I wonder why such perceptive animals feel so comfy in your home Lyn ;) When I met you your aura said wonderful things, just as your writing does here. :)

Floss my quilt colours are dark blue, light blue, red, pink, sage and cream and a mixture of spots, stripes, hearts and florals. I spent till 2.30am reading quilting blogs. Already I'm looking forward to bed time!

Mrs LW I didn't realise you were an informal doggy day-care couple! Sounds like the ideal solution for you - all the fun without the heartache.

You only say that because I played the little old lady and walked back from the front of the food queue to get you a cake.....that's called gamesmanship my petal not an aura (which always makes me think of a tiny bright coloured parrot for some reason) did I have one on my shoulder?

Hi FLOSS, we've been walking Cookie since a couple of months after we lost Docky which absolutely saved our sanity in every possible way and gave us back our daily routine. I've known Maisie Doggie since she was a tiny pup but didn't know her mum terribly well, only to say hello to and talk to the pup. She saw me out with Cooks one day and assumed we'd got another dog and when I explained to her that we only walked her she asked if we'd consider being Maisies occasional carer (mum teaches and sometimes has full days out) for the odd day but explained that Maisie was very cautious with people she didn't know. One day I was waiting at the bus stop when Maisie and mum walked past so I said Hello Maisie and she came straight up to me wagging and put her little nose into my hand and when I bent down to stroke her (which she let me do) she gave me a doggy kiss. Never happened before with anyone so mum came to see us and we're gradually introducing Maisie to home here and being with us without her owner. We're having her from lunchtime until mid evening on 12th which will be the longest period yet and I suspect will be quite hard for her but she'll be fine and in the fullness of time being here will be part of doggy normal for her, she's a lovely little thing and we're enjoying having her around, aren't we lucky? xxx.

Ha, did chuckle at the image of Lyn doing her little old lady act to get where she wanted in the cake queue :)
Back at home now after visiting DM for a few hours, she seems a tad brighter today so hopefully the higher level of pain relief is doing the trick. My uncle and his wife called in so was lovely to catch up with them, DB took the opportunity to take SIL out for lunch as it's their wedding anniversary today so that was nice. I did manage to drop into town on the way and quickly run a couple of errands, it was rammed and the parking prayer didn't work this time so walked in down the hill, am aware that not getting much in the way of exercise at the moment so was good to stretch my legs.
Not much else to report, the washing machine is on as have some catching up to do from the last few days, it will have to go in the airers in our dressing room this late in the day but the DLB was bulging so no choice really. As for supper have no idea, am thinking something veggie and believe that there is some of my favourite bean burgers in the freezer so will take a dive in and see.
Right, Rosie has roused herself off her bed and is now looking at me pleadingly, it's a good 30 minutes at least until their tea time but she obviously feels like trying it on today, mind hard to resist those brown eyes and that's just Captain S :rotfl:
Have a lovely evening my friends x

While little auld quiet me was mortified at such behaviour :D but devoured said cake all the same.

Lainey tell me more about Rosie? :D have you an animal friend?

I have been in bed since 6pm and should be sleeping as shattered but happy in my relaxing world of blog reading.

Today is the first day in a long while where I didn't have any paperwork to do so indulged in more quilt making. Row 2 is attached and everything pretty much marries up. I am quiet proud of myself. DH approves as he was under the impression that my 'traditional' style meant 60s style like he remembers his grandma's house to be. A few florals in an otherwise cream and wood bedroom has come as a nice surprise. :D;)

Tea was chicken in a mushroom sauce, green beans and basmati rice. It was a welcome change.

Ah Fuds, Rosie is a chocolate Labrador, being 13 years old she is very much the grand old dame of our house, we have been together since she was eight weeks old and I love the very bones of her. When Captain S and I first got together it was her opinion / reaction that I watched for the most and he admitted afterwards that it was nerve wracking, goodness knows what I had said to the poor man. They are now the best of friends.
Then there is Tilly, a five year old spaniel, again chocolate coloured ( catching a theme here ;) ) and my little shadow, whilst my big old girl is more than happy to snooze the day away on her bed, Tilly follows me wherever I go, even waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs whenever I go up. She is a typical spaniel, more than a little bit ditsy but oh so adorable and my pride & joy.
Having never been blessed with children they are very much my fur-babies and along with my dear old Bill have always given me such complete love just couldn't have wished for better companions in my life's journey :)
  • Oh my goodness.....I'm wearing some size 16 clothes that Nell saved for me and they're comfortable and I'm not bulging either. I never thought I'd be able to wear 16s again, I'm so pleased and more determined than ever to get down to a 14. Ambition is to be able to walk into M&S and buy a 14 off the peg and not have to try it on because I know it will fit. This summer I'm going to be able to wear dresses and Bermuda shorts again and NOT have sore knees from playing with my Zebra child.

