I would agree with this decision! If you need some extra heat while you decide B&Q sell a small convector heater for £20 which heats up a room really quickly.

You could decorate the fireplace area with candles and greenery/flowers meantime.

Oh pillar candles of varying heights. Thank you :D;)

Floss it's a yard out back. Really quite small but bricked up and private. There's already a shed in place (godsend!) but with 3 bins it's getting tight. I would like to container garden produce if the East/West sun allows and would like a patio table, plus I have my BBQ. That's on of his reasoning - my leisure time in the yard would suffer because the space needed by the wood store would mean something has to give. There is a small front garden but it's not secure.

Off to go google pictures of fire places with candles in 'em :) that's put a smile back on my face.

Can you put your bins in the front to give you private space? Ours are in our east facing front yard, gives us space for sitting out on summer evenings :)

  • Quick one from me . Been a long , long day .
Fuds If you do as Floss suggests with the bins in the front your husband could knock up bin stores from wood or pallets . Which reminds me do you still have the arbour he made ?
If you haven't already thought of it vertical gardening would be a good plan for many of your edibles . A lot on the threads do it including me . Lots of ideas if you google , Elaine (memory girl ) has it on her old blog .
I hope all are well . See you all tomorrow .

Fuds I have found through experience that once a seed has been planted and left unmentioned, DH often comes around to my way of thinking as if it was his idea ;)

    This, a million times over!
  • That is so true :)

Definitely ideas to work with when the time comes. Thank you. :)

Yeah we still have the arbour DH made. We brought it up from Dorset and will be taking it up the hill.

I am keen on learning vertical gardening. I have my rasps and strawbs potted for moving and will be looking at how I can use the front garden too. I've lots to occupy my little mind (which is how I like it :D ) so letting the stove go for now. It can't be a reality until Mam's house is sold anyway.

Yes DD will still be able to get a school bus to secondary school and youngest will be able to go to her primary school. It's a 30 min walk and hilly all the way back but as far as 8 year olds are concerned I reckon that's what scooters are for ;) when lidl is built (we have a roof!) I will have my trolley in tow and still able to volunteer at my shop when I go back in January. There is a local school over the road. DD wants me to apply but she has agreed that I won't fight for a place. That's what she calls an appeal. Just over 2 years left so it won't be forever.

And speaking of which, I have the meeting there today to find out the results of her assessment. Here's hoping because school have yet to cotton to the fact that when DD is happily getting all of her work ticked and showing g good understanding, she soon forgets. They firmly believe that she is fully capable of great things (and she is in her own way) but they rote teach for SATs in year 6 and having gone through it with a very capable girl who has no difficulties I am scared for youngest.

Time to get up, get the kettle on and start another day. Catch you later :)

    Hello all,

Some great ideas for the yard and fireplace FUDS, you will be surprised how much you can grow in a limited space, my first home was a flat with a balcony but managed a decent amount of salad leaves, toms and herbs as I recall.
Yesterday wasn't such a good day, Mum was very tired and could not manage much food at all. The results of the CT scan were, as expected, not good, the cancer is now in most parts of her upper body, the GP has offered to refer her to the gastric department at Addenbrookes to see if fitting a stent would be viable, Mum has agreed. I did speak to my brother and we agreed that there was nothing to be gained from her knowing how much the disease has spread, her will to live is the only thing that is keeping her going and we don't wish to impact on that. i did speak to the hospice nurse and she is going to up her daily morphine to help with pain etc.
It's tough, but we are where we are and find small pleasures where we can find them, she did enjoy seeing her brother yesterday and there was much reminiscing over their childhood.
Right, time to take her a cuppa, let's see what today brings. I am going over to see my other SIL and two nieces this evening, maybe out for a meal, it will be good to catch up :)

Much love to you all, stay warm xx

I'm a bit cross I'm afraid. The whole focus of the meeting was to show me that my child is exceptionally bright in all tests. I never doubted that. She has been identified as having visual stress and needs purple overlays, screens and writing paper. She does have difficulty with the physical act of writing but that has been rectified with the Yoro pen that she was given after the last meeting. DD appears to have confidence issues and insinuated I was unhappy with her progress because she isn't identified as 'gifted able and talented' like her older sister. I had to work very hard in keeping my cool, calmly trying to explain that DD's confidence issues were down to her falling foul of a reward and consequence system for 'not trying hard enough' when she has visual difficulties reading and physical difficulties writing.

I don't feel vindicated at all because of their bottom covering delivery but it isn't about me. If DD 'who is an exceptionally bright and keen child' ends up in detention or not gaining reward time for 'not trying hard enough' again I will take it further.

They said she showed no signs of having memory difficulties and that I was probably being manipulated as children can be lazy. I didn't respond at all. I know DD has memory difficulties and it is getting worse as she has to have more responsibility. I will be taking her to the GP tomorrow to try to access further screening just to rule out anything else.

I'm cross with the delivery yes, but DD has had identified her issues and with that has to come an understanding so job done but I am back on the ceiling with frustration. It looks different to being up there with excitement!
  • Good for you Fuds for managing a calm and measured response . I have much empathy with you . I learned many years ago to let the blame angle go in one ear and out of the other . You are well aware you are the expert when it comes to your child and will get the required results in a calm , reasonable and informed manner .
Get down from the ceiling love and do something nicer than give them headspace . All will be well .
I forgot to mention last night that depending on the boundary walls or fences height in the rear yard you can make log storage in a small footprint .
Well back to ironing - such joy !
    Later polly x
