Im done with the fixed v stretchy decision. We think its great and are sticking with it.
Shame on you. Looks to me that a large majority hate it as it makes the experience worse, yet you arent getting it/ listening. Most will not find this thread or how to change the option. They will either put it up with it and be annoyed or stop using the forums. I'm sorry to say you sound just like the companies you lambast who insist that their new automated system/Indian call centre is a wonderful improvement and improves choice.0 -
You could have a scrolling bar at the bottom with the headlines from your RH side bar. The right hand sidebar could then be on a pop-up option (mouseover small tab in RH margin to reveal) Voila ! stretchy with sidebar.
I do occasionally click through to interesting bits on your blog etc, but not often enough for them to hog all that width, all day, every day.
Fixed width would be ok- if only it was wider. lol0 -
Fixed width is absolutely terrible - I have a widescreen monitor and don't want to read posts in a small strip down the centre!
Web pages are supposed to be viewable on different types of device. Fixed width pages make this impossible and should be discouraged.0 -

M.Lewis should offer a referendum on the matter with one simple question, just like Salmond, in 2014.
Maybe in two and a half years people will like the fixed look!
MSE isn't a democracy.
It's Martin's site, end of. What he says goes.
I do think the forum part of the site should take into account the feelings of the users though (which to be fair, is happening to a certain extent).
I also think the powers that be look at the forum from a professional eye, rather than the eye of the ground user iyswim? It's not surprising there are times the two don't gel.Herman - MP for all!0 -
One suggestion,move the
banner away from the multi coloured masthead.
I often go to click on the above banner but get the drop down menu which is quite annoying when using a laptop.
Maybe drop it below the thick tools banner below?I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I've never posted on a forum before and want to start a new thread, but can't find out how to do it. Maybe you need to not assume everyone knows how these sites work!
I want to ask a specific question about how to declare small amounts of cash earnt while on pension guarantee credit. any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Even now I don't know whether to click 'post quick reply' or 'go advanced' ???????0 -

Your question is probably better going into this sub-forum.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=139
Once there you will find a blue button entitled New Thread at the top of all the posts on the left hand side.. Click on this and you will then have a window where you can put your title and question.Even now I don't know whether to click 'post quick reply' or 'go advanced' ???????
Post quick reply is only if you want to simply add a reply onto the bottom of a thread.
if you want to specifically answer someone else's post then use the button marked Quote at the bottom right hand side of their post. This can be helpful for people to follow what exactly you are answering on.
Go Advanced usually gives you more advanced editing options such as hyperlinks, quotes, adding images, smilies etc.0 -
