Me too MrsL, sick and tired of sub-zero temps. Been minus 5 every morning here... nice in the sun though but the minute the sun goes then its baltic.
Candlelight the RV is on LCHF for his diabetes and doing really well, diet controlled and no meds, been diagnosed 6-7 years now. He is thinking of trying the Newcastle diet but its a big change - and he's slightly underweight already.0 -
Mar, I am my own worst enemy because I know carbs turn to sugar.
I am pleased the RV is doing well. We have no potatoes, bread, rice or pasta and of course no cakes biscuits etc.
I have adapted the recipes in the book to suit us, so eating lots of salads and fresh veg. One of the recipes in the book is sliced avocado with a poached egg on top, and it is delicious sprinkled with black pepper.
We don't eat an enormous amount of meat and Himself doesn't like fish except tinned salmon:eek: so he has that sometimes with salad. The reason I don't like it is because Mum always kept a tin in the cupboard when we were children in case of visitors, and it was always red none of that pink stuff she would say. When I told her I preferred tuna she looked at me with pity because she thought I couldn't afford salmon.

Thank god the RV eats anything in front of him - in 50 years with me he's had to, to survive
The only thing he really really misses is biscuits.:D I'm the picky one in this house and would happily live on crisps, porridge and cornflakes. I'd be a hopeless mess if I was diabetic.

Evening all. Glad to see everyone is getting through the last of February. It feels like the longest month ever. Things are a bit poo on several fronts here but best not to dwell on them. I could definitely do with the hint of Spring to perk me up.
As Mardatha says it's been minus 5 or 6 most mornings but dry which has made such a change. Just seen the Countryfile forecast though and it looks like we are back to standard Scottish weather this week, wet and miserable.
My bulbs are poking through but maybe only 50% of what I would expect to see which is disappointing. I do hope the rest are just late. I haven't thought about planting in the window sill yet although I really should start my planning soon. Think it will be the tried and tested in the raised beds this year - potatoes, carrots and onions with a greenhouse full of tomatoes I hope. I did think about buying a paraffin heater for the greenhouse to start things off earlier but will need to weigh up the costs. I'm on a bit of an economy drive. Still using freezer and store cupboard foods but we are getting through them at last:o just goes to show how much I had!
I'm off to repair the toe of a pair of opaque black tights now. It's just a small hole but I stitched it a few weeks back so I think this will be the last repair before they head for the bin. They aren't thick enough to use wool and ordinary thread doesn't seem to be doing the trick so maybe it's just time to call it a day after this attempt.0 -
Same here minnie, I've got a few sad wee daffs about 3" high, some crocus and loads of snowdrops. The birds are very hungry in this hard cold.0

It's WARM OUTSIDE!!! Hoorah! We've been out for most of the day, walking about outside and I've just got back from walking Cookie, it's blissful out there and warm enough that I had to undo my coat, Oh Happy Day!!!0

Hi everyone,
Sorry it's still so cold for you all. We have had very strange, mixed weather - screaming hot over the weekend, high humidity and of course it tipped it down on Saturday evening just when we were supposed to be going to an open air movie. The rain lasted virtually for how long the movie would have been. So hot on Sunday night I could barely sleep under a sheet. Monday the proper rain started and it hasn't stopped, last night it was a definite snuggle under the duvet. During the day yesterday it was so humid it felt as if there wasn't enough actual air to breathe comfortably.
Thanks Candlelight and Lainey for you kind words about my job. Still continuing with the day (grind) job as that pays the bills, perhaps one day I won't have to do it anymore. Sorry about how your job's turned out Lainey, I think that's quite common unfortunately.
Candlelight I do hope the test results were OK. Thinking of you.
Sorry not to post yesterday, my online book group were having one of their parties and I was busy running quizzes for much of the day. They're a fun bunch.
The cats are not really enjoying the hot weather - every time it rains they're out in it, I presume trying to cool off. Of course, then they want to lie on the freshly washed bed sheets... Hope Flora's listening to you about the stair carpet Candlelight! They can be ratbags when they want to be.
Right that's about it from me, work time.
Much love
Hoglet xx0
