  • Hello everyone

Hugs to Polly and Lainey xxx
Nice to see you here Fuddle, lots of positivity here. :-)
Candlelight I'm glad Flora is coming round, I know most cats sulk but ours don't. They're always so glad to see us they follow us around the house. Izzy even lets me cuddle him when we come home from holiday and he purrs so loudly - it's nice to be missed.

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments about Izzy - so far so good and he is definitely full of beans. Yes I got out on my bike after work on Monday and This morning I rode half the way to work and then got the train the rest of the way. It's 20 miles to work and I cycled 11 of them, will do the same home too. I've put on far too much weight lately so bike will have to be the default setting for the time being, also will save me about half my usual cost of getting to work. I have cycled all the way in before but the roads are not much fun the rest of the way in. It was pitch dark when I left home and I couldn't get my pedal in the right place to clip in, will have to work out a better way of sorting that than taking my headlight off to see what my foot was doing!

    Off to do some work.

    much love

  • Morning all, what a hot and uncomfortable night here last night, I tossed and turned, took the covers off, pulled the covers on, tossed and turned etc. the weather forecast this morning is predicting us to be 5C tonight, I'm hoping for more sleep if that's the case. I really would welcome some cooler more autumnal weather. Think we're off to a newly opened branch of Matalan this morning to get He Who Knows some more pyjamas, his are all looking sadly past their best and I'm also going to pop into Asda which is close by to see if they have a tiny wizards hat for Ezra as Ruthie will be getting some goodies in for the children in the area they've moved to, lots of youngsters and Ezra's of an age to want to join in (not trick or treating) the general Halloween fun. We took them a nice pumpkin from the allotment for a Punkie Lantern so that will make him laugh too.

Found a lovely big gammon knuckle yesterday at the garden centre butchers for £2.99 I'm going to cook it in the pressure cooker and we'll have some for supper with colcannon and creamy leek sauce, have plenty left over for a pie/quiche and to make some potted ham for sandwiches and the lovely stock will make us lentil soup for a few days too, not bad for £2.99 is it?

I picked masses of ripe tomatoes from the greenhouse yesterday and popped them into the freezer for soup later on in the year, the gardens and plots are looking emptier week by week and He Who Knows (until he was feeling poorly) has been doing the winter dig as he clears land. We have the frame for the new fruit cage up now and have still to put the mesh sides on, the roof stays off in the winter as snow would be heavy enough to collapse it. Things round the village looking like the end of summer/early autumn and we've had some good bonfires lit on the allotment in the evenings too, feels right!!!

Hope you all have a lovely day, Lyn xxx.

Hi LaineyT and Hoglet :) looking forward to getting to know you.

Have a successful shopping trip Lyn. Is HWK continuing to get better?

I walked passed my new Lidl this morning. It's huge! I cannot put into words the excitement I feel about something like that that I can walk to. I'll never be out!

Just back from the school run at this mid morning hour. I was just approaching my front door when my phone did it's ringing thing. Youngest's school - She had forgotten her outdoor kit and could I bring it. Yes no problem but I did want to scream 'it's because she has difficulties connected to dyslexia that effect her memory. As previously mentioned and often she has difficulty with her working memory!' but I didn't. Enough words have been said this week and I'm hoping for progress now so I behaved.

Tea is garlicky chicken and some HM (ahem deep fat fryer) chips for ease. I'm feeling somewhat sickly this morning so going to have a second easy day this week. :o:cool:

Lyn there's nothing quite like snuggling down in bed. I hope you get your wish this evening.

Have a good day all :)
  • Very successful shopping trip FUDS 4 x pairs of shorts pyjamas for He Who Knows from Matalan at £9 a pair. The ones he's currently using came from Matalan some years ago and have worn very well but are going raggedy round the edges now so I'll put them in the rag bag as they are soft t-shirt material and super for polishing cloths. I hadn't used my Matalan card since the shop in Southampton closed some years ago so they updated me there and then, good stuff!

He's better each day but still not right, big debate is whether to go for the flu jab tomorrow or wait for the next open session in a couple of weeks, he's going to ask!!!

We popped in to Asda as that's on the same area as Matalan and I got a witches hat for Ezra for 50p!!! a little one for smaller younglings and then we came back through the villages and stopped off at the chicken farm for some of their hand made chippolatas and they had this seasons local coxs apples so I got some of those too, my favourite.

