Well, I'm all for change & progress :)

It took a few days to get used to the new look, but it works fine for me now.

Also, as long as I don't get a pop up asking me to 'pay now', I still reckon I'm getting a good deal from using MSE :D

In the last 4 years I've cleared about £12,000 worth of debt, earned about £700 through quidco, learnt how to card tart & made a whole bunch of new friends

    All for free :j

So Mr. MSE all I have to say to you is :T & :A

Do what you like with your site, you wont get rid of me that easily :rotfl:

If it aint broke dont fox it.

There was nothing wrong with it, Ive had to go back to new masthead - stretchy - less bright, it was giving me a headache. It just didnt make sense to my eyes as to why the forum titles were crammed yet they were surrounded by empty space.
:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!

  • Wow, you people must have seriously big screens. Out of curiosity, what happens if you zoom in on the page (by holding down control and whizzing up on your scroll bar)? does it not then take up the whole page again? I hadn't noticed a difference in the width.

Oh, and I think a lot of you are being very rude... This website is provided for free, so in my mind everything on here is a gift, not a right. Just saying :)
  • I've got an idea which would personally suit me :rotfl: I don't know how feasible it is even if MSE towers liked it, but;

How about the panels on the right (the We Run MSE, forum jump, Latest MSE news etc) would be as it is as default, but with a minimizing arrow which pushed it to the side only a few milimetres wide allowing the forum to stretch to the full white space?

    That would be lovely
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

'Fixed width' websites are so 'made-with-MS-Publisher-circa-1995'

With respect, that's not really true. Most major sites are fixed width these days.

Here for example are CNN, BBC, The Guardian and the Telegraph on a 1600x900 laptop display - they all are fixed width, and at the same width as MSE:

The issue isn't so much the fact that the main site is fixed width.

I think the two main issues are:
    (a) fixed width doesn't work so well for forums - most major forums are stretchy by default and
    (b) with MSE you get the useless sidebar taking up much of the horizontal space, making the actual forum seem even narrower.

There seems an overwhelming thumbs down for the fixed look.
M.Lewis should offer a referendum on the matter with one simple question, just like Salmond, in 2014.
Maybe in two and a half years people will like the fixed look!

Agree, I've never even looked at that sidebar TBH, it's pretty pointless.
    Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!
