Lovely to see you back MrsLW xx
  • You sound to have had a lovely day Lyn, and the weather has been glorious.

Himself did the front garden today, he was out for about 4 hours, and I just laboured and strimmed the lawn. He was tired this afternoon but OK. The heart failure nurses have said unfortunately fatigue is part of the condition, and that he could work really well one day and be wiped out the next. He is fine this evening, although he has some nasty scratches on his arms that bled profusely because of the blood thinner.

Enjoy the rest of your time with Nell

    Hello again everyone :)

Productivity didn't really happen yesterday. The elderly chap I visit was feeling better, his appetite has returned and he wanted a cooked lunch, which is brilliant, but did take a while! then on my walk him I bumped into an old friend and her dog and we chatted in the sreet for quite a while!!

Best laid plans and all that!

Son had a brilliant day helping out at my sisters build. There were tractor mini digger and a mini dumper and he had a go on all of them!

Right time to have another attempt at 'productivity'

Hope you all have lovely Sundays.

  • Hello again, just having a nice cuppa after housework and a wander into the town to get some bits for Nell. The washing is flapping on the line, the house is dusted, tidy and vacuumed the fuchsia bush that was blocking the entire path has been given a thorough haircut, we got her and have built a sturdy vegetable wrack and I have been in the veg patch and dug the first of her potatoes the yield of which came to a kilo and a half of nice sized spuds, yummy! Chicken for supper was popped into the slow cooker early this morning and is smelling delicious so just veg to steam and an easy evening perhaps watching some Olympic coverage, can only be good!

I'm home tomorrow, she's OK with the foot and has an acupuncture appointment booked for Thursday with a local alternative therapy clinic and needs to crack on with planning the second year of an A level and the lesson plans for the newly introduced I GCSE so mum would be a distraction. Looking forwards to a few lovely days with Cookie before she goes home on Saturday, will be nice to have a pup in the house again. Talk to you tomorrow when I'm back home Lyn xxx.

    Hello everyone,

Hurrah MLW is back! You've been missed so much, it's lovely to have you back with us. Love hearing about your produce and freezing/dehydrating. I'm afraid it's a cup of English Breakfast to toast your return here, too early for anything else, tho I do love a darjeeling of an afternoon. I drink alcohol but I don't drink coffee - does that make me strange? Coffee doesn't make me feel good at all. Hope Nell's foot is better soon.

Lainey - sorry to hear about your Mum and work. Lots of hugs for you.

We had a lovely weekend, the last with the girls here. We went for along drive on Saturday to a cheese shop, which was mostly closed when we got there. I was really annoyed because normally there's heaps of produce, tasters and a window where you can watch the cheese being made. Nada. Just a few forlorn packets of camembert...

Soooo off we went to our next stop, a rural town which the girls wanted to visit. And what did we find there? An AMAZING cheese shop! We left with armfuls of the stuff (I am not supposed to eat much cheese but it is my biggest weakness. Oh and crisps too...) and it was reasonably priced too. They also have another shop much closer to where we live. We had a poke about the town and we really liked it, to the extent that we had a little look in the estate agents' windows. My goodness, prices were so reasonable there. It's been added to the list of potential options for the future.

DH took the girls to the zoo yesterday and I went to help my cousin's son plant radishes for his school Ag day. This year he is raising a goat, which arrived on Friday. It's a dear little thing but it was limping yesterday. He's taking it to the vet today.

Once the girls go I'm starting a body weight training plan which needs some space in the garage. I got 2 x shelving units yesterday for not too much and had one of them made up before DH got home with the girls. I've put all the gardening stuff on it and cable tied some big tubes onto it to hold garden and cleaning tools. It's created quite a lot more space now, and once the recycling bin has been emptied this week I've got more stuff to chuck in there which will make lots more space. DH is a bit of a hoarder - the garage is FULL of empty boxes. Yesterday it was a case of 'what's in this bag - oh an empty shoe box, again.' They're going in the bin. Once I've moved some stuff around in there I'll make up the other shelves. Love sorting the garage out, it's something I really enjoy doing and find really satisfying.

