you thought about reporting the problems? there are 250,000 miles of roads in the uk which would take either a very large team or a very long time by a few people to cover (think its 3 months of man hours iirc).

You can report database problems to:

    novus: database@novus.com
    Talex: sw@talex.co.uk

have you thought about trying pocketgpsworlds database?

They dont listen... Before it all went pear shaped there used to be a woman who dealt with the database. I phoned her a few times with updated info and emailed as well and all corrections were verified and put in the database in a matter of days.. So far I have reported 15 faults with the new Talex database over 6 weeks and ALL are still there with more being made with almost every update.

Also I wouldnt buy a GPS product from a guy who says on another website that they are useless and Laser detectors are better. I continually get emails from him regarding the BTST laser detector to try and get me to buy it but not one even updating me or telling me about changes for a product I have paid for.

Someone was messing about with one on another forum (briskoda) but I don't know if he managed to crack it.
