Nice to have you with us Karcher, it's my hands that are suffering I can't make them warm Brrrrr!!!

Thanks for the welcome MrsLW :).

Having cold hands and feet is horrible. I suffer from that even in the summer:(

If I'd seen your reply last night, I would have suggested wrapping your hands round a nice hot mug of tea...or failing that, putting some thermal gloves on....or even both :D

I sit as close to the woodstove as I can without burning and my hands warm up but when I have to move they cool down! Ne'mind I'll survive.

FUDS you need something substantial with a nice thick bottom like a Le Creuset kettle which is currently going for £35 in TK Maximus if you have one close enough to get there. I was lucky enough to pick up an AGA kettle that has radiating metal fins on the base for 50p in a jumble sale and I use it on the OzPig in the garden. I have a small camping kettle that holds 2 cups that I can use on my shelf on the stove. I think if you have the stove top available most folks keep a kettle of water permanently heating on there and it's the work of a couple of minutes to pull it up to boiling on the hob for tea etc. when you want hot water. Might pay to keep an eye on charity shops and I'll do the same here for you, they sometimes pop up at boot fairs, I got a heavy enamel kettle which Nell now has for 50p that would do the job nicely. So exciting thinking of you all in your own home love, really satisfying!!!

I think He Who Knows is on the mend, he's feeling much less tired and the cough is less aggressive than it was. He still gets the odd moment where it just goes on and on and on but not nearly so many of them, think the cough medicine is spot on what he needed and is working well. He thinks he might manage a Cookie walk tomorrow morning if it's dry but not if it's wet which is sensible!

Welcome to the thread Karcher :)

Can't advise on a stove kettle am afraid Fuddle, should imagine that you are getting very excited now, good news that you will have such a long overlap time so that you can really get things round before handing back your rental home.

Have had a funny old day here, went into town early to have my eyes tested, my actual prescription hasn't changed at all but I have ordered some new glasses, was ill advised on my last pair and have struggled with the varifocals ever since so have splashed out. I did get a few chores done as well but am struggling to settle to anything much at the moment, in the end I sat down intending to watch an old episode of Morse and promptly fell asleep!
It's been cold here as well Lyn and we are set for it to get worse as the week goes on, not sure I will be warm enough in my black mac on Wednesday but it's the only dark coat I have, guess best can do is layer up with thermal vest etc.
Glad to hear that HWK is feeling a big better as well.

Lainey for FiLs funeral last January I wore a long sleeved thermal top, thick opaque tights, knee boots, a lined shift dress & matching jacket topped with a black mac & a wool pashmina. I was very glad of the layers ;) Hope everything goes off OK.

Am off to bed with my book, as DH disturbed me last night coughing and I've been awake since 4am!

Thanks Floss, think I will have a good look through tomorrow to see what layers I can find!
Hope you have a better nights sleep x
  • Hello everyone and nice to have you with us Karcher.

So sorry to hear about how cold it is and all the coughs and colds that go with it. We've had the second screaming hot weekend in a row, and after working all last weekend and most of this weekend, yesterday (we had another long weekend) I went on strike at lunchtime and sat in the garden with my book for the rest of the afternoon. So strange as much of my work is reading and I read for relaxation but I find the two totally different. 30 degrees in the garden and then I went on a bike ride - next time I must take the suncream off my forehead before I go cycling as it ran into my eyes and I had to stop before I crashed.

Some babysitting and catching up with cousins at the weekend so that was nice too, and a couple of other spots of cycing. Overcast today but hot and humid - the sort of hot and humid where you can't sleep at night. Just had to prop myslef up with caffeine which is most annoying as I totally weaned myself off it before Christmas.

DH announced we 'had' to buy a new line trimmer yesterday, most annoying as I didn't want to spend the money but as he does the lawn I can't really say make do without one. The old one is kaput but wasn't very expensive if I remember correctly. This one was $149, so more than I'd have liked to pay but less than most of the others on offer. So that was a trip to the garden centre but we bought that and only that, very restrained. I need a new filter for my kitchen hood but the ones they had for sale were all the modern type that fit in the ducting. Not only is mine disgusting, it's been in place since before we bought the house (over 4 years ago) but I can't find one to fit.

Not much news from us really - work, work and more work, but with the odd bit of fun fitted in. Fingers crossed it will all be worthwhile in the end!

    much love

Hoglet what is a line trimmer? Is it what we would call a strimmer? Scrap that. I googled :)

So cold here today again. I'm sat changing all my addresses. It makes such a difference to feeling cold when sitting still. I'm being bombarded with emails from mam's house auction team. both sides have instructed solicitors... it's on :D

The damp work is booked in for next Monday so it's all systems go. I've had the mortgage bloke on to sort the life insurance connected to the mortgage. My pneumonia has had an expensive effect. Not happy but there we are.

Eldest's bus pass is on the way to being changed for school and the bus company got in touch with me about my query for a yearly public transport pass. I thought it would be a local one at the cost of £510 but our house is just out of area so I need a county wide one costing £920. No chance! We'll walk and bus it in extreme weathers or extreme health problems.

Wanders off wondering about what 30 degrees feels like. hoglet what is the coldest it gets in your winter?
  • Brrr- seems everyone is cold! We have heating but for how long I don't know. Hubby got it working after 5 engineers visits where they couldn't work out the problem. Hubby has no idea what he did though, thinks it was air in the system. I'm now doing battle with the oil company who provided the engineers who have sent a bill for 5 calls outs, a replacement pump (they have admitted the old one wasn't faulty at all ) and 27 hours labour - grand total of £1925 plus vat and they didn't resolve the problem. :mad:Needless to say we won't be paying it and I'll be seeing them in court if we can't agree on a nominal sum

Busy at work here so haven't had time to do much. I did buy some drawer storage things from T K Maxx at the weekend and tidied 3 kitchen drawers afterwards. I'll have to tackle the cupboards soon. I'm quite a stickler for tidy and organised but I have two much loathed cupboards which are a bit out of control at the moment.

They had masses of Le Crueset in grey, red and pale blue however I resisted as I I have lots of the pale blue and really don't need any more. I was very tempted though my the baby pink heart shaped dish with lid but I walked away. No more stuff, I must keep reminding myself.:o the milk jugs were pretty though...........

Not long to go now Fuddle - I bet the anticipation is growing.

Karcher welcome to the thread, nice to have new friends.

Lainey - hope all goes as well as can be expected tomorrow

Off to catch my train now, will try to pop in later in the week.

Hi Fuddle - all systems go indeed. Good luck for everything coming up.

    Yes it's a strimmer, it's also called a whipper snipper. :-D

The winters get to around freezing overnight and maybe 10-12 degrees during the day, although much colder down south. Houses over a couple of years old don't really have any heating, unless they've got a wood burner or something installed, which we don't, so we certainly feel the cold in winter.

It finally rained a touch overnight, although it was so hot and humid is was actually nice when the dripping wet cat came to snuggle up on the bed with us. I do like hot weather but I find humidity hardwork.
