Kaz..you stick to your guns hun..i can remember my fionna desperately wanting these awful wedge boots..cost a small fortune..well after much to-ing and fro-ing between us we settled on them in exchange for doing some more jobs around the house..well we got them for her and well it was like the 7th level of hell for us...she had changed her mind and refused to wear them point blank..sat at the bottom of the stairs crying, stamping her feet...her school mates called for her..i let them in so they could see what a little madam she was being..2 were shocked and 1 found it funny..as fionna had wanted them and now was having a paddy about it...my dd was so embarrassed by this she went to school and when she came home she apologized for being a brat...
I do agree at the miss sexy stuff its so inappropriate for a small girl to wear..imo these clothes and peer pressure to have them makes a little girl grow up too fast..
And one thing i did learn..i never ever took them clothes shopping with me..i bought nice clothes and decent trainers and shoes for them but until they got to 15 i bought the clothes they wore..that way no tantrums at the shops and with dad behind me they wouldn't dare moan about what i bought them...

I did bbq chicken for tea..i loved it so did hubby..tots didn't like it so it was a good job i did some plain chicken for them..they had it with mash and gravy..so traditional bless them.
Desperately need to get tots some trainers..but will have to wait til all the bills are paid and before we lose the £76 a week, also need some sandals and a pair for me and a little jacket for me too...will buy girls from clarks outlet on ebay and see if the CS have anything suitable for me..
I have decided to spring clean my dining room this week..the book shelves and toy box need sorting...also i noticed some marks on the walls..have got a sample pot for touch ups..will shampoo the carpets too...

Children and tantrums - there is a theory that the toddler tantrum period is repeated again pre-puberty. I haven't fully read the evidence, but apparently the same changes go on in the brain at anywhere between 8 and 11 that happen in the 2-3ish age range. While I absolutely agree to sticking to your guns for what is right for you and yours, it's also worth thinking which rules need to change with age. Another thought: my 11 yr old son thinks (of course) that we are the strictest parents in the world and don't let him have anything his friends have. However he is rather negative about other children's parents who are less strict and the affect it has on the children! If our son wants something - particularly extra freedoms - we sit and write out a contract e.g. If he does x, y and z without whinging, we will allow a and b. He finds this amusing and it does seem to help. My eldest is 26 - and I promise you the stroppiness turns intto amused sarcasm - not sure which is worse!

Ubamother..thats so true..its almost like they sense they are on the edge of finally growing up and they rebel a little..going back instead of forwards..I agree with that the older they get the more amusing sarcasm comes forth..my eldest is 25 and boy can she dish it..but can't take it lol...
Well we have a good day in the garden..and have made the ultimate decision to give up the allotments..rent is due end of april and its £80 odd...reasons for doing so..
    1,its a 7 mile round trip
2, £80 is a lot of money to just hand over at the moment
3, we have a large enough garden to grow exactly what we need
4, with the drought expected we can at least here water it and not trek 7 miles to water.
5, there has been a few raids at the lotties...not drugs..but folks veg going missing and tools..police seem to be doing b*gger all about it too...
So there you have it...this way it will be more convinient and easier to do..plus the tots can actually help and get to see how things grow and the end result..might inspire them to eat it..or am i pushing my luck...
We spent a lovely afternoon planning and measuring it all out..only thing i might miss out on is gooseberries and raspberries..but i have about 6lb of each in the freezer..so jam is still on the cards..rhubarb is another thing..but we are buying a new crown so hopefully next yr it will crop...
Sounds daft but me and hubby are so excited about doing it all..plus the £80 i have saved for the rents is now going to go on essentials..
    So there you have it...
    will be back later..

