Kaz, I thought it was me but I don`t cope well with heat either and this weather hasn`t allowed acclimatisation to take place. I am like a wilted lettuce by mid afternoon and that is in spite of 2 fans going. Trouble is that the sun is still low enough to get into all the windows on the s side and we are all windows on that side. Blinds are ok but not perfect, even the solar blinds. The back is 3m deeper than the field and the garden is tiered up to the field (orchard really) so it is one immense suntrap. It is good later later when the solar shading ie verandah, does its work when the sun is higher and it gets blocked

Anyway, best time for me to do anything is am, so, 4 gallons of wine have been racked or bottled, lunch sorted, internet shop is put away, washing machine given its 3 month clean and all with either a cold or horrible reaction to `probably` birch pollen because I was in the garden working most of yesterday.

Tbh, I`ll be more than glad to get back into the season
  • Hello all, we have another lovely day down here, not quite as hot as yesterday and with some wispy clouds but still warm and summery. We have spent the day so far putting up a fence across the garden to keep the lurcher out of the vegetables, its coming up to planting time and he is prone to rolling round on top of seedlings, not to mention ad hoc watering!!!!! Tomorrow is going to be a milestone day for me - we are finally putting the poly on the frame for the polytunnel, something I've wanted all my adult life - I feel crazily like a child on christmas eve, the anticipation is almost unbearable, but its a wonderful prospect. We have neighbours who run a ceilidh band and they are currently practising in the garden in the sun and we have been serenaded whilst having our afternoon cuppa, its been a pleasure. Hoping all is well with everyone and their offsprings, Cheers Lyn.

Hi there, it's another beautiful day here, the kids have just broken up from school so we now have 2 weeks with no timetable. Lovely! Referred DD and I to family services at school yesterday. First meeting this morning. I think it went well(ish). DD's been given a behaviour chart to fill in and they've added a slot for me too to have time outs if I need them so DD doesn't follow me whining. The lady was very surprised until she got DD in and she started her usual behaviour with me. She said to her that she was behaving like a 5 year old and that from now on, I'm only to ask her to do something once and then she has to deal with the consequences. No washing brought down= no clean clothes to wear. That includes school uniform. Refusing to wash or do teeth= dirty smelly DD with no friends.
Hopefully it's sunk in a bit that I'm actually not that strict just because I won't let her have Facebook or hotmail or a mobile phone or dress like a slapper. I hope so. I'm looking at this as things can only get better.

    Hi all,

lovely day here too, but the wind is cooler so the change is definitely coming.

Kaz2904 - well done on the good start with family services. Hope it'll mean DD turns a corner and you see an improvement quickly. You have the patient of a saint, but its time you got your reward on earth rather than waiting to receive it in heaven. :A

I'm another one who's managed to arrange an online order without planning dinner for tonight. Runs off to inspect the freezer ...
  • KAZ - well done you have taken the first and definately the hardest step to solving your problem with your DD, hats off to you , have a really super easter break and don't weaken!!!!! Cheers Lyn.

We had a lovely tea this evening cobbled together from bits and bobs ordered from approved foods. Very carb heavy  which I didn't click really until I served it- salad, garlic dough balls, garlic bread, croutons (SWIM? :o) couscous and HM cheese cake (on a flan base) to follow.
    It was delicious.
I have everything ready for cub camp tomorrow and am just hoping that the weather holds until at least 5pm on Sunday :D
I still have no fuel due to the idiots panic buying. Our town has sold out and I've only got enough to get to one petrol station. If I get to one and it's dry I'm beggared! I'm just holding on tight.
One of the lovely Mums from school left a message on my facebook saying that if I needed a lift to work over the holidays I should call her as I'm an essential service (ooh get me eh?!). I thought it was a very kind offer. Hopefully I'll manage to get some because I think the 4.5 mile walk/cycle may kill me after a 12.5 hour night shift and I have got 5 in a row . It'd be ok if it was flat and/or I had a desk job but ours is just manic!
Have a lovely weekend everyone :)

kaz, very wd, It takes a lot of energy to be a good parent

Just a quickie as my post vanished. Several plants need protecting from the cold and I have just spent a good 2 hours protecting them for the whole week ahead, which is getting colder day by day. Lots of fleece used eg baby plants, new plants, tender plants that came out (sprouted) too early. My strawberries are mostly in patiogro trays and the fleece cover has gone on. Sprouted carrots, transplanted brassicas etc. Chillis, peppers and tomatoes are coming in the house tonight. Anything that has gone `soft` in the heat has been covered if possible. Bubblewrap is going on top of little polycarbonate greenhouses. I earthed up any potato shoot I could see on the allotment and I planted sprouted onion sets in the ground as the root trainers will be too cold. Sprouted broad beans have gone under cover

    Hi everyone...

Well its been glorious all week..until today:(..typical first day of the holidays and its chilly...still we went out into the garden and had a real good tidy up..i planted some new bulbs and sorted out the fruit bushes..put up trampoline for tots to bounce on..they loved it..

Spent last night tracing easter chicks, eggs and bunnies so we can make our own decorations..did buy some easter themed paper chains from PL..got our eggs all safely put away..
Have had to stop batch cooking and baking for a while as we have no more room in the freezers what so ever..as my lovely hubby politely said"you couldn't squeeze a fart in to it":o:rotfl:..lovely man.

I have spring cleaned my dining room..washed the paint work down, cleaned all the wood work(pine) with wood wash and finally de-cluttered my book shelves..amazing :D..put up some curtains that i got given and i don't like them:(..so they have to come down..trouble is i cannot find my nice lightweight summer ones..that go lovely in there..now where on earth could they be:question:...i have searched high and low..they are not in the blanket box or airing cupboard..i just hope i didn't CS them by mistake i will be fuming if i have:mad:..and have some explaining to do to:D...

Me and hubby are desperately trying to get some more work...we only need 4 hours thats the thing..but you have to have a contract to prove it..to claim the WTC..some days i feel like:wall:..

Kaz ..glad you and dd have taken steps..it a sh*te job at times being a mum..
Right have to go..hubby has made a lovely cuppa and tots are making easter cards..with dads help..so that means i will have to clean it all up later:D..
    love to you all...

Sorry to barge in but just to say to FTM that at the moment all our local schools are recruiting exam invigilators - this may be a stop gap four hours a week for a short while until you can get something else. :)
