Mum was head strong about getting out of bed wasn't she Lainey. I hope Mum relaxes and buzzes and that you can be at ease knowing things are in place to get Mum some support when she feels she would like to stretch her legs. Hang in there pettle.
DH read the house report today and found that the roof and loft insulation were renewed in 2011. It's a relief that it's not a pressing matter and quite OK for now. The insulation is at 250mm how is that in relation to norms or minimum levels does any one know?0 -
fuddle current recommended level according to google is 250mm to 270mm of insulation so yours is ok."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0

Lyn - that chicken dish sounds amazing. I may well try it when we get home. I will be working through the freezer as normal at this time of year. We tend to eat lots of fish when we are here on the coast so by the time we get home I'm happy to eat chicken, pork and meat for a while. I will pick up some tins of condensed soup (onion, cheese and celery varieties) which I can't get back home and I use in quite a few recipes. Sad, I know, bringing home soup but I have some well tried and tested recipes which require them.
Lainey - your mum is one determined lady. I can certainly see where you take it from
Good news on the insulation front Fuddle. One less thing to worry about.
We're meeting friends for a brunch buffet tomorrow with gospel music. It looks like real Deep South cooking and apparently the music is amazing so should be fun and something different. Time hubby and I experienced something new - we are in real danger of becoming very old farts set in our ways:o0 -
Late to the party as usual but just read about the news of another grandson Lynn and wanted to wish you and Ruthie all the best xx
Thinking of you also Lainey and hope your mum is resting comfortably xx0 -
Here we are on a cold and foggy day on the 8th January and as I came back to the kitchen door after putting the peelings in the compost bin I heard loud buzzing and thought quick close up it's a queen wasp but no.....out of one flower on a hyacinth in bloom in a patio tub came a pollen covered very large BUMBLEBEE!!! who'd have thought it???0

Morning all, morning Lyn, I think the seasons seem to be all over the place.
It is dank and murky here this morning, but not cold, but the weather girl has said later in the week will be really cold, which f course is how it should be.
Our colds are still lingering, and of course we have the usual sound effects from HimselfI have told him he doesn't make these when he is asleep, so they are obviously for affect. He is usually as good as gold with his serious problem, but with a cold he has always been the same.
Lainey I hope your Mum is comfortable, and that you have managed to spend some time with Capt S
Fuddle that is so good that the roof and insulation are in good order. I think this little house knows you will love it.
Later this morning we are off to have a browse around Dunelm, I think DGD is coming with us, we won't go until about 11, and I must get some meat out of the freezer for dinner this evening. I have some beef in gravy left over from Christmas so we might just have that with veg and creamed potatoes.
Enjoy the rest of your day
Much love

Sorry Candlelight but I had to giggle at Himself and his sound affects
enjoy your browse round the shops.
Gosh Lyn, a bumblebee, he should be all tucked up cosy underground now, what weird weather we have nowadays and how it affects our wildlife.
We are off to the hospice in a minute, just waiting for Capt S to finish an urgent email to one of his clients panicking over their y/e accounts. Mum was very agitated yesterday when DB went in, she couldn't remember anything of her brothers visit and seemed depressed, I did pop in for a quick visit last night but she was very dozy and not sure she really registered that I was there
Spoke to my brother afterwards and we have decided to make all future visits close family only, we are not convinced that Mum would want her friends to see her like this now?
Anyways, good news on the report and insulation Fuddle, one less expense to find :T
Hope you enjoyed your brunch SM and the music was as good as expected.
Thinking of AOT and Hoglet, hope you are both well?
Better get going, love to all x0 -
LAINEY when my dear old dad was towards the end of his life my brother and I drove up to Lincolnshire from mid Kent to visit him and he was asleep when we got to the ward so we sat and waited for him to wake up and he just grabbed us by the hand and said 'My Darlings, my darlings' and knew us and was happy for us being there, half an hour later my brother had gone for a walk after dad fell asleep again and I was on my own when he woke and he looked at me fiercely and said' Who on earth are you?' hadn't a clue who I was or why I was sitting by his bed. It's part of the illness and decline that is taking place and not something that can be altered my friend. At least mum is safer and more comfortable than she was outside the Hospice and for that we'll all be grateful. Hugs love, Lyn xxx.0

I was only 10 when it took my dad but as he was home I remember some things. Only the family and friends who were helping with dad's care were at the house towards the end of it all. From remembering the feeling and atmosphere from back then I don't think it was right for Dad's work mates or friends from his football team come visit (he was in his 30's) then. Maybe it's different for different age groups. I don't know.
Whatever feels right will be right Lainey. You know your Mum and your Mum was part of developing your instinct.
I have had a productive day in the kitchen - irish stew for dinner, broth for lunches over the next few days and SC rice pudding with stewed apple and raisins. My washing and ironing is complete and put away. I have sorted my under sink cupboard readying it for emptying into a box for the move and have completed another row of patchwork for my quilt.
I start back at the charity shop tomorrow. Didn't those 3 months fly by? If I'm honest I don't want to go back yet. I want to hide away from the world, the questions, the prying and the 'why have you been away for so long' but I know if I don't go back I will lose my little bit of socialising and feeling useful. I expect I will be fine.0 -
Of course you will pet, FUDDLES can do ANYTHING!!! xxx0