Right, must get onto some work,

    lots of love

  • Back home and Cookie is a little dear, loves being with us both and loves being in the garden when we're working and boy have I worked since I got back at 2 today. 9 trays of assorted runner and French beans in the dehydrator, seven and a half litres of apple juice pressed after I'd scratted the apple mountain, 5 lbs of blackberries picked and delivered to my friend Carol down the road for her freezer, umpteen courgettes waiting in the kitchen including a couple of 'clonkers' that I'm going to turn into 'courgetti' spaghetti with my spiralizer for my sister in law who is diabetic and can't do pasta and a pan full of the runner beans that have to be stringed (the other wigwam are stringless) waiting to be cooked for supper. Tomorrow I will pick the tomatoes in the greenhouse and the rest of the redcurrants from the middle row of bushes, luckily Carol has room for them in her freezer so they won't be wasted. Raspberries are starting to ripen in fair quantities on the allotment too but Ruthie wants to make some jam so they're earmarked for her.

Nells foot seems to be getting better, it's definitely less swollen than it has been so I didn't feel I had to stay to keep an eye on her (I know, once a Mum etc) and it will be lovely to sleep in 'our' bed tonight. He Who Knows has done washing while I was away so I have some ironing to do tomorrow as well and a tidy and clean right through the house and a sweep of the patio as we had the builders in to take the tiles off the extension roof and give us a good top up of insulation and a new membrane, apparently they don't use felt any more, so we'll be snug and watertight this winter but they've inevitably left 'bits' and it needs a good sweep. Other than that it should be an easy day!!! Lyn xxx.
  • Hi Lyn,

It's good to see you back safe and sound, Nell will miss you but I know she has work to do for school. You sound to be extremely busy with produce, you will have masses to last you through the winter.

Himself did another 3 hours in the garden this morning taking down a creeper that had grown all over the fence and repairing the fence where necessary. He has done so well over the last 2 or 3 days, I think even he is pleased, although he won't admit it :):)

We are having lunch with our younger granddaughter on Wednesday because it will be her 17th birthday shortly. She works in town so we will choose somewhere close to where she works because she has an hours lunch. We give her money but I have bought her a pair studs with giraffes on because she has always loved them.

No medical appointments this week thank goodness, makes a change

AOT how are you, have you been o holiday yet?

Polly where are you? You must be really busy at the moment, I think most of us are during the summer months, we have more time to post during the winter.

Hoglet good to see you, I am glad the girls enjoyed themselves and I suppose they might be planning their next trip :):), something to look forward to for all of you.

Lainey I have been thinking of you and your Mum today, I suppose you won't have any results for a couple of days.

Take care all and stay safe

    Much love

    Hello all,

Beautiful evening here, that lovely mellow light you start to get later in the summer? Looks like we will have a beautiful sunset as well, one of the perks of living in the flat fens :)

Very tired today so am planning an early night with my book, work was bearable and I left bang on 2pm, almost running down the stairs!

Had a chat with Mum, her appointment went relatively ok, only problem was the lady couldn't find a vein to inject the dye in so after several painful tries she went in through Mum's hand, her arms are covered in bruises tonight :( She was told that the results will come through in a couple of days.
I popped over to see Bill this afternoon, sorted out his bites and gave him a good groom, the warmer weather is certainly helping his movement generally and we might even have a little walk down the lane, in-hand of course.

Candlelight, it certainly sounds like Himself has been very busy in the garden and should be pleased, it's lovely getting our homes all sorted isnt it? Hope you enjoy the birthday lunch on Wednesday.

Hoglet, love the sound of the garage sorting and the weight training :) I have much the same obsession with our shed, tidying that is :rotfl:

Cheel, did you get everything done today that you wanted to?

Lyn, glad to hear that you are home safe and enjoying your Cookie company, boy the crop is really coming through and you are certainly a busy bee.

Time for this tired lady to get in the bath, take care all.

    Much love

Morning, another beautiful blue sky and sunshine day here, house clean and tidy, dehydrator emptied and beans in jars, washing in machine and I'm about to go off to do the ironing. He Who Knows has headed allotmentwards to dig up a root of our maincrop Desiree potatoes to see how they are and there is a man on the extension roof fixing a few new tiles where some had corners off and then cementing (or whatever they use for the job) round the edges to seal it all. Cookie has taken herself to bed for a sleep after her early morning walk and I have made courgetti on the spiralizer and chopped all the veg to make Bolognese sauce when the mince defrosts.

Part of today will be picking the tomatoes in the greenhouse and taking some down to Carol and roasting some for puree and just popping some into the freezer for winter use. I daresay there will be apple processing in there somewhere too. I love productive days makes me happy!
  • Well, mid way through the week already and my good intentions of posting seem to have "gone to hell in a handcart" to use a phrase heard often in my office!

So I just popped in to say hope you are all well and maybe the weekend will give me a bit more time to post.
