Yes, I used self raising flour. I bought it today with the caster sugar and the butter when I was in Tesco having a vision of me being a cake baker. There's more to this baking than meets the eye!

my burnt saucepan collection started with me trying to follow a simple curry recipe online,

got side tracked by pacman and space invaders, next thing smoke alarms going off and kitchen "not visible due to smoke".

Sounds like your oven temp was too low so it didn't rise, also it wouldn't be fully cooked hence the stickiness HTH xx
