    Afternoon my friends,

It's a beautiful day here in East Anglia, sunny and warm after a whole day of rain yesterday. Am sitting on the sofa that faces the field watching a solitary partridge running across it, looking panicky and obviously looking for his pals :)
We have had a quiet day at home, caught up with the week's events at Ambridge this morning, then did some batch cooking for the week, two meatloafs, one of which we had for lunch, a fish pie for the freezer and a strawberry & plum crumble to use up the last of the rather sharp fruit.

Think the events of the past few weeks caught up with me yesterday somewhat, felt shivery and achey as if had the flu, kept sneezing etc. Didn't dare go into the hospital like that so missed seeing my Mum and had a day at home by myself. Captain Scarlet was driving his youngest up to the North East and Uni so it was just me and the girls for most of the day. Mostly slept, watched tv and read, woke this morning feeling much better so guess must have just been run down?

Mum was moved wards yesterday and is now in a main bay rather than a side room, this means the nurses are much stricter on visiting hours and numbers :( My DB and family are visiting this afternoon, we will go this evening instead.
She is struggling to cope with the Stoma, they removed the bridge on Friday afternoon so am hoping things have calmed down a bit by now, have learnt she will never tell me anything negative by text so are anxious to see her face to face to find out how she is doing.

Am just living day to day, that's all we can do, normally would have started my winter prepping by now but just can't seem to get it together to think what we need, perhaps will try to get a list together at least.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their weekend, especially our Lyn in Germany.

    Take care, much love
    Lainey xx
  • Morning everyone,

Lainey I hope you're well enough to visit your mum soon. Thinking of you. And thank you to you, Candlelight and Pollyanna for your kind wishes.

This weeked was so beautiful, spring definitely springing. We still had lots of wind on Saturay (a freezing southerly no less) but the sky has been clear since Friday.

Candlelight - good to hear about Wasps. We (Counties) had a heartbreaking defeat on Friday night - gave away a penalty after the hooter had gone and ended up losing by a point when we'd been leading all match. Grrrr.

Saturday DH and I had a nice day together - a nice lunch out, bought some loose fancy tea and a shirt for him. Sunday I went to see my cousin and took some things for us to have for lunch. The baby is 6 weeks old already and growing rapidly.

The cats are well - we've had a nightmare with Izzy lately who has become obsessed with scratching the shower door, and if we close the door to the bathroom he scratches that instead. On Saturday night I covered the bathroom door in tinfoil and we've had 2 successful nights, no scratching, no getting up in the night to feed him to try and distract him. Has worked a charm. He's also managed to get something like an abscess on his paw - vets tonight.

Better dash - love to you all,
    Hoglet xxx

Sound like a nice weekend Hoglet . Inspired thinking on the tinfoil :) I hope izzys paw is not too much of a problem , cats really do keep us on our toes - no pun intended !
I hope Floss had a lovely day yesterday although she is no doubt exhausted by the huge amount of work she put in - sweet dreams Floss Safe journey to SM and have a lovely break at last .
Dear Candlelight not long to go now . I imagine you are more than ready the break . Looks as though ther is some good weather ahead so hopefully you'll get your share .
Only a few more days and dear Lyn will be back with us hopefully back to her usual self and well rested and ready to tell us of her adventures .
I have had middle daughter on the phone finally back from the challenge . Have had no contact since Friday evening so I felt I was walking every mile with her :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: She's full of tales and had a hard but good experience and I am proud to say she did it in 23 hours all 4ft 11 ins of her .
    Love to you all

Hi folks, thank you for all your good wishes for the wedding on Saturday, everything went wonderfully well, the dessert cakes were all eaten, tissue flowers were used as buttonholes & hair adornments all night, the bride looked beautiful and I am now exhausted!

  • Good afternoon all,

Well it was supposed to be sunny here today. but I haven't seen it. The washing has dried so it is warm but no sun.

Lainey I am pleased you managed to see Mum. I think you are right you must be a bit run down, no surprise there. I can't imagine how awful it must be to have a stoma, but marvellous they can achieve this with keyhole surgery, and that she is in less pain. I think once she can go home she will be more comfortable, and I am sure the stoma nurses will call in.

I had a Macmillan nurse, Julie, and she was lovely. After I had finished radiotherapy I was badly burned. I did go to the GP but unfortunately they had limited knowledge on how to deal with it, so I phoned Julie. She said come up to the hospital now, when we arrived she also had a doctor waiting who wanted to admit me. I managed to avoid that with DD saying she would change my dressings at the weekend and the Dressings Nurse agreeing to do it during the week, although I had been discharged from radiotherapy. I know they will be a comfort to your Mum if she is worried about anything in particular.

