Ouch Hoglet. I'm a bit of a fan of the cycling tours (watching on TV :o ) so can visualise your fall and your poor wee self afterwards.

I'm a big fan of the cycling tours too, Fuddle, and the crashes can be really spectacular can't they. And often the cyclists hop straight back on the bike and get patched up as they ride along. This morning when I was feeling particularly sorry for myself I remembered Gerraint Thomas (I think it was him) riding the Tour de France with a broken pelvis a few years ago. And here I am moping around with a sore arm and a grazed knee.

It amazes me how they do it, given what they have all experienced at some point and witnessed. We were watching the Olympics live when Annemiek Vleuten came off and I have never felt such pit of stomach worry for a sports incident. How she survived I don't know. Many haven't. The more I watch and learn about the sport the more kudos I give to the guys and girls.

So you gan canny hoglet pet. My own DH smashed his face 3 days before we married and subsequently damaged the muscle in his eye. Aside from being a bit plump it's probably why I watch although I am about get get on a bike very soon as I recover from a summer illness.

Hoglet ride like a girl! ;) *insert graphic of very fit female rider smashing it.

My dear old dad was a keen amateur cyclist so I was brought up on tales of the Tour de F and the exploits of Monsieur Merckx, cyclists being found up trees after coming off the road descending etc. Does make me laugh seeing a overpaid footballer writhing on the floor in agony and comparing it to the hours those guys and girls spend in the saddle, often with injuries. Think the expression is man or woman up!

    Hello,

Oh quite, Fuddle, I watched Vleuten come off and really through she'd be lucky to get away with a serious injury. Do you know, a month later, she won a stage of another race. What a girl! Thank you for your encouragement - and I really hope you enjoy getting on your bike soon. I started last Christmas on an old, beaten up moutnian bike, just to do a bit more excercise. Within 3 weeks I was totally hooked and had bought a secondhand road bike. I'm a long way from being fit but I have improved, I think!

Exactly, Lainey, it's not a sport for those who can't stand a little bit of pain! I'm a big rugby fan too, so I do like my sports rough and tough, can't abide soccer at all.

Knee is healing at least, shoulder is still very sore, it might have to go to the docs, if only to stop everyone around me telling me to go to the docs! But really, all it needs is some rest I think. I've created a lovely workwear ensemble this morning. Office-dress top, with running shorts and trainers, to give the knee as much airing time as possible. I'll change into my work trousers later on but wanted to let it dry out as much as possible.

We're going away at the end of the month and I found a bike hire place that hired road bikes. I asked for a quote - $50 a DAY! :-O Seeing as I paid $300 for my bike, I'm not renting one for $250 for our trip. I only wanted to cycle around the island first thing in the morning every day for some excercise and to see the place.

Well, that certainly is enough whinging from me. I hope everyone else is OK.

    much love,
    Hoglet x
  • Evening all, just been out to the pub for supper and very nice it was too gammon, egg, chips and peas yum! Successful trip to Southampton today, Ikea mission successfully accomplished and back home by 1 o clock. Lovely Cookie walk this time with a friend I've known for years who has an amazing Labradoodle called Rupert who is literally donkey sized. He's so full of ping that she tends to walk alone rather than with other dogs BUT today Rupert met Cookie for the first time, she licked his nose and we walked, very civilised behaviour from both canine partners for the whole walk, amazing!

HOGLET I feel for you with all the aches and bruises, arnica is wonderful stuff for healing bruised muscles and bones if you have a natural/health foods shop accessible, some pharmacies have it here. Look after your little self and get your poor bike checked over too, just in case anything has become loose through impact. Poor lamb, be better, Lyn xxx.

That sounds like a wonderful day MLW. Such great news about Rupert and Cookie.

Ah yes thank you, excellent advice, I must search out some arnica. :-)

Ditto Lyn, except we didn't have gammon and peas. By gum sometimes egg and chips is underated.

It will be 2 years since we met in Southampton Ikea Lyn. Where has that time gone  I can't actually believe we've been back up north for just shy of a year. Strange how things work out but I think I've found the town I call home. :)

Hoglet I've just realised that you're in New Zealand so probably don't know what 'gan canny' means :o it's 'go carefully' in my mother tongue.

DH whipped his facebook under my face this evening showing me what one of his work mates had made out of rope and cable barrels - a garden coffee table. It's whet his appetite again so he plans to look over the pallets in the hope of making a dining table. Currently the armless armchair (sofa we demolised to make into a comfy chair for our bedroom) is waiting for pay day so I can buy a staple gun and some wadding.

The malted milky drink hasn't fixed my iffy tummy so I'm hoping my bed will. G'night all :)
  • Well my little northern pal, I'm so very glad that we DID get to meet each other, as you said on the day we didn't have to catch up or fill in the gaps because we 'knew' each other so well from chatting here. You're a part of the family now as much as my two other girls, and my 4th daughter who is my next door neighbour Steph who always calls me Mummy Lyn, it's so nice having all of you in my life, makes me very happy. Hope your tum settles down and you have a decent nights sleep, hot water bottle to cuddle might make you a bit more comfy. Look after your little self, Lyn xxx.

Hope your tum feels better soon, Fuddle. Yes, I'm in NZ but but I'm a Brit export - been here 5 years. :-) In fact tomorrow is exactly 5 years since we got on the first plane (we spent a week getting here as we stopped off with friends along the way). Lovely to hear you and MLW have met up - I've been lucky enough to meet some of my online book club pals and it really was as if we'd been friends forever.
