Ah nasturtiums. I do remember them as a kiddler so my Dad must have had them in our borders. From a 6-10 year olds memory they have leaves like small lily pads and seeds like chickpeas but more ridges. Lyn blackfly? What sort of damage would they do? I don't want to annoy my neighbours as the next 4 gardens up are pristine.
Ack, so annoying Lyn but I would hazard a bet that it'll be something to do with the migrane. I'm sure I've read that illness shakes things up. I am shocked Orley is weaning! Time is just racing.
It's smashing that he is fishing I know. He tried when we forst came back but his heart just wasn't in it with everything going on. Now we're settled he's ready to go again. I'll just have to just remind him that we only have a shed!
Candlelight is there money off at BundQ on a pensioners day?
Ah, thanks elona. Tattie picking week off school is when folks helped pick potatoes ins't it? It all makes sense to me.
I had a canny night with youngest glue gun in hand, helping her with her Easter Egg competition entry. She's done Gangster Gr[STRIKE]ann[/STRIKE]EGGy based on the David Walliams book. Bless her, she's proud of it and I think she should stand a good chance of a prize because she's crocheted a bit herself for the cardigan but everytime there's a competition it's always the ones who buy the best that win. It really annoys a lot of us parents and even youngest says there's nothing special about a suit that a parent clicks for and the post man drops through the door. Anyway, I digress with a rant.
We've been to finalise the flooring for the kitchen. The flooring is cheapo as there's just short of 8 square meters needed. I looked at wood, relooked at wood, scratched at wood, asked questions about wood and then went for a high quality laminate with a 20 year commercial use guarentee and waterproofing. Seems counter intuitive but it's the same reason why I went for a laminate work top. My kitchen has to cope with an awful lot and I need it to last so worried about the porous element of wood. I'm happy with my decision, just asthetically could have been better. I think that's savvy though right? Doesn't matter. I've done it!I now have to decide on whether I go white grout for the tiles or grey and although grey would last asthetically indefinately this decision might make way to asthetics as I'm scared if I go grey my tiles will look like a bad pub's lavatory!
I found out yesterday that my kitchen had a pantry originally. I'm upset it has gone now as I've always wanted a pantry but that is my eating area so modern life kind has different needs. I guess originally everything was done in the living room. I'd love to see some photos of how it used to be.
Right I must go. See, once I sit downand type to you my thoughts just runaway with themselves! kettle on time x0 -
I think you're wise to go for the laminate flooring Fuds, I love my oak parquet floor but it's a real pain in the bum to keep looking good.....it's been down 4 years now and needs stripping and revarnishing but that means everything needs to come out and I keep putting it off.
As for grout for tiles, I went for a cream with my dark brownish/reddish tiles which looks lovely but they need a regrout in places and I can't find a colour match so will need to grind out and redo the lot. At least with white it's always available."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Fuds, yes, if you have a B&Q pensioners card you receive 10% off any purchases on a Wednesday, well worth waiting until midweek if possible

FUDS blackfly are a type of aphid and they are sap suckers they like broad beans and runner/French beans too and are a little nuisance! you can squish them with your fingers if you're not squeamish or as He Who Knows says apply a systemic insecticide if you use chemicals in the garden. The blackfly wash off when you prepare the leaves and flowers to eat in any case.
Nell finished for the term at lunchtime today. Morale has been and is low in the staffroom of late so the SMT decided to lift everyones spirits by providing donuts with coffee at break today, what a nice gesture, sadly they provided 40 donuts for 58 staff! what does that say to the 18 who didn't prove worthy of a donut? and does it also say they don't know how many staff there are? with the donuts coming in at £1 for 5 surely they could have afforded enough for all? who knows???
Currently planting the window boxes with petunia plug plants and hoping we don't get a frost in the next few weeks. The fig tree is sprouting and there are many embryonic figlets beside the leaf clusters breaking at the tips of the branches. Lots of honey bees around today and I got the washing dry outside, fabby dabby dosey!!!0 -
Sounds like the house is really coming on Fuddle, think you are very wise to go for durability over aesthetically pleasing, I have a wooden draining board and cuss about it every time it needs cleaning /oiling. It was already in the cottage when we moved in but it's not something I would go for if I had the choice.
It's a beautiful spring afternoon here in East Anglia, I went and did the good shopping this morning as it's so much quieter on a Thursday, the YS shelf was heaving with stuff and I came away with a few bargains for the freezer plus a really tasty veggie pate, butternut squash and pepper. It's not something that I would normally buy but was reduced to 50p so thought would give it a go, very yummy with our salad for lunch.
The vet came out to give Rosie dog her annual boosters and both girls their kennel cough medication, it's far less stressful than having to take her in (she HATES the vets with a vengeance) and worth the extra pennies. Despite her arthritis she still has reasonable mobility in her legs so we are sticking with just the supplement for now and the occasional painkiller when needed. He did say she could do with losing a few pounds so is now officially on a diet, aren't we allTalking of which :j to Lyn on your weight loss, what a sense of achievement you must feel, all ready for a summer in shorts then
I did sit outside for a while but promptly dozed off in the warm sunshine so back in now, am trying to muster enthusiasm for some more spring cleaning but failing miserably, maybe tomorrow as Capt S is out all day at the cricket, we'll see.
Love to all x0 -
I dread being 'mutton dressed as lamb', I see it so often and am determined to continue being 'me'. I think it's more likely to be cropped trousers as Nell has some she's slimmed out of that she's kept back for me. We're off for a few gorgeous days in Berlin on Monday so I'm looking forward to that so much and also being able to sit down on the plane and pull me seat belt in to a reasonable size instead of thinking 'Oh God please let it fit me!' progress!!!0

Shall be MIA until next weekend as Nell and I are off to Berlin for a few days, be good while I'm away xxx.0

Have a lovely time. You both deserve it.
DD and SIL drove me to York and back this afternoon and on the drive back we passed a B and Q which prompted them to discuss how much they needed to get for the garden etc. They were very impressed when I told them DH used to delight in waiting till Wednesdays and using his senior card to save 10% and are seriously thinking of getting me to go with them one Wednesday and save 10%."This site is addictive!"

Bon Voyage Lyn and Nell.
We're back from our weekend away in our caravan. Just.
We had a caravan tyre blow out. DD's and I out and stood behind the metal railings of the dual carriageway and a police escort to crawl to a safer place to get the AA to us. All rescued and fixed. Caravan in a good state but needs checking over and 2 new tyres. The police checked the tread on our tyres as blowouts tend to happen with well worn tyres, but, as we knew, they were quite fine. It seems that the problem has been that the tyres are very old according to the AA but as it's a caravan the milage is low therefore the treads are excellent.
If anyone buys a caravan and doesn't know the age of their tyres, even if they look in mint condition, get them changed. They could well have perished.
Lesson learned. Not really a very nice situation but managed well. It hasn't put me off but it was hairy seeing smoke and rubber shooting everywhere.
But yes, in good spirits. We're home, fire is on as the lovely sun has made way to a nippy breeze. Have a lovely Sunday evening everyone.0
