Oh you lovely and understanding lot, its a tough time for sure but like you say I am surrounded by love and support so will get through these dark days. Thank the stars especially for my lovely man, what would I be without him.
As a family we have been talking through old times a lot, looking through photo albums and re-living happy memories, will continue to do that as I know it brings darling Mum a lot of comfort x

Lainey love, it doesn't matter how old you are or how much preparation you have, the grief hits you just the same. You are particularly vulnerable as you have also lost your beloved Bill.
Please feel the love and care we all have for you. Nothing we can say will make things better but we are there with you every step of the way.

  • Popped into the city this morning on the great Jumper Hunt thinking there would be some in the sales.....what sales? There were a few racks of grim discards from over the years in Debenhams, nothing at all in M&S and the prices for the grim offerings in the John Lewis sale were about twice as much as I'd consider paying full price for something I liked!!! I ended up with one navy blue ribbed jumper from Debenhams from the Maine collection and gave up and came home. Mind I found a lovely 'ITSU' cookery book, all meals under 300 calories in a charity shop so it was worth going. Just back from walking Cookie and about to pour us cuppas!

Not long back in from seeing Mum and now cosied up on the sofa with cup of coffee and some fruit loaf, shouldn't really be eating anything as my lovely man is taking me out for a meal tonight but hey, guess I'm back to comfort eating!
DM was much the same, asleep for most of the time and then more or less on the hour she sits up and insists on having a few steps around the room on her frame, it's almost as if there is an internal alarm that goes off, most strange. She is being given further medication for her restlessness, as the Doctor put it yesterday, it's a sign of things "changing". Before I left I made her promise not to get up by herself which she did and I also stopped at the nurses station on the way out to make them aware, DB should be there by now as well.
Am resisting the temptation to snuggle down and have forty winks as I don't want to jeopardise the chance of a better nights sleep and read somewhere than napping after 3pm disrupts some sort of sleeping rhythms apparently so instead will crack on with my latest book. You'd love it Polly as its the Boss' autobiography and was my pressie from the boys, it's very well written and you can hear his voice when reading it iykwim.
Now all the decs are put away it seems a bit bare around the house so have placed loads of candles everywhere including another present, a lovely WW hearth candle, which my DSIL gave me, I only burnt it for an hour last night as want it to last but it made the whole house smell beautiful and the lounge was still scented this morning.
Right, now for Brucie baby, love to all x
  • We have the most beautiful clear sky just packed full with stars to enchant us tonight, pulling the bedroom curtains a minute ago I looked up and was just staggered at how lovely it looks, mind you its minus something out there so I'll admire it from inside. Perfect end to a sparkling if little arctic day of cerulean blue skies and winter sunshine.....Isn't nature amazing?

I'm hoping it isn't too frosty here today, I want to go and check the allotment. Mind you, DH is away tonight until Sunday afternoon, so I can go over on Sunday morning and listen to the Archers omnibus while cleaning out the greenhouse!

Other plans include changing the bed, a CS run, nail appointment and some paperwork to sort. Also need to sort insurance for a trip next weekend and print off confirmations etc, and book my car in for a service & MOT.

Hope everyone has as productive day as they wish, except for Lainey who is only allowed to visit her mum and relax with Capt Scarlet!

That dreaded black ice here this morning.

I'm being productive in that I'm trying not to fall off the healthy eating wagon. No butter on my toast with poached egg this morning but I'm at a loss what to do for my lunch now. Hairy Bikers diet chilli in the SC for tea and tatties washed to bake later.

I'm also at a bit of a loss with what to do as my housework is up to date and I don't want to start packing anything else as it's the end of the week. I think I shall do some quilting to the radio. I don't know what to listen to though. I don't really have a niche. Does anyone listen to anything interesting on the wireless during the day?

I've been buying Tesco packs of 6 fresh chicken thighs, a pack of their low calorie Cumberland sausages and a pack of cooking bacon but make sure it's rashers not chunks. Take the skin off two of the sausages and cut each one into 3 pieces, make them into a sausage shape to fit the chicken thigh and put inside then wrap each stuffed thigh in a rasher of bacon and dry roast in the oven (180/200 deg fan) for 50 minutes to an hour depending on thickness of the finished stuffed thigh. I leave them to get cold and have one of them with a bowl of home done vegetable based soup which I start by softening the veg if it needs it using a 1 cal oil spray and then adding stock and herbs to suit the flavour. Blitz it with a stick blender and that's lunches for both of us. If we're still needing to fill a corner after that a nice apple/banana or a 99cal Muller Light(currently a pack of 6 assorted for £2 in Tesco/Iceland) Yoghurt goes down a treat. I cook the rest of the pack of sausages in the oven at the same time as the chicken and He Who Knows has them as snackage if he runs out of oomph in the day. Chicken £3.50, sausages £1.50 and bacon 60p plus whatever you use as veg and ingredients for the soup and I reckon that's 6 lunches each for well under £8 each week, not bad eh? He Who Knows has toast with his soup!

That chicken sounds delicious Lyn, may well purloin that for myself as trying to do low carb again, that said failed massively last night as I was so tired when got in from seeing DM that I just shoved a frozen pizza in the oven and had that with salad & olives.
Poor Mum had a little tumble yesterday morning and has quite a cut on her head :( after she tried to visit the loo by herself despite promising her daughter she would buzz for assistance! So now the sides of her bed are up and there is a pressure pad that sounds an alarm at the nurses station should she stand on it, she's not exactly happy about these new arrangements but DB and I did try to explain that it would lessen our worry somewhat so hopefully that will make it more acceptable.
There are a number of visitors heading over today so I will either have a day to myself or just pop over later this evening to say night, it's an hours drive so will see how the day goes, am aware that I can go whenever I want but other people are restricted by work etc.
The house could certainly do with a bit of attention but what I want more than anything is a nice long walk to blow away the cobwebs so may take little Tilly up on the Heath the afternoon, big girl has a maximum of 20 minutes these days so will leave her snoozing on her bed.
Hope you and Himself feel better soon Candlelight, love to all x
