Not yet Lyn tbh, the plan is to get Mum into the respite hospice for a couple of weeks or however long it takes to get all the care in place. With the latest development of these black-out episodes it means that she will need more or less 24hour care in her home. She really doesn't like the thought of this but appreciates that without the worry for her family would be immense.
Problem is the bungalow is really small but we could turn her dining room into a bedroom/sitting room for her carer and give them both a reasonable amount of privacy? It's all worry of course.

Still, am trying my best to stay positive and find pleasure, however small, in every day. Today it will be because eldest SS is coming over to show us the pictures of his recent US trip so looking forward to that. Will do some baking this morning as, like his brother, he is hollow legged and loves home cooking :)
Am also continuing with my winter prepping, tinned and packet goods are stock piled, coats, scarves and gloves are all being washed, as are blankets etc. Next thing is to get an oil delivery but am waiting for last pay packet before that. Then it will be check torches etc are in working order, candle supplies and lastly get an emergency bag ready for the car. I do love this time of year and the feeling of hunkering down ready for whatever the winter throws at us, last year it wasn't much but who knows.
Enjoy your time away with your girlies Lyn, plenty of cuddles with Zebra child as well.
The Candlelights certainly seem to have picked a good week weather wise here in the east, would have been lovely at the coast yesterday.
Polly, hope you and yours are ok, am enjoying reading along with your thread and as always am amazed at the stoicism of OStylers.
Hope Izzy is continuing to improve Hoglet and isn't being too naughty for her Mum!
Another one who can't wait to hear more about SM travels

    Have a good day everyone,

  • Hi LAINEY, at least Mum is moving from the hospital wards which must, even if they are necessary and the care superb, be not the best place to be day in day out. I can only say that Ruthie says the Hospice where she did her 6 month placement was and is still the very best place she's ever been privileged to work in. They just could DO the job that medics need to do for their patients with no restriction and no limits, the CARE was there 100% and she said it was the happiest and most joyous atmosphere she's ever known. Yes, there is sadness when a patient who has become almost a friend ends lifes journey but to know they'd had the very best care and were comfortable, relaxed and content made the loosing of them as bearable for both staff and relatives as it can be. Mum might just be in for a very pleasant time, wait and see, it will I feel be much more user friendly for visitors and Mum will be properly looked after. Hugs and more hugs, Lyn xxx.
  • Good afternoon all, we have had a wonderful week. Himself has been really well and I feel rested. We walked round the gardens at Sandringham and he wasn't in any difficulty at all.

The cottage we had was beautiful. The owners had taken such care in choosing the furnishings and everything you could wish for was there.

We had some nice meals out and went to some of our favourite places, a good time was had by all.

Now, what have you all been up to. I have only just had a glimpse and I see Lainey, Mum isn't sorted yet, I hope that is resolved soon. You must be living on your nerves at the moment

Lyn, how are you, I hope all the family are well, and I expect you are well into your winter preps now?

Polly how are you and your dd, is there any change or are things much the same.

SM your holiday sounds amazing, are you home now.?

Hoglet how are you and the cats, especially Izzy? Has he recovered from his op? Evidently Flora kept herself very much to herself whilst we were away. DGD says she slept behind our bedroom door most nights but did wander in to see her now and again. We gave her lots of cuddles when we arrived home. Poor little thing she looked absolutely lost, and she has spent a couple of hours asleep on one of the dining chairs, she doesn't normally do that. She has placed herself by my feet now, I expect things will be back to normal in a day or so.

I have done 2 loads of washing since we came home, but no ironing yet, but there won't be a great deal anyway once I have sorted underwear and socks.