Back home now and having coffee. Well done on not saying what you wanted to say to the school, you catch more wasps with honey than with vinegar don't you poppet? Lyn xxx.
  • Hello all,

A lovely day here, washing out and having a blow.

We have just had HM vegetable soup and a crusty roll, and Himself will be having a short siesta in a few minutes.

We went to the SM this morning and did a small shop. We also bought him 2 new shirts, warm ones for winter because he feels the cold, and because all his others are enormous around the neck with his weight loss. It sounds as though you did well Lyn with the PJs for HWK.

We have also been for our morning walk. The circulation in his legs has improved since the walking began so we are hopeful. He has bloods to be taken on Monday, routine appointment with GP on Tuesday, and then the following week appointment at the hospital to see if his blood thining drug is OK.

I have been randomly chosen to have a mammogram next Saturday, joy of joys. I did phone and say I hadn't long been discharged after the 5 years, did they still want me and she said yes if you would like to come. Actually I don't mind because at least I have someone checking me as well as myself.

I had my hair cut yesterday and the hairdresser managed to cut all my colour out from the back, I just have some blonde at the front which should be gone with my next appointment in 4 weeks. It looks almost silver now and not bad at all.

DGD and BF are off to Rome tomorrow, I think they will be leaving here about 5am, they are so looking forward to it, and we will miss her. She does keep us posted with photos during the week.

I am not sure what we will do over the weekend, I know Himself will be watching the GP on Sunday that goes without saying really

Lainey I hope Mum is settled in at your DBs and you spend some quality time with her over the weekend. Does she still feel nauseous or has she regained a little appetite now? I always think if you can enjoy just a small amount of food you feel a little better in yourself.

Have a good weekend all, I may be back later.

Hugs to Polly and her DD and of course to Lainey and her Mum

  • I'm back in the country - well back in body even if my mind hasn't made it all the way home with me.:o I went back to work yesterday so a bit snowed under however will be back over the weekend to catch up and post properly.

Hope you are all well in the meantime.
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • What a wild and unpredictable day here today. Stair rod rain and heavy thunder and lightning first thing, we stood waiting outside the surgery for our flu jobs for 40 minutes huddling under umbrellas then it cleared to bright sun interspersed with absolute out of the blue intense downpours and squalls of really high winds and it's actually cold now and the sky is looking black as the ace of spades over the river. I know I said I'd like some rain for the gardens but.....really! whatever happened to moderation in all things???

Have managed to tweak a knee and am hobbling slowly and carefully pottering to do all that needs doing. He Who Knows walked Cookie this afternoon and I'm just waiting for the tea to brew in the pot. Think I'll have to give in and take some pain killers and maybe give it a rest for an hour or so. Daft thing is I don't remember doing anything to cause it!

Have just looked out onto the front garden and these squalls have brought down lots of apples from the tree so I'll hobble out there with the basket and gather them up to use in the week. Hope you are all having a nice Saturday and not getting too wet, Lyn xxx.

    Hello scottishminnie :)

Candlelight I've not had a manmogram yet (at what age are they offered?) but I think I would take the opportunity to have a check up too.

Lyn how did you hurt your knee? :( edit: I just re read to find you don't know was HWK able to have his jab? I've had no problems with mine other than discomfort at the site - felt bruised.

We've been to Lidl and took the opportunity to really stock up on the cupboards. Its a battle I am constantly struggling with so the onky way to get ahead is to save in order to invest. Happy content feelings right now. :)

Also, just quickly. I have a meeting from the cognition and learning team on Mon for my youngest. Hopefully we'll get her difficulties identified and taken seriously from that point.

Well the time has come... I awoke needing my dressing gown in the night so the winter duvets are bed bound in the next hour.
  • Fuddle, I think the official age when women are invited for a mammogram is 50, and then every 3 years, but you can always request one, your GP will refer you.

When I was 65 I had a routine mammogram and they discovered I had a tumour, no one could feel it, it was only because of the mammogram it was discovered. It isn't a particularly pleasant experience having your boobs squashed but it only lasts a few minutes, and if it saves your life it is well worth it.

  • Lyn, do try and rest the knee for the rest of the day, you might wake up in the morning and find it is OK. Creaky joints :):)
