Evening all(or I guess morning all for most of you!).
Didn't have a chance to post before I headed off as things were so busy however we made it safely across the pond and are currently in Jackson, Wyoming with plans to head into Grand Teton National Park tomorrow. Our big plan was to spend a couple of days in Yellowstone from our current location however some raging wildfires have closed the South entrance at the moment so fingers crossed it calms down enough for the road to reopen on Thursday so we can see a bit of the park - Old Faithful at least, I've wanted to see it for years.
It's a bit of a road trip so who knows where I will be later in the week!
Floss, glad the wedding went well.
Lainey, look after yourself. It's natures way of telling you to slow down I think.
MrsLW- glad you had fun with Ezra
Candlelight - have a wonderful holiday if I'm not back to the thread before you go.
Hoglet- hope Izzys recovery continues.
Pollyanna - that's quite an achievement. Your daughter should be suitably proud of herself.
AOT - hope you are well.
Off to tackle my USA Today crossword (one of my daily habits when I'm here) then an early night. We've been in bed by 9.30 every night since we arrived. In our defence hubby is up by 6am each morning and ive already been for a run by that time so I don't feel so bad about the early nights. It's all about the daytime for us though, so much to see and do so the earlier we are up the better a chance there is of seeing some wildlife.0 -
Morning all from the sunny Lancashire coast
DH and I are gradually making sense of the detritus from the wedding - he has rinsed out all his wine bottles, divvied up the excess truffles & ducks for the neighbours and is making steady inroads into our lumps of cake
I on the other hand have begun taming the allotment, picking 1kg of rasps a day & 3.5kg of rhubarb for jam & chutney, along with the oversize courgettes.
I've also sorted my work wardrobe & washed some of my things in anticipation of starting a new job in a couple of weeks...much as I loved my last job, it didn't really like me and following a difficult 18 months for DH of a job change, stroke (his 89 yo dad) and the deaths of both his parents, we have both got to the point of crashing. A 50 mile/ day motorway commute and long hours in a very stressed office does not make for a happy Floss, so after almost 3 months off sick I'll be travelling 7 miles through lanes to work for a local charity2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Hoglet, poor Izzy he must be feeling sorry for himself, I hope it is just a cyst. Hopefully by today he will be more with it and eating well.
Floss that is a lot of travelling, I think you have done the right thing. Why are jobs so stressful these days? By the time I retired each of us who were left were doing the work of 2 people, the others were never replaced. Now that might be a bit easier for a younger person, but as we become older we begin to think is it really worth it? My answer was NO.
Lyn was it good to sleep in your own bed last night. Any signs that Docky had missed you both? Is there much left in the garden and allotment for you to harvest now, did it run riot whilst you were away?
It is very warm here today. Himself has gone to have the car cleaned and fill up with petrol. We wemt to the SM to stock up with frozen food for DDG, she will want something quick when she comes home from work next week. I have just put the washing out, although not much I am trying to keep up with it before we go away and whilst it is good drying weather.
SM your holiday sounds wonderful, thank you for your good wishes, is it the season for wild fires at the moment?
Lainey I am sorry Mum was a bit subdued yesterday, I think her spirit will pick up when she is able to go home. I hope you manage to sort something soon
No more news I think, so have a good day all
Much love

Hello to all,
Another sticky, hot day here.
Tilly visited the vets this morning and apart form being a trifle overweight, 16kg for spaniel, she is in very good health. Need to think about having her spayed as, much as I would love it, don't think she will have pups now. She is 5 now so should be done for health reasons but will put off until after her next season so looking at the new year.
Back home and pottered around the garden, picking more apples and generally tidying up, but the heat has driven me in now, fan is on and we are all enjoying the cooler temp in the lounge. Don't think I will be moving until much later when will pop over to see Bill, SIL is with Mum this afternoon + more of her friends and then brother will go this evening so am having the day off.
Feel drained TBH but guilty as well given what she is going through. I texted her this morning, she had a bad night pain wise and was given some Morphine.
Have to say am going through the "it's not fair" stage, she is such a sweetheart in all ways but guess that is the randomness of the universe
Sorry, don't mean to bring the thread down.
So glad you enjoyed your break Lyn and had such special time with Ruth, Zebra et al.
Hoglet, am thinking of Izzy and hoping all is ok.
Candlelight, not long until your Norfolk holiday, not sure which way you will be coming but if you pass anywhere near Newmarket do wave out the window
SM, your road trip sounds fabulous, fingers crossed you get to see Old Faithfull
Floss, your reasoning behind work/life balance rings so true, events make you realise that money means nothing compared to peace of mind, the new job sounds perfick
Much love to all,
Lainey x0 -
Oh yes, cool, quiet, calm and comfortable, I'd forgotten the village in Germany was the turning point for any aircraft going in to Frankfurt to land so they were descending, braking and winding the engines down too directly above us for most of the day and they have cargo planes going off and coming in for most of the night too. The village here is so much quieter and even waking in the night I got back off to sleep again, bliss!
