Evening..just a quickie to say Hi to sammykaye...how you doing..and gosh the little one has grown so quickly...HM tomato sauce is lovely and so is soup..if you have your veggies out side already then pop them back in at night just so a frost can't nip at them..be awful to lose them to the weather..

MrsLW - I wish I could share my baking with my friends on this thread - it would save me eating it and being quite so "chunky"!

The spiced fruit loaf in the breadmaker is a bit heavy but I figure by the end of the week when it's a bit stale it will be lovely toasted.

SammyKaye -great to see you back. It seems like ages since you got your new house and I'm so glad you are settling in.

FTM - I was also thinking of venturing to Lidl - Asda does seem to be getting more expensive and I can't narrow it down to figure out exactly what is going up which makes me think it is everything so maybe time for some investigation.

I misted my tomato babies tonight and they seem ok - when I transplanted them yesterday a few were a bit sorry looking but now they are standing tall and proud so long may their growth continue - at this rate I will be supplying tomato plants to my mother and several friends which is great.

DD and I had a lovely day thanks for asking ftm :). We looked in nearly every shop in Bristol and got nearly back to the car at the top of Park Street when we realised we hadn't been into M&S. We decided to just go into the one in our town. Maybe I'll do an online order though? £46 spent and she got 3 pairs of PJ's, a pair of shorts and a dress. I got 4 long sleeved tops and 3 short sleeved. Primark do have some nice long tops but that shop is so untidy  why do they pile it so high and why do people just chuck it all around?
Nice weather here today. Hope it keeps. I do need to wash my bedding!

I am having a lazy day today..not much to do..

Kaz glad you and dd had a great day..sometimes its nice just the 2 of you..

  • Morning everyone, we had quite a lot of lovely rain here too last night and everything in the garden looks refreshed. Have just got back from our morning walk and big puddles all over, much to the dogs delight ( he likes jumping in the water) but I am very sad as someone has cut down my best elder bush on the chicken track and I shall have to go further afield for my elderflowers to make cordial. I know it will grow back but this year will be sparse. FTM we have a very old wheelbarrow which when pushed goes Weeerk Plunk! I still can't work out where the noise is coming from but you can sure hear it coming! Have a good day everyone Lyn.

Evening ladies - well it's been a bizarre week weatherwise. Since we last "chatted" I've experienced 4 inches of snow, gale force winds, biting cold and now it's persistent drizzle - what a change since last week. Then I read about the hosepipe ban and realised things truly have gone mad!

I hope those of you with children at home over the holidays are enjoying your time with them and keeping everyone occupied. I spoke to my one of my friend's daughters earlier tonight - she is 8 and asked what she had been up to so far. She told me mummy was teaching her to sew and she was doing very well. Upon speaking to my friend she admitted she had her blanket stitching round the edges of cut up towels and rags for dusters. She has the neatest dusters I know but they are both happy with the job in hand so I think it's a winner all round!

My tomatoes are coming along well - I'm very surprised at how much water they drink and I do wonder when they would be big enough to give them tomato food - do they have to be a certain age?
Rereading that question anyone would think I was asking about weaning a baby:rotfl:

I have dinner guests on Saturday night so I'm off to make some meringues/pavlova just now as a standby for dessert. I can't decide what to have for dessert so if I make them then I have an option and if we don't eat them on Saturday they will do for dinner at my parents on Sunday night.

    Hello all....
Weather is a bit mishmash at the moment..sunny but chilly, then overcast and raining...nevermind..

Have done some baking and made my very first carrot cake which went down a storm..everyone including tots loved it..have orders for another...
MLW..i am so excited about the new wheelbarrow because our old one is from when hubby was a labourer..its dented, flat tyre and really heavy:eek:..so having a new one is heaven..did chuckle at yours making that sound..had a flashback to margo trying to explain to tom and barbara the sound in the cellar when they went on holiday:D...weird but i did chuckle...
Garden still looks like a battlefield but its all dug over and ready to rotivate...got our veggies already and fingers crossed they grow.
Yay have just won a bundle of ladies summer tops for £8.00:j..o and ever romantic hubby has bought me some wooden pegs:rotfl:..our son was surprised when i was pleased..need them though my plastic ones have all snapped...

We did a shop at lidl's today:j..my gosh how much cheaper was it..really surprised..and pleased..so it won't be bread and butter for tea then;)..
I became an aunty again yesterday.. my little un-named nephew was born a month early due to my sil having pre-eclampsia..they are both fine and doing well...bit shell shocked i think..she only went for her check up and ended up with a baby:D..he weighs 5lb..so tiny..
right i'm off have got a really sore throat from somewhere..need a warm drink..
    love to you all

  • Hello all, we have had a busy few days in the garden and have planted two new apple trees and made an asparagus bed, DH has brought the rotavator back from the lottie and has started to level and rotavate in the new polytunnel and we have decided where the hen run will be sited - so excited to get chickens again, its been a couple of years since we had any and I miss their silly noises! FTM so lovely to hear your news about a new nephew, hope he and mum continue to thrive. Well done on the carrot cake our DDs always loved it and still do. Lidl is a really good chain and we also have an Aldi here, I am still paying the same prices for the same brands in their shop as we did when we used them in Germany 20 years ago its lovely at christmas to be able to get the Stollen cakes and the Lebekuchen gingerbread which we love. Wooden pegs are a lovely present to get, my DH at christmas got me an apple cutter to make life easier when it comes to the cider season, now that is what I consider really romantic - not!!!!!!!!! SCOTTISHMINNIE - I love the idea of tomato babies!!!!! KAZ - hope all is continuing well with you and that you are enjoying the easter break. Take care of yourselves and Happy Easter to all of you and your families Cheers Lyn.

Hi there, just popping in before my bath. The weather is a bit meh here but I've been really hot in bed today. Car is quite poorly sick so am hoping I can have it fixed quite simply on Tuesday.
Have had 2 of the slowest nights in work ever. The pts have all been lovely and I had 10 empty beds when I left this morning. Madness. We had 5 or 6 admissions and about 4 discharges so all in all, very calm. Think it will go downhill tonight and tomorrow and expect it to be awful by Monday night.
We had frost on Friday night but my plants are still ok. I even have some bedding plants from September or October which have not died yet! The hanging basket is still hanging in there too. I've 3 strawberry baskets outside which need rearranging. One has live plants in and the others seem to have succumbed to the who knows what. The live one could benefit from thinning out into the other 2 so hope DH will do that.
    Ttfn, happy easter everyone :)

Good Morning toughies - well it's finally planting day 1 in the polytunnel, all ready to go and we are puting in some peas and some early lettuce today WOOHOO!!! It's a much nicer day here with some bright sunshine and a nice breeze so being outside should be a nicer experience than it was yesterday. Hope all is well with all of you and that you are having a lovely Easter break with the littlies and Tomato Babies! DD1 and I are off to London tomorrow on an early train and have decided to go to the National Portrait Gallery in the morning, have lunch at the Swedish Cafe in Baker Street and then off to the theatre to see 39 Steps in the afternoon - I am really looking forward to it all, have a good day everyone, cheers Lyn.