Hoglet, those claws are a menace aren't they. If you remember Flora likes carpet, but I always make sure all the doors are ajar so that she isn't tempted. I am sorry Izzy has some sort of infection in his paw, I hope the vet isn't too expensive.

Floss so pleased the wedding went well, and in particular the cakes.

Polly congratulations on your new thread, you have had over 500 viewings. I think it very appropriate because you only have to read MSE to see how many people struggle with ill health and particularly pain. I know with DD (she has arthritis in both knees, and a metal plate in one thigh) the pain can be overpowering at times. She is such a good girl though, I say girl but she is 48 on Friday. She never moans to us, she lives on her own so I am sure she must have low times but she never says anything. We are taking her out for a carvery on Friday and we have lots of pressies and money for her.

I hope both our holiday girls are enjoying themselves and we will be off on Saturday. Himself is well and so looking forward to our break and we are meeting up with friends, which we try to do once a year. There will be much laughter and hopefully lots of nice meals, so must be careful with the weight.

I am off out for a meal tomorrow evening. It is my regular meet up with the "girls" I worked with, so catching up with all their news, should be an enjoyable evening.

AOT hope you are OK, have you had a look at Polly's thread?

Well I think that is all my ramblings for the day, take care everyone and stay safe

    Much love

  • Hello everyone, we got back about an hour ago after spending the night with Ruthie and giving her the biggest hug in the world. Ezra was in fine form this morning and when he woke up Ruthie went in to him and I popped a head half way round the door at which he shouted Oma and came running down his bed with his little arms wide, doesn't get any better than that!

Germany was as beautiful as I remembered, the grape harvest this year looks phenomenal but we're glad to be back in the UK as the temperature while we were there was mid 30s and the humidity very high by day and night so we spent a great deal of time in the hotel room having frequent cool showers as it was just TOO hot to be outside, it wasn't air conditioned either so we suffered and didn't sleep much. We got the hire car back early yesterday and spent some hours in the air conditioning comfort of the airport and had a beautiful flight back to the UK, flying into the sunset arriving back at about a quarter to 9 in the evening. We did manage to go out in the evenings and found the friendliest Italian restaurant with such a nice guy running it who had a little English and welcomed us like long lost friends every time we went there, so lovely.

Nice now though to be back home with our own things and looking forward to a decent nights sleep in a cooler room and then life as normal, vastly underrated is life as normal!

LAINEY I hope you managed to get in to see mum and that she's a bit more comfy today too.

CANDLELIGHT lovely to heat that MrC is doing so well and that the legs are healed, when is your holiday, I'll bet you're both looking forward to it immensely.

    Look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.

  • Lyn, lovely to see you back, and isn't that Zebra Boy just something special, he makes you feel good doesn't he. I am glad you were able to give Ruthie her long awaited cuddle, bless you all.

I have been out with the "girls" I worked with and had a lovely meal, I had strips of fillet steak in a garlic, mushroom and pepper sauce with real mashed potato and a garnish of rocket, and it was absolutely delicious. I don't normally have a dessert but I did tonight. New York cheesecake with berry compote, lovely.

We are off on our holibobs on Saturday Lyn, and Himself has had his bag packed for 2 weeks :):), he is really looking forward to it. I did all his medication today, he has 14 tablets a day, aand also taking manuka honey and dressings in case anything untoward happens and he bumps his leg. I hope I am prepared for all eventualities.

We have spent several months looking toward this goal and we are almost there, it hasn't been easy as you all know but I am so proud of him.

Lainey I hope you found Mum comfortable this evening, I hope it isn't too warm on the ward, it is very close here.

    Sleep tight everyone

    Much love

  • Hi everyone,

Quick update on the cat. Took Izzy to the vet on Monday night and he thought it was likely to be a tumour. Iz stayed at the vet overnight and had it removed yesterday morning. The good news is that the vet found it was a cyst when he removed it, but it still has to go to the lab because it could be cancerous, although that's rare. We got him home last night and he was feeling very sorry for himself, totally spaced out and nibbling at a bit of food. 3am this morning he decided he was feeling a bit better and demanded some food, which of course I gave him. His pupils are still massively dilated so hoping he comes down from the drugs soon. He's got 3 stitches in his paw and, so far, is being good about not licking them. We have a cone of shame but will only put it on if needed. We should have the results back from the lab at the end of the week.

Glad you're home safe MLW! And your dinner sounds wonderful, Candlelight.

    much love
    Hoglet xx
