what a lovely day today, in spite of it being so cold. I`ve done loads outside because my new outdoor utility cupboard came and its set up now and already full but suddenly it was was getting very very cold, like it was falling down and I`ve come in and brought 2 bags of pellets in as well. Ah I see that the wind is from the east so no wonder it`s bitter
I just found out that I can use my nectar card all over the place and including amazon  and I`m just thinking of all the stuff I have bought from amazon around christmas.
Hope you are all feeling well and surviving this weather. If you want/need tips re getting through a bad winter then the winter thread is good. People have done all sorts and there are brilliant ideas on there0 -
ccp, I am trying a tomato called ferline this year. It is blight resistant so I won`t be fretting this year. I`ll just leave them be and see what happens.
Kittie, I trialled Ferline when it was about to be released - it sounded like such a lovely idea! I know that everyone who was successful with it found that it was indeed blight-resistant & they were lovely, BUT be warned, it isn't slug-resistant... slugs don't normally go for tomatoes, but I lost all my 6" seedlings in one horrible night!
It wouldn't happen now, the chickens have all but eradicated our slug problem, but it's worth passing on.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

That's what I love about this site- it's full of things I didn't know about before! I too have spent masses on Amazon and never knew I could use my nectar card there - I must go and investigate (without buying of course!)
It's really cold here too, a little windy but definitely what I would call raw. We've been quite lucky so far, I wonder if this will be the start of our winter?
Just opening today's mail and there is a new Costco offers booklet - off to browse that and see what deals they have coming up. I see a slow cooker if anyone is interested - it's a 5.7 litre with £10 off which makes it £35.98 incl vat. It's a Crock Pot Saute slow cooker - I don't have one so no idea if that's a good, bad or just outrageous price.0 -
thanks thriftwizard, better to be forewarned about ferline so I won`t put all my eggs in one basket
Lovely productive day here this morning. Firstly I managed to wash an expensive pillow successfully. People on mse recommended an expensive pillow called dunlopillo super comfort and they are the best pillows I have ever had. I have been adding to them over a long time, replacing when necessary but never throwing them out, just washing covers and so on and re-using for guest beds, I always use a couple of covers to protect them but over time the pillows still get a bit floppy. Instructions are to wash gently at <40 and my machine has a pillow wash so nothing ventured, it worked really well and tbh winter is the best time for me as the small utility is roasting all the time. It contains all the eco gubbins and prime radiator, which is about 8" deep and dh fixed up lines and hangers so it is now like a hostel drying room. Pillow is now laid out on the lines so I`ll see what it is like in a few hours
My bargain coat from an outlet, was £325 and is in the catalogue at that, cost me £75 because a leather toggle was broken. I carefully sourced new leather binding in the same width and colour and it arrived yesterday. I have done it, replaced broken with new and it is identical to the other straps. I am so pleased, I must admit that I took my time and thought it through as it would have been easy to spoil the coat. I sowed on an electric machine, very slowly turning by hand and with no electricity and it worked great. I`m very chuffed as it is a lifetime coat
Elastic corner straps also made on a mattress topper, actually a magnetic topper as I sleep on a load of magnets (yes I know, I am whacky). It was slipping so that will stop it, yes it works, I no longer get aches and pains
Half the flannel bedding is in the wash, it might have a fair chance of drying today, rest tomorrow. I like this weather, cold and sunny
Off to outlet on the bus tomorrow after deciding I need more wireless bras and have spotted a triumph store. Doreen aren`t glamorous but are so comfy, I get so fed up with bra wires poking me all day. Sm, have you tried the costco frozen salmon fillets? They are gorgeous and so convenient0 -
Ooh kittie, you've had me off googling about pillows now. They are the bane of my life. I can never seem to find any that are fat enough to support my head so have to have 2 but I also like one to cuddle into. Perhaps I will make it my next mission to earn enough extra on ebay to fund some lovely pillows.
I have been very good, been to the post office and posted off my latest sales and then went to Aldi and bought my shopping. £10.86 for 2 very large bags full of food. Hopefully keep the tribe fed for the next week or so.
Busy afternoon today, always a mad rush on a Wednesday as DS has swimming lessons. At least he'll be able to swim by the time we get to Florida. Hopefully he'll get up to level 4 quickly enough that I can stop his lessons soon. £8 per session here .Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

Just de-lurking to say that the only way to get points from Amazon is to log in to the nectar website BEFORE you put the item in your basket. It won't award points for things in your basket before you log in to the nectar website. I've been caught out a few times by this.
Hope this helps.(slinking off to lurk again!!)0 -
Its worth going to the nectar before you do any on-line buying to see if the site you are planning to use is registered with them, I have been found many sites I use there, so now I usually ( can't say always as still sometimes forget:o ) got to nectar site first for my on-line shopping.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

The discussion about nectar is a nice bit of timing from my POV - I've been thinking about getting one as I've started shopping in Mr S occasionally, and they always ask if I've got a nectar card. I've had a look at the website and it looks to be quite similar to a cashback website, where you have to go through their website to get your rewards. What I can't work out is which physical stores, except for Sainsburys, take nectar cards - can some of the more regular users advise, please?
kittie - I've been thinking (semi-seriously, at least) of attaching elastic braces to my duvet - it tends to slip down the bed so I'll wake up early in the morning only half-covered and freezing.I can't even blame a partner, as I'm single!
Thanks also for the tip on the pots for growing tomatoes - I've never come across those but will definitely be getting some for this year - what a great idea!
Back after a very long break!0 -

It's amazing how one word taken out of context can change the meaning of something so much. I read about your wireless bras and had visions of them sending radio signals to laptops everywhere - tee hee.
Thanks for the tip on the frozen salmon fillets. I've always bought the fresh ones then faffed around cutting them, bagging then freezing. It would be much more convenient to buy the frozen ones so I will have a look. Think I will have to go to Costco towards the weekend - I've run out of plain flour and am low on caster sugar so really could do with a visit. I did make my own caster sugar once or twice by popping ordinary stuff in the blender and whizzing but if you aren't careful you end up with confectioner's sugar which is the bane of my life as it seems to land everywhere and make things a sticky mess.0 -
Iv just applied for a nectar card, why I havnt already got one I dont know?! I feel robbed that I could have been getting points on my christmas shopping lol xx0