He Who Knows is happily bottling his cider in the barn, I've been right through the house top to bottom, the ironing is done and put away and all I have to do is go up and dig a celeriac and make soup for a few days lunches. Cookie walk this afternoon and tea in front of the stove total contentment, who needs to be rich to have the BEST life can offer? not us is it my lovelies xxx.

Oh chocolate Labradors are my very favourite... well Labradors in general really. DH's mam had one when we got together as a couple. My love for dogs stemmed from that dog and his eyes!

Well done Lyn. There's no feeling like fitting into smaller clothes. I don't know why that feeling doesn't override the sweet tooth! :shhh:

We've had the surveyors report back. The house is solid stone and built in 1850. It's stood the test of time then. :) There's an issue with damp at a joining internal wall but nothing on external walls. The mortgage company are happy to lend as the offer is what it should be in terms of what the house is worth and we're going to seek to get that looked at and fixed.

I think I have just compiled the last lot of letters in terms of wrapping up mam's estate but I fully expect to have to communicate more on a singular basis. The house is now on the market, the estate agents are targeting their investor clients and if nothing comes of that we will auction in the new year.

Step by step we're getting there.

I have been able to find a cream floral pillow case in my charity shop for 30p so that will add to my quilt collection. I sewed row 3 this morning - slightly wonky in one place but I'm still proud.
  • Good evening all,

It has been a balmy day after the murk cleared this morning, We did the usual Friday shop first thing and bought a lovely piece of silverside which I have put in the freezer for Christmas.

We have two DGDs here again who have just enjoyed a chicken casserole with new potatoes, green beans and carrots. It is good for younger DGD to come round once a week and see her sister.

Lyn, you are doing so well, doesn't it feel good to wear clothes smaller than you are used to? (thank you for the lovely Christmas card)

Fuddle it seems like all systems go with the new house. You will have such fun deciding what goes where, knowing this is your forever home (for the time being anyway). It will be yours and that is the main thing.

Lainey I hope you have managed to have another nice day and hope Mum was OK when you saw her later.

It is good that your DB and yourself are now sharing her care, and that you both can spend time with her. Later you will know that you all have done everything you could to give her the love and care she so deserves. and hopefully there will be no regrets or guilt. Your Mum is a lady after my own heart because I have already sorted my jewellery for the DGDs and of course my DDs, and how lovely she has put a little card with the history of the piece, I must think about that.

Polly how are you and your DD? I hope not too many medical appointments coming up before Christmas. I am not sure how you manage with every day events when you have so much to cope with, you must be one strong lady.

SM, how are you, is the weather quite mild for you at the moment. Sister has sold her house in Florida and is due to be completed in a few days.

Floss it sounds as though you are in demand, job wise. I really hope you find the one just right for you.

Hoglet, I hope you are OK. That upcoming bicycle ride sounds like torture to me :) You must have built up a great deal of fitness and stamina to be able to contemplate that. Good luck with it.

We are hoping to see my DS and BIL tomorrow. He has been very ill, with not many good days, and we won't go when it is a bad day, so hopefully we will manage to see them both, but she knows to text me if he is not well.

Have a good weekend all, if you are able.

Much love and candles still burning, lavender at the moment again

    Candlelightx
  • Morning all, sat here looking at the lights in the apple tree and the star on the window sill thinking how pretty they look. I am so very grateful for all of you being the lovely and kindly considerate people that you are on this thread, we're all aware of the 'name' on the page being a REAL person who can be hurt or helped by the things we write down and we each think carefully before we DO write to make sure that what we say is phrased in such a way as to NOT cause upset. Back in the summer a couple of posters passed comment on one of my posts and hurt me to the core, the post was deleted and I've had no contact with either of them since then which makes me sad but I have no wish to lay myself open to hurt again so that's how it is. Today someone passed a less than kind comment on a recipe I'd put on for someone else and I'm sure that it was not intended to ruffle but is phrased in such a way as to make me think 'How rude!'. Thank you all my friends for being just that and keeping this thread calm, kind and welcoming, bless you all Lyn xxx.
