Lainey, you are right about no needing the stress of work - when my mum had her last diagnosis I quit my job, and when my dad had his I was on notice of redundancy & my boss told me to "pop into the office once a week or so". You will need all your emotional & physical resources right now.

MrsLW, I remember doing something similar for my boys when potty training - isn't it funny how the male mind works!

Oh yes Floss, it is really quite considerable the difference a good versus bad workplace can make to your mental health. When my darling brother entered the last stages of his life I was actually pleased to go into work each morning, only worked until 1pm, as it meant maintaining a level of normality and my then work colleagues were hugely supportive? This one is very different and is merely a way to earn some money, Thank goodness for OS ways and the necessary savings stashed away.

Well done Zebra, surprising what the right pair of pants can do :)

    Hi all,

Yes the right work place certainly can make all the difference. Yesterday my boss was talking about the future and I know that he'll wind up the company one day. But I do actually like my job (most of the time) if not everyone that I work with, and I like working for him. I don't really want to move. Wouldn't happen anytime soon but still, time to redouble the saving efforts just in case.

This last 12 months has seen the demise of the washing machine, the dishwasher, my food processor and now the vacuum clenaer is making a funny noise. Of those, we've only replaced the washing machine as white goods are terribly expensive here. We got the (now-dead) dishwasher from a clearance outlet place which has since closed down, more's the pity, and everything else came over from the UK with us. DH is on board when I've said lets save some money rather than replace these things we can live with out, but annoyingly he does want to replace the dishwasher before I buy a new bike. Not that I'd planned on that, but he wants a dishwasher first. Well, I'll be riding my current bike for a long time yet!

More jumping around the garage doing my body weight excercises last night, my shoulders ache! Izzy was most intrigued and wanted to join in. Little blighter started scratching my yoga mat too. I'll get the kettlebells out tonight, that will really make me ache tomorrow.

Wonderful what the right pair of pants can do! Well done Zebra!

    much love,
    Hoglet x

Hello all quick one from me fibro is giving me a kicking today so typing is painful . Humidity really triggers it so although there doesn't seem cooler weather for the next few days I will be glad when it comes ( apologies to those who relish hot weather )
Hope today has been ok Lainey .
Lyn I hope you sleep better tonight and well done with the magic pants ! perfect time of year to try them out , fewer clothes do help when potty training .
Hoglet I hope your boss keeps the job going until you have a reasonable savings cushion . I empathise with failing machinery I have had a couple of things give up this year although I admit they have given many years of service and some of them will not be replaced as they aren't essential items . Have a good day .
    Take care all

Morning petals, thanks POLLY last night was a much better sleep, woke at 6 and then dozed on to 7.30 so I'm feeling human again today. He Who Knows has Cookie out in the cool of the morning and I'll see how hot it is this afternoon, might defer her second walk until it cools this evening, nicer for both of us.

Nothing much planned for today so I'll tackle the little jobs that need doing and process and dehydrate some big courgettes into long strips for Nell to use as lasagne 'pasta' this winter. Lovely to find a use for the big clonkers that get missed on the plants at last. Then I'm going to enjoy the day as it looks like being the last summer one for a while. I must admit to looking forward to Autumn, I like the misty cool mornings that turn into hot days and love seeing the leaves colour up and the hedgerow fruits turn colour and ripen. Best is that very first frosty start later in the year and the prospect of using the woodstove again and cooking hot winter casseroles. It's been a nice summer period but I'm ready to move on now, Lyn xxx.

Hoorah have just heard that the builder is coming TOMORROW to install the new double glazing units and then life is ours again as far as having to stay in is concerned.
  • Hello all,

Another beautiful day here, warm and sunny. I had my washing out by 7.30 this morning and we went shopping about 8.30.

Himself had his regular appointment with GP for the results of his blood test. There has been no movement, up or down, with his kidney function so the GP is happy just to monitor the situation now with regular blood tests. He did say how well he looked now as opposed to a couple of months ago, and he does. His face has filled out a bit, he has a good colour and he has lost the couple of kilos of fluid he put on a few weeks ago. I think also the fact that he is sleeping so much better has helped.

Hoglet I feel tired just reading your post :):). You have so much energy. I am sorry all the domestic machinery is packing up. Unfortunately it always seems to happen like that. Flora sends lots of puurrrrrrrrrrs to the cats.

Polly I hadn't realised you had fibromyalgia. My Mum had polymyalgia, and she used to call it polywotsit because she could never remember the word. I know she was in a lot of pain, so I imagine your condition is similar. Your poor daughter, has she been ill for a long time? No young person should suffer like that and think that life is passing her by. As we become older we expect things to go wrong with our body, but not when we are young. I am sure you must have exhausted all medicals avenues, is there a small hope that she will improve? Sending you gentle hugs and one especially for DD.

Lyn, your Zebra boy must be wonderful, so pleased with himself now that he has "proper" pants instead of a nappy. I always used to laugh with my 2 girls, because they always looked into the potty when I was praising them, I suppose just to see what they had done.

The produce sounds to be in abundance and keeping you very busy. There is some lovely soft fruit about, I suppose a combination of rain and sun and the runner beans I bought from the farm shop are lovely.

SM, you poor thing, you sound to be so busy. I do look forward to hearing what beautiful desserts you have produced, take a bit of time if you can to smell the flowers.

