  • Morning everyone, its beautiful and sunny here today but bitterly cold earlier on only 1.6 when the lurcher took me for my early morning walk - I had to wear gloves!!!! KITTIE - interesting to hear that your son is Paleo too, we only started down this route when DD1 who teaches came home for easter. She is a department head with all the extra work and stress that involves, plus she does the D of E award scheme, helps run the Gifted and Talented scheme, etc. etc. so she's a busy bunny. She has been under the weather with one thing or another for the past 18 months and so tired so she decided to try this as a way to improve her health. She has lost over 2 stones in weight and has so much energy now I can hardly keep up with her. So we thought we would give it a try too. The biggest plus for me is that everything tastes so much more than it used to, and even broccoli is sweet to taste, its amazing! We have become very Polytunnel aware and keep passing each other seed packets with the comment 'Shall we just try a bit of this in the poly and see if we get an early crop - if we're not careful, we will fill it up and not have room for what we meant to grow!!! Have a good day everyone Cheers Lyn and the Polytunnel!!!

weatheraction has sent the may draft forecast. Its horrible, don`t bother buying summer clothes and don`t fret over a drought in the east. I can`t say any more as its subscription

let`s just say that I am having a repeat sub for my birthday. We saved the sub by adjusting our holidays and that will also be the case next month

  • Thanks KITTIE, I think I'll go and cuddle the apple trees until July, and put the spare winter duvet over the asparagus!

and I was going to get a few new summer tops but I am not bothering now. This weather reminds me of summer after summer when we went camping. I am also doing a re-vamp of our expectations re wood pellets for the stove. I don`t think we will last out until september at this rate, stove is on just about all day now
  • We are still lighting the woodburner every evening at the moment, what a difference to a couple of weeks ago eh? the only positive about all this unsettled weather is that all the water butts are full and so is the pond, unfortunately after this mornings walk with the hound so were DHs wellies!!!!!!!!

Hi all..well its been very wet and windy and bloody cold here the last few days...i know we need the rain but i also want to get on with my garden...as a quote said "rainy days are for gardeners to get the housework done"..have finally started the kitchen..moved the washing machine to its new home..fits perfectly..so now i have to empty 2 top cupboards and 2 base units..am simplyfying my kitchen..its stuffed to bursting with carp..my dd'd have inherited a lot of stuff and i have given loads to CS..only keeping things i really use on a daily basis..plus a few bits i just could not part with..
So when its finished my kitchen will be brighter, look bigger and i may be able to get a nice little table and 2 chairs in it for tots to have breakfast in kitchen with me in mornings..also having some shelves up means the cupboard that almost blocks the sunshine out of my kitchen will be gone..and hopefully it will be bathed in light.
I have been busy sorting out bits and bobs..i got fern some nice plastic needles so she can do her own threading and sewing without having pricked fingers..lol..
I finally caved and went to the CS..haven't been for a month..was most pleased..i got iris the most gorgeous skirt in lovely paisley pink and green..beautiful..£1..its new never been worn i reckon..got fern 2 beautiful summer dresses..the nice floaty style almost old fashioned and in the most lovely colours..£1 each...bargain..i also treated myself to wait for it...... A FLOWER PRESS!!!!!!!!!!!..omg i have been after one of these for years..i got it for £2..and it works they gave me a demo..amazing i almost skipped home...hubby was laughing at me...then he called me cute..lol..
I am hopefully going to donate some blood next week...but not sure if they will want mine as i had to have a transfusion in January...but the offer is there..
Me and my fionna are going to Bottesford carboot sale on sunday..we have a challenge ..we only take £5 each and then see what we can get for it..the loser buys tea's..lol i haven't bought tea yet.
I have had my lovely in-laws around for lunch..lovely people..i read horror stories about in-laws and thank my lucky stars for these 2 amazing people..

  • Evening all - hope you are all well.

Kittie - I'm seriously interested in the weather website and subscription. My father is a farmer and obsessed by the weather (for good reason) and his monitoring tools range from an old fashioned barometer (which has been tapped to death), one of those electronic weather stations (which he has never quite taken to) and numerous free websites. I may take out a subscription for him - an early fathers day gift I think and one that we could all benefit from. Thanks for sharing with us.

It's been very odd here on the weather front. It varies between not too cold and blooming freezing with brilliant sunshine to hailstones in seconds. So unpredictable! We actually had a covering of snow overnight on Monday which to be honest was not entirely unexpected. No wonder my azalea seems to have stopped mid bloom.

Things have been dreadfully busy at work hence me being awol since last week. I'm working 13/14 hours most days and it's just not easing off any. I have a well paid job which, for the most part, I enjoy but our company was taken over a few years back and the current senior management are so ignorant and downright obnoxious that I now feel I'm just being taken advantage of. Never mind, only 2 days until Friday, although I'm off to Bristol tomorrow after having spent Monday in London so it's another day of airports and closer to 16 hours away from home.

FTM - I have a flower press somewhere in the loft. I have a bag ready to go to the CS so on Friday evening I will venture up there and retrieve it to go in the bag so someone else can have the benefit. I'd forgotten all about it till I saw your post and though "I had one of them". I think I last used it to press some maple leaves which I brought home from Canada. I made a nice picture with them in a cheap white frame which I had planned to hang in the kitchen. I showed it to an elderly friend who spent 30+ years in Canada when she first married and she was so taken with it there were tears so I gave her it. I figured I would pick up more autumn maple leaves but I've never gotten round to it since.

Mrs LW - I've been forced to turn my heating on - something which breaks my MSE heart given the recent weather but theres no point in us being so cold we are uncomfortable.

Anyway, off to bed now so I can be up bright and early for my flight. Speak to you all soon:)

Hi, I haven't been on this thread for a while and just read that last page and saw the paleo diet mentioned. My DS who is a personal trainer was talking about it but when he tried it out he found it too expensive although he thought it made a big difference to how he felt. You can't spend what you don't have but is there a way of cutting the cost without losing the benefits? OS is renowned for using carbs as the basis of meals and I use very little meat compared to carbs.
