Has anyone tried to download update v8030 from the Novus website for the Talex Lite? After downloading my Talex Lite wouldn't work. Luckily I still had v7113 saved and re-installing that version everything now works.
Glitch in the software or have I got a faulty unit?
just tried the 8030 update and it did the same to mine!!!! reverted to v8023 and it is ok again. dont know much about these things but i would advise people to avoid this update unless they have an older backup.
thanks to david2000 for the warningIt is better to contemplate writing a malicious comment that can make you appear stupid, than to write and confirm it.0 -

I dont get any spam from Talex, however i did get spammed 3 times in one day by Novus including the same email being sent out from Nigels own personal email address on btinternet. So Talexuser what is YOUR connection to talex/novus then as you always seem to know to much of something before something happens??
With reference to Mikeyoung 1963 I have repeatedly tried to get hold of Nigel at the end of last year to the end of January, not once could he respond and not once could anyone help. The Talex Elite, has only been updated in the past week, 20 weeks after it was released, the dodgy update that appeared at Christmas was nothing more than a red herring and had a more out of date database on it than the one it came with.
It also funny that the staff contact is of one person at Novus and no one else who did work for talex is at Novus. Its also funny that a camera location half a mile from my house took 9 MONTHS TO UPDATE on your database, there are postings on this site from last summer where i mentioned the incorrect speed limit along with one in Bristol thats still not been done. So much for getting the database updated quickly. I should also mention the mobile trap in High Wycombe that has an incorrect speed limit that will lose you your licence if you follow Novus's advice on what the speed limit is.
So as you have now tried to put the record straight lets look at what Talex have to say as neither of the two companies can actually come out and agree on the real facts and now let the users of this site decide.Steve_at_Talex wrote:Novus is being run by Nigel Carter.
Nigel was a Director with Embedded Technology Ltd the previous owners of Talex. It was he who was responsible for the failure of ET and who left the company with debts in excess of £350,000. It was Nigel I criticised for his total lack of focus and who removed me from my position. It was he who was criticised at the Tribal Hearing for a complete disrespect of not only the employment law but the Tribunal Service and the due process of the Court. The monies awarded by the Tribunal have never been paid.
In October an attempt by Nigel to have ET placed into Voluntary Administration (CVA) was blocked by Her Majesty’s Custom and Revenue service and other creditors when serious discrepancies were revealed in the financial proposals and the fact that Nigel was not only transferring all of the company assets to a new company i.e. Novus. He was using false promises to repay creditors when the facts proved the opposite.
It was after the CVA was blocked that Nigel announced that he was offering free updates for life and contacted Talex customers to make use of the Novus website to carry out that update.
He had no right at that time to contact and make that offer
He did not and does not in any way have any right to the Talex database and therefore he can not continue to use it. If he is to sell products then he must licence or buy data in from elsewhere.
He does not have any right to the research or development work carried out over the years. All of the development on the Talex Elite and Rider were paid for by ET as a Talex product.
In truth Nigel made the offer when to do so was unlawful and immoral and as an ex Police Officer these facts and others make me seethe. In doing so he effectively devalued the Talex brand and reduced the return to creditors to almost zero.
All of these matters will be dealt with in due course but the civil and business law are not the same as criminal law in as much as they are slower to deal with and all actions cost money.
I was with ET almost from its inception and I know the database inside and out. I am aware that no work is being carried out on their database and comments on the forums regarding Novus having mobile sites not on the Talex unit are because they are old sites that I have removed or amended on the current Talex data.
The database used by Novus is nearly 10 months old as little of no work was carried out after the survey team left. And in any case what he doesn’t own he can not use. If he removed the data recorded by me and my team he would be left with nothing.
I have decided to help Adam Blair fulfil his promise to Talex Customers not only because he has proved to me that he is prepared to invest in the recovery of the database but because he has never been connected with ET except as a reseller of Talex products.
There is no such thing as something for nothing and that is the case with the Novus product.
Well there you go, i feel both companies should actually put out a true statemement that they both agree on so we the customer can make our own decision. All i have seen since November is two companies that spend more time bickering than actually sorting things out. We the customer have had to put up with poor service, poor database and a total lack of customer of care for nearly 6 months.
I have a Talex Elite that according to your team would get updated once all the other products had been updated. Currently my Elite device is sat in a drawer, so much for the promise of a newer and better product which has only had two updates, one being 2 steps back to the database it came with. For a company so concerned about its customers you do little to show this in terms of updating database and for all those who have had subscriptions.
So how many customers has Novus and Talex lost? well with the article that was in Auto Express and various other forums Im hazzarding a guess of quite a lot. Why use a database thats incorrect, out of date and no or lack of customer service support.
Ok Talex site needs to be updated so they can sell devices, but looking in the shops i dont see any novus products, Talex products all seem to be out of stock and neither of the two companies seem to want to move on with terms of selling the devices.
I must get off my soap box now as like many members on here im sick and tired of the two companies bickering and slagging each other off. I have tested both databases as im fortunate enough to have two devices so i can test them both and already can see which is the more accurate. However as mentioned above I have recommended both for their own reasons, but then only time will tell.0 -
Right, I think I've sorted out the download problem. It seems that Novus has the updates in the wrong place, so if you now update a Talex Lite from the Novus Rider update, and not the Delta update, you should get v8034 and it should work!! When you open 'Rider' it shows 'Delta'!!0

I found this very useful post on another website. Now what do we do?!!
you really need to quote the other full mail from the novus guy to see the whole picture, the one you quote is from a new talex guy and is obviously partisan and somewhat suspect. Apparently the legal action that blair (new talex) took out against novus about the database (which action blair boasted about in his emails) was thrown out of court by the judge and costs were awarded against new talex.
They really need to stop bickering and get the updates and websites in order. The novus site is now ok as long as the updates keep coming (some FAQs could be added). The talex site is a disgrace, only linking to spending money on subscriptions, not to any of the download or info pages. For heaven's sakes they've had enough time now for months to update a simple website.0 -
Used the TALEX database to go to NAIRN . It picked up all cameras and even the temp specs cameras that were there. It also picks up a lot of new cameras near me but then so does the NOVUS one. The only real difference I can see between them is the horrendous errors that Talex have like a 50MPH speed cam in a car park (where there is no camera in a 5 mile radius) and a 30MPH camera on the M8 in a 50MPH zone. That and the constant hanging if I turn out of a street and approach a certain camera. That with the fact it has a mobile speed trap that is 2 miles long and cameras that you get the final 100metre warning for after you have passed them so no slow down warning.0

I've updated to v8042 and it's wiped the Talex Lite again! Tried also installing the Rider update as last time they were both in the wrong place, but this hasn't worked either.
Is everyone else experiencing the same problem?0 -
yes, same as you. This time the exe page describes the correct download so it looks like the data inside the exe is either the rider data by mistake (which will kill the unit) or has some corruption. If anyone no longer has 8035 to put back in I put it on rapidshare

novus 8042 has been corrected and loads ok now.0
