    Hi everyone,

Fuddle - gumbo is a southern USA dish, often quite spicy, meat and/or fish and veg in a thick sauce. Handy for using up sad veg and it freezes really well.

This morning I got all my cycling gear on, got outside with my bike and the rain had just started. Figured I'd just ride up to the next station but by the time I got there the rain had stopped and I had a lovely ride in to the halfway train station. Got off at the second to last stop, therefore I had only travelled in 1 zone and so it cost $1.80 not $3.10 for 2 zones, and cycled the last 4 miles to work. Bike needs a jolly good clean now!

And now work - and toast and marmite!

    much love,
    Hoglet x
  • Hoglett, toast and marmite, nothing better to start the day off, I love it. Well done on the cycling, you will have to ask DH to help you clean the bike at the weekend :)

Lainey, Mum's days sound lovely seeing people she loves and on the whole doing what she feels she wants to.. I understand she becomes tired, but she sounds a very strong lady and is determined now to make the most of every moment.

It has been a lovely day, bed stripped and linen washed, remade the bed whilst the linen was drying. Himself went off for his usual blood tests this morning and we are with the GP tomorrow for the results.

We are still enjoying our walks of between 30 and 40 minutes. He has almost lost the last bit of fluid in his legs, so clearly it is working.

Sleep tight all, except Hoglet, have a good day

    Much love

  • Morning playmates, He Who Knows seems to be back to his normal busy little self, he's walked Cookie and gone to the allotment to harvest the butternut squashes now and seems to have got his 'ping' back, woohoo!

Have just had a phone call from Nell who has been having foot problems for some 6 months now, first diagnosed as tendonitis and is much improved but still ongoing so she went to see the school doctor a few weeks ago and had some blood tests done. Results this morning when she saw him? she's been referred to the rheumatology unit at the hospital as blood markers are higher than they should be. There is a history of arthritis/rheumatics in He Who Knows side of the family and Ruthie has Psoriatic Arthritis for which she will be medicated for the rest of her life so this comes as no shock. Nell is if anything relieved to have a name to put to the whole thing of having a constantly sore foot. It will mean though that she'll possibly have to rein in her D of E involvement and Expeditions, we'll have to wait and see.

Another nice day here today, cooler than of late and breezy too. We are awaiting a couple of deliveries today so one of us will have to be here all day but as usual I have many little odds to do in the house so a day like this is all to the good.

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Drat Lyn, it's not a nice diagnosis to get but it's early and as far as I know, and you'll know better, the earlier the treatment the better. Auto immune diseases are rife in my family too (rheumatoid, thyroid, psoriasis and vitiligo) so I'm just kind of waiting myself. I just hope it doesn't prevent N from doing what she loves.

A big cheer for HWK :D Lyn do tell... is he a good patient?
  • NOPE......but I'm a worse one!!!

I'd like to see ANYTHING stopping Nell doing what she loves, she'll just have to learn to do it more slowly!

    Hi everyone,

Feeling a bit battered today - managed to fall off my bike on my way home last night. Annoying thing is I wasn't even on the road and it was entrely my fault. Have removed most of the skin from my left knee, grazed the inside of my left arm and bashed up my shoulder. Just feeling sorry for myself - I rode home, with plently of blood pouring down my leg, so I don't think there's any real damage, I'm just sore and bruised today.

Made it into work but I'm going to have to nip to the chemists for some more dressings for my knee.

  • Oh Hoglet poor you, your knee sounds nasty. I think you have every right to feel sorry for yourself. Yes, make sure yu ask the pharmacist for some appropriate dressings for your knee at least. You are going to feel a bit stiff in the shoulder as well as being sore.

Perhaps you should give the bike a miss for a couple of days whilst you heal, and take things steady.

Much love and a gentle hug

Ouch Hoglet, your poor thing :( like Candlelight says make sure you get some dressing for your knee and perhaps a good long soak in the bath tonight to ease any aches. Hugs xx
  • Lyn I am sorry to hear of the possible diagnosis for Nell. Perhaps rheumatology will be able to confirm or otherwise.

I can't imagine she will change her lifestyle much unless she has to. I think, otherwise, she must be very fit so hopefully that will be in her favour.

Thank you Candlelight and Lainey. I've just bought the new dressings, they had to find something in the post-operative section to get one big enough! The lady used to be a cyclist so at least she understood the problem!

Yes, no bike for a few days.