Lainey I do hope the wedding goes well and that you can all manage to enjoy it. I know there will be an elephant in the room but try not to look at it. The wedding will be full of wonderful memories, not least for the bride and groom, and it is important that your Mum enjoys every moment of it.

As I said in my PM, if you can afford to, tell them to stick their job. Nothing is worth the hassle, particularly when you need to devote your time to Mum and her medical appointments, and to spend time together, you won't regret it. I was going to work until I was just past 60, but Mum was taken ill and I knew she would need looking after if she returned home. She didn't, but I finished work when I was 60 anyway.

Have a good day all and stay safe

    Much love

    Afternoon all,

Warm and sunny here as well, we had lunch out in the garden and have only just come in after reading out there as well. Both the dogs are fast asleep on the floor, darling Mum is nodding over her book, OH is in his study doing whatever he does with the foreign exchanges :)

Picked Mum up this morning, she had walked up to the village salon to have her hair done ready for tomorrow. Her friend offered to drive her up but she wants to do as much as she can, whilst she can, good for her. We had a chat about things in the car and she has decided against having the biopsy after all, it's a reall faff what with coming off Warfarin etc and as she said it was only for final confirmation. Right now she is fed up with hospital appointments and just wants time to take breath for a while, who can blame her.

We are all so looking forward to the wedding and will certainly enjoy ourselves Candlelight, I know that there will be a lot of emotions running over, not least because it should have been my darling eldest brother walking his daughter up the aisle but we are a strong, loving family and we will continue to count our blessings, every minute of the day.

Mum is staying with us right through to Sunday, will take each day as if comes and see what she feels up to doing.

I hope you are feeling a bit better today Polly, am wishing for some cooler weather for you and the comfort that will bring.

Hoglet, isn't it always the way that several things break down at once, if only they would space themselves out a bit, looks like that new bike will have to wait :(

Good news from Hinself's appointment Candlelight, great to hear that the doc has noticed the improvement in his appearance.

The dehydrated courgette slices sound a fab idea Lyn, since doing the BSD have really gone off pasta so like the idea of putting those into a lasagne instead.

SM, hope you are keeping well and busy x

Right off to the yard to see my hairy beast, he's getting fat in his retirement bless him.

    Much love,
    Lainey xx
  • My sister in law loved the courgette slices instead of pasta and also loved the courgette spaghetti I made for her with my spiralizer so much so that I think they are going to invest in a spiralizer for themselves. It's good to find a use for the big courgettes that seem to grow almost to marrow size overnight, I've made a big batch for Nell and also a big bag of dried apple slices for her too, my dehydrator is earning its keep this year. Went into the city with my brother on the bus this morning, nice now he's retired and he was saying that Trish likes broccoli and he would see if he could spiralize the broccoli stalk into pasta for her, good idea. We went to Ikea for some bits for Nell and a mirror for him to replace one that broke and then to the vegan wholefood shop that sells things loose 'scoop style' it's a super place, like Aladdins cave and packed with goodies, I succumbed to a jar of black olive tapenade with figs and mint, mmmmmmmmmmm! Have walked my Cookie and we both got way too hot it was 26 degrees out there and not comfortable. Now cooling down and catching up here. Hope all is well with Monsieur Elliott and those woofler girls and also with their Mumsie, Lyn xxx.
  • Good morning all,

Overcast and somewhat cooler here this morning. No washing to do today, only what we took off last night.

We just have to pop out for Himself's prescription and might pop in to Heron Foods to see if they have any bargains.

Lainey I hope everything went well yesterday and I am sure the bride looked beautiful. Hope Mum wasn't too tired.

It is our younger granddaughter's 17th birthday today. I think she has the day off work and no doubt will be spending it with her boyfriend. She is hoping her Mum will buy her a course of driving lessons, but she knows she will have to pay for the rest out of her salary.

Lyn did you have a good time in Ikea. I know it is a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, and I LOVE IT. I love to see the room settings, and when you reach the Market Hall all the things you didn't know you needed. I think we might be going shortly because I want a rug for the sitting room. We are very lucky because we have a store in town, before that we had to travel to Wednesbury for the nearest one, and that is a horrible motorway to get there.

Polly I hope you and your DD are OK, sending you hugs.

    Have a good day all

    Candlelightx
  • Hi CANDLELIGHT I know the layout of our Ikea so well now that I've got all the little cut throughs and quick routes in my head so I can just go to the department I want and find what I've gone for, not having to walk through the entire thing but being blinkered and only going for what I intend saves me mucho cash! It was lovely when the Southampton store which had been running as a possibility on the rumour machine did actually become reality as before that our only options were Croydon or Bristol both a fair distance from here. Now I can go on the local bus, Hoorah for Ikea!!!

We had some lovely much needed rain in the night and outside smells fresher today, the lawn is looking greener even after a few hours, wonderful stuff grass! The builder fitted most of the replacement double glazing yesterday BUT one didn't fit so he's having a replacement made and will fit that some time next week so today I don't have to be up and running as early as I have been, am planning a nice steady day just pottering, lovely!

LAINEY hope the wedding was wondercrump in every way and that a super time was had by all, particularly your Mumsie.

Hope your little granddaughter has a lovely birthday CANDLELIGHT.

POLLY sending you and your DD all the love in the world and gentle hugses and happy thoughts, I hope something beautifukl happens for both of you today to lift your spirits.

Have a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.