The hound had behaved himself while we were away, I think he's been down with Ruthie while all the worry over the hatchling was with us, he'll be back in his own time though.
The garden was thirsty, the bushes and the fig tree were looking quite sorry for themselves so they all had a big drink in the evening, He Who Knows has been to the allotment this morning and come back with sweetcorn, raspberries and inevitably courgettes but the plots are cleared as the crops finish and then dug over so we're up to date on most things and have overstanding things in both the garden and allotment. The celeriac are looking really good and will give us tasty soups and casseroles through the winter. Picked lots of tomatoes and blackberries yesterday and picked up windfall cookers from the front garden tree so will stew them this evening when it cools down.
I've just been and harvested (with my lovely neighbours permission) a big bunch of hydrangea heads that are de-leaved and hanging up to dry upside down in the summer house, I've got a huge earthenware jug that I like to have dry flowers in for the winter and they will look splendid in there, I'll just dust them with a tiny bit of silver colour, probably cake dust (the decorating stuff) to give them a lift. Cheers up a winter room!
Hope you are all coping with the trials and tribulations of life and that my Dockling is doing his round of visits to give each one of you a loving and restorative lick no matter how far away you are! Love Lyn xxx.0 -
Lainey love the way you feel at present is very natural and in no way shameful . At such a time thoughts swing back and forth and ups and downs happen . You have done all you can and there are feelings and event beyond your control and you can't fix everything no matter how much you wish you could . Rest in the cool room and I hope you feel feel a little better soon .
Back later
Much love polly xIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Well better late than never ! After my short earlier post the day descended into chaos including a lot of time trying to get sense out of two customer service people in two different countries to no avail .
Lainey I'm fairly new on this thread but I'm sure the others will agree there is no such thing as " Bringing the thread down " heck we've probably all poured our hearts out - but such is life and when it comes to offloading this is a lovely safe and caring place to do so x
SM What a wonderful adventure . I watched the Yellowstone series on tv and loved it so much I bought the dvd . The winter section is my favourite , make the most of every moment of your travels . Thank you for your kind comment I think my daughter is only now realising she did do three countries , three tallest mountains in 23 hrs . She's sent me some lovely pics to my emails so I plan to get them printed properly so she can have a framed reminder to go with her medal - the best one is on top of Ben Nevis with frozen eyebrows
Lyn I think Docky may have popped in to see me , after all I do speak Docky and have had the honour of him talking to Anti Polly .
Amazing how fast the garden dries out this time of year but after all the processing finishes things will slow down and you can relax , light the stove and dream of the fun coming your way in the new year .
Floss Back to normal now , had I known I could have helped use up the remaining cake . Wishing you all the luck in the world with the new job sounds a much better proposition . Candlelight not long now ! I have visions of Himself asking how many sleeps !
Hope all is well with izzys results at the end of the week Hoglet ,take care x
Well I actually need to eat - very late but that's the way the day went .
Night all ( good morning Hoglet )

Morning everyone, the lurcha communicated via me so you can see he's been doing the rounds, bless him, you may not actually see him but rest assured that when times are trying and you are stressed, angry, sad, cross with the world there really is a small black whiskery person sitting leaning against your knee and loving you because he cares. He's a GUD BUOY!!!
Hot here again last night but we got to sleep most of it, I was awake between 3 and 4 as it was sticky but drifted again until 6.30 so not feeling too flat. I'm off to town this morning on the bus as I need a few bits and pieces and I'm going to look at Robert Dyas to see if they have a separate liquidizer with a good fast motor, my food processor doesn't do a good job with purees or soups, it's super for most other things but not so good for hummus etc. I'll have a think if they don't and see if I can pick up a Kenwood one, they used to have toughened glass goblets and were superb but I don't know if they still do.
We went down to the allotment last night and actually harvested our two biggest pumpkins as they are completely ripe and sound hollow when you knock them. There's been so much theft this summer we thought we might lose them and I grow them mostly for Halloween so now they're safely here and should last through until I need to carve them. Two more smaller ones will be harvested in a couple of weeks to take down for that Zebra who will be old enough to understand whats going on this year even if he's too little to join in.
LAINEY I'm so pleased you no longer have to endure the workplace situation, so totally unacceptable in 2016 and totally unprofessional to treat a member of staff that way and to allow the supervisor to do so unchallenged is utterly negligent management, you're way better off out of it love, congratulations. Hang on in with mum, we're here always and your MacMillan team are there for you as well as mum, they are wonderful compassionate and caring people who can help in an emotional way as well as practical, you'll get through this even though the prospect is utterly daunting, you're strong enough lovey and we'll all help! Love and hugs Lyn xxx.0 -
MrsLW we have a Sainsbobs glass blender, It's really good and the blade unscrews for cleaning.
Off to finish jamming with rhubarb and then raspberries, thought I might do rasp & rosewater jam for a change - anyone tried it?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