Take care all and will probably be back tomorrow.
    Much love

  • Good to see the holiday was a success Candlelight . It was well worth the wait . DD is not at all well and most of the past week has been trying to prevent admission for rehydration - thank goodness for os homemade ! Doctor added another med on Friday but we need to get hold of Rheumo asap . Phones were ringing out on Friday and her nurses phone was also not answered - it's usually on the message service but was on normal . Will hit the phone in the morning but expect we'll need to go to see the rheumatology team . How she'll manage the long journey remains to be seen - she's been clutching a sick bowl for over a week .
I phoned re the form and we have an extension on the return date . I wish she'd let me finish it as her appointee but she's adamant she will do it herself .
Sending something being sorted vibes to Lainey and mum x
Warm wishes to all . I will be back soon hopefully .

  • Polly I am so sorry your DD is so poorly. What you wouldn't do to take the pain away from her?

When our DD had a partial knee replacement, and then had to have a steel plate put in her thigh she was in excrutiating pain, and I would have done anything to take the pain away.

I hope someone answers your call tomorrow, poor girl I expect all she wants is a "normal" life relatively pain free.

Many hugs to you both and much love

  • Hi everyone,

Candlelight - I'm so pleased you've had a wonderful holiday. I was so hoping that would be the case.

Polly - I'm so sorry to hear that, you and your DD are in my thoughts.

Not too much to report form us. Izzy has been really good, it looks like the wound has healed well and the stitches are due to come out on Tuesday. I'm going to try and get the vet to take back the collar which DH let them sell him, as Iz hasn't needed it at all. And not only would I like the money back, it's another item of clutter I don't want hanging around the place. Still waiting to hear from the pet insurance people.

We had a very quiet weekend - the rain has been constant and is forecast for the next week also. Another week of no bike riding! Our clocks went forward at the weekend so it would be so nice to get out in the lighter evenings. I did some kettlebells and body weight work on Saturday and every muscle in my body is still singing! Good to know I gave myself a good work out tho.

Yesterday I had my craft club - where I'm sorry to report my craft was sewing up the massive hole in our duvet cover. It's my favourite one and I really didn't want to buy another. I also ate far too much - we always say it should be called food club not craft club at all.

Other than that, not much to report. Ooooh although, complete pain in the bum colleague at work has resigned - such a good feeling!

    Much love to you all,

    Hoglet xx
  • Afternoon all, just back and with a poorly He Who Knows who has a Urinary tract infection poor lad and is feeling MOST unhappy and uncomfortable. Thank the lord for the amazing out Day Centre in the city where Nell lives who saw him early this morning and gave strong antibiotics. He's very tired from being up and down in the night and driving back here so I've sent him off for a rest. The antibiotics are good, I've had them once for the same thing and they worked really fast so I'm hopeful that he'll feel himself again soon.

Lovely day on Friday with Zebra, nice weekend with Nell even though we lost the rugby and He Who Knows was poorly at the country show yesterday, it's still nice to be there with her and she and I blitzed the pruning in her garden in the afternoon yesterday and the shrubs and roses are now looking much better.

Nice to be home with our things, washing is on and I'm going to raid the freezer for some supper and then have a quiet afternoon and an early night, Lyn xxx.
  • Lyn I am sorry He Who Knows isn't well. UTIs are so painful and make you feel really miserable don't they. Once the antibs kick in hopefully he will start to feel more like himself.

I am pleased you enjoyed your few days away, just a pity it ended like this, it will be nice to sleep in your own bed tonight. Best wishes to HWK

    Much love

  • Thank you Candlelight, I will however in the interests of both of us NOT be sleeping in my own bed but in the spare room as the poor boy is still up and down like a yo-yo and he sometimes can't get back off to sleep again and he'll be able to read if that's the case so much easier if I'm not there! He's had a nice sleep since lunchtime and is now on the sofa reading his newspaper but still feeling a bit poorly, so I'm in the study giving him some peace and quiet and hopefully tomorrow will see him feel considerably better. Zebra was on really good form on Friday, oh the giggling (both of us!) and the running in the garden (both of us there too!) and I was naughty and bought him a choc chip cookie from the bakery which he declined to share with Opa, we did confess to Mum but she said it was OK!!! RESULT!!! xxx.
