Hi Folks, I have a Talex lite bought from Aldi and need an update cable with tiny plug to fit to 'port' socket. Aldi are no help. Has any forum user an idea where I can get a cable and best place (bearing in mind all the contraversy covered in these posts) to go to update the device. Thanks, Silversurfer20

Hi, Talexuser, thanks for that I'll ring them on Monday. My brother has a full spec. talex and the data cable, this has a triple contact band mini headphone jack to plug into the talex 'port' socket. It is far too big to go into the 'lite' socket.
Frustratingly, on the 'lite' there is no 'port' only an 'option' socket (which is much smaller) and it is difficult to see on the data page the relative size, it looks the same as a mini jack ? but perhaps it's a micro jack?
I assume I can download updates from their site? If I remember correctly originally I needed to buy a CD programme disc? silversurfer2.0 -
I was under the impression the update kit for the lite and full talex was idenitical which implies the port (3.5mm socket) was the same. The cable is usb B plug to 3.5mm 4 pole plug but has a serial to usb chip embedded in the plastic which explains why it is so expensive.
The talex subscription download software is available if you google for it, just not linked from the useless and uniformative talex home page. If you get the talex full programm it includes installing the driver.

If you want to use the novus update all you need is the delta driver on their webpage, unzip, install and reboot and just download the update and double click to run. If it does not find the right virtual com port right away click update again and it will cycle untill finding a port that works.

updated from 8034 to 8043 on the talex lite last week. first thing i noticed was it no longer said talex system active. the next thing i noticed today was it had lost 4 safety cameras between rochdale and burnley!!!!
have now reverted to 8034It is better to contemplate writing a malicious comment that can make you appear stupid, than to write and confirm it.0 -
Hi talexuser (and kevrex) thanks for info. First, my brother called in on me last week and we updated his full version Talex from Novus, (on 23/04/08). He now has version 8044. It too now has no mention of 'Talex system active' and no schools but milage, compass etc ok. But,worringly, it missed some new local mobile sites, following new modified lower speed limits.
(Having read through this forum we felt it might be best to avoid the Talex site? so did it from Novus)
We used his original serial (he does not have a USB socket on his own antique PC!)Talex lead, on my 'modern' USB PC. Strangely, when it was updated from Talex back in October it took ages to update 'dot by dot' across the screen. This time it just flew in, in a second or two, we wondered if it did infact change anything but ref no. !
I am not sure what the 'embedded serial chip' is but the cable will need a very tiny plug to fit in the 'port' socket on the 'lite' (the same socket is called 'option' on the full version???)
And, just popped into Aldi (in Heswall,Wirral). they are selling the GPS rider( a sort of streamlined Talex) with full life updates and cable (that unsuprisingly will fit the tiny socket on the 'lite') for discounted price £49.99. ??? Talex is dead....long live Talex! (if you buy from Aldi). silversurfer20 -
Talex database also has a lot more errors in it now.. New speed limit for specs cameras near me not fixed (still showing 70 when its 50). A full set of SPECS cameras not in database, active mobile sites removed and still the annoying speed warning on the M8. doesnt look like any of them are up to scratch.0

Hi, Folks, Just a quick update, GPS rider now discounted to 39.99 in Aldi today (28/04/08) are they unloading a problem product?
Before I update my Talex LIte from Novus, (via 'Delta' name), do I need to download a 'driver' ?
I am worried because I already have the old Talex drive (for my brothers serial cable version for his original full specTalex unit), which I want to keep on my PC. I do not want a possible clash of drivers! (not very PC literate!) silversurfer20