Ps..when we told the older girls they laughed and called us tom and barbara..the backyard revolution is happening..all we need is a pig and a goat..lmao

ftm, I got up at 3.45 today and went out into the garden taking in the dry washing and hanging out the wet stuff in my pyjamas. It was lovely and sunny :). So hot at work last night. Hope it's not so busy tonight, it was terrible.
Good luck with the garden planting, it's lovely to be able to pick your own produce from the garden. I am hoping for bumper crops from the fruit trees but don't think we'll get anything much otherwise. My blueberry bushes do naff all every year. DD is pleased about that, she can't bear them. She gets so disappointed, "I want to like them Mum but they're horrible!" Thank goodness they are not generally fussy eaters.
DH has spent >£100 on clothes for DD today. Very little gained for that. She'll still need bottoms when I can take her. At least I have managed to clear all of her old stained misshapen and grown out of clothing.
I have a nice sized pile for ebaying so will have to iron and list it as soon as I get a free moment. Unfortunately I missed the chance to do this this FLW. If I'd known Thursday, I could have done her clothes Thursday evening and listed them in readiness yesterday. Then I could have set the auctions to go live this morning. Never mind eh? Right, finish my coffee, put my face on and off to work I go!

My close friends have always called me Margot and I've never been offended as I always thought she was soooo stylish- enough said!

Anyway - found this link on the other thread for dried fruit at 12p. Could be a good store cupboard buy. I won't be using as I have a deep loathing of social networking sites but someone might be interested

oh so sorry, I haven`t read all the posts thoroughly yet, just got the outline of child tantrums. Kaz, we went through the absolute mill with middle dd, from the age of 3, Tantrum after tantrum and then it went fairly quiet until she got swept in by the `wrong` girl at school. She was an absolute blooming nightmare and I had so many sleepless nights and worrisome days. Let us just say that reverse psychology worked very well, as did us holding the boundaries. It was all change at 19 (sorry you didn`t want to hear that it took so long) and she went to uni and now has a wonderful dh and dd and is very well respected in a very big company. I believe that the very early tantrums were probably due to eating 3 meals a day whereas eating every 2 hours would probably have helped her sugar levels and mood

We have been nightmarish busy for 3 weeks. Painting a room and getting the garden structures right with a view to getting it ready for being older and stiffer. Too many difficult pots last year and now down to bigger pots with permanent plantings and so on. This weather has started spring with a bang and there was no time to wait, so most seeds are now sown and many sprouted and have had to be transplanted, even carrots have sprouted outside. We just came back from watering, already!!!

    A good pollen link
    http://www.worcester.ac.uk/discover/pollen-forecast.html
It is updated daily from the end of march and better to be prepared

I am quite worried about the lack of rain and my weather forecast for the whole of april is very dry where I live. Oil is also concerning and we filled up yesterday, it cost almost £80 and we weren`t empty.

Evening all -what a glorious day we've had here in Scotland. I even donned my designer shorts (pair of old jeans cut off with pinking shears) to cut the grass. Actually I ploughed through it yesterday but went over it again today to pick up the clumps which the mower simply couldn't cope with. When yesterday never really brightened up I was a bit despondent but today made up for it. The frightening thng though was coming out of my gym class at lunchtime and meeting lots of milky white, in fact almost blue skinned bodies wearing shorts and not a lot more - Scotland may well have some cases of pneumonia this week! I may not be the bonniest but I do wonder if some households actually have a mirror?!

I'm glad the garden is looking tidier, it feels much better now and I've been round with the strimmer too so the edges are neat as well. My mum's friend dropped off some cuttings of cowslip yesterday so I've planted it and fingers crossed it takes. For some reason I've never had any success with it in the past.Oddly enough it was on Gardener's World on Friday night and they also had periwinkle which I'm thinking may be nice on a banked area I have.

I'm getting impatient about my new piece of garden and orchard etc. Hubby has been really busy and dad needs lots of help on the farm right now so I'm bottom of the priority list. Problem is that it gives me more time to plan and as they say "from little acorns, giant oaks grow" - my mind has been working overtime!

My little tomato plants are coming on well in the propagator - I have the lid open now and they are standing proud and tall. Must read the instructions and see when I will need to pot them - I could then have a window ledge full of little pots. I have visions of me having to part the leaves to peer out:)

Hope everyone had a good weekend and is enjoying what is left.
