you are welcome jess. In 2006 I started a thread with the objective of helping people to become aware that things were about to get very tough. It had tougher in the title. It got a huge following and eventually the thread got too big so a new tougher thread was formed. This happened over and over and the replacing thread always had tough (or tougher)in the title. There were quite a few spats in 2011 and the tougher thread was then closed, something I happened to agree with because the threads had then run their course
This none T thread is a bright, shiny, and optimistic thread to take us forward into 2012. The T is no longer tough, so need not be mentioned and I personally am grateful to scottishminnie for starting it0 -

I'm sure you'll be fine.I'm usually not bad at growing things but had a really bad year last year - I had about 20 tomato plants of different varieties and got only two or three tomatoes off some, and none at all off most of the others.
I'm really hoping for a better year this year as I adore HG tomatoes.
robsmum - orange curd sounds intriguing - I've only ever tried the lemon variety, but I love that. I've been intending to try making my own for several years - I got as far as requesting my DM's recipe but never reached the cooking stage. One day I will, I'm sure!
Back after a very long break!0 -

Hi all, not much happening here at mine. Last night of 5 tonight so I'd better get on and cook tea. At least DS has now done his homework.
We're having macaroni cheese for tea. Mmmm, yummy.
We were having a conversation yesterday about evolution of recipes in the family. Isn't it funny how you can start out by making something and within a year or two of making it, it has evolved so far from the original recipe that it's unrecognisableDebt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

I couldn`t hear half the words either. I was getting more and more mad at the sheer arrogance and selfishness of the public school types, gimme gimme gimme including someone else`s wife and giving orders while being well back and sitting on a horse. I would have been right there fighting for rights for the `working class` and now I know why the oldies feel cheated re the cradle to the grave thing. What hell kind of life did many of them have used in 2 wars as cannon fodder.
ccp, I am trying a tomato called ferline this year. It is blight resistant so I won`t be fretting this year. I`ll just leave them be and see what happens. I do use ring culture pots as it makes watering very easy. You water the outside ring up to twice a day and the amount depends on the sun. You feed into the inside pot every couple of weeks when the first truss has a baby tomato. I use the pots in any compost and in any container and you can put canes in for support

I like the sound of the ring pots. Last year was my first tomato growing year and my mum thought I'd overwatered them. They were outside and of course the Scottish weather was helping me water them too! I'll have a good look at these.
I popped into the garden center on Saturday and saw those planters for strawberries - the ones with lots of little sections where the strawberries sort of tumble over the edges (I've no idea if anyone else will know what I'm talking about?!) I did hesitate but didn't buy - ended up with a washable door mat instead!
Well, I logged onto weightwatchers - I suppose I should make a start sometime since I'm paying for it so I've eaten almost all today's allowance and have just made myself a salad for tomorrow lunchtime. No more crisps and bread for porky here, at least not for a while - they are my weakness, in fact crisp sandwiches are a real favourite. How I wish I could be one of those people who eat macrobiotic food, drink green tea and look like they enjoy it. I must have a gene missing! Hubby is so unsupportive though - he says the only way my rear end will shrink is if it meets with a bacon slicer - he's living dangerously I tell you.:)0
