  • Hi Lainey,

Wishing you the very best for Monday. I expect you are a little apprehensive, but I am sure after a couple of days you will have settled well. How many hours will you be working?

Poor Rosie, our golden retriever Toby hated going to the vets, and he would drop down on all fours at the door. The poor thing had to have his anal glands drained fairly regularly and he hated that (who wouldn't).

Lyn, as Lainey says I think a stewards enquiry is in order. I don't suppose the prize is enormous, but some people need to win don't they? Perhaps they have been banned from a nearby pub.

    Have a good day all

Hey Candlelight, it's the first time in fourteen years that will be the new girl so am a tad nervous but everyone seemed very friendly at the interviews so sure all will be well. Will be doing three days a week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, my only concern really is making sure that Bill gets enough exercise. Before I worked just mornings so could get over to the yard more or less every day, but at least when the longer days come will be able to get out in the early evenings and if push comes to shove can do a bit in the arena.
Rosie dog has never really liked visiting the vets but last time she was messing herself with fear so I refuse to put her through it, Tilly the spaniel has no such problem and just waltzes in. It's weird coz in all other things Rose is the far more confident, just their individual characters I guess xx

    Hi everyone,

MLW - yes if def makes you wonder - v suspect. :-/

Lainey - sorry to hear how much Rosie dislikes the vets, home visit sounds like a good plan. Good luck at the new job.

Candlelight- spring will be with you soon! And it will be my autumn and I'll be getting cold when you'll be warming up.

After a week with no plug-in we had to put it back on last night - cats were point blank refusing to eat. I have found they eat much better with it on and are less fussy. This morning Izzy and Socks happily ate their biscuits, so hopefully they'll be back to 'normal' soon.

I along have a half day today and we have a long weekend - 3 1/2 days off yippee!!! I had a complete day of rest off the bike and no swimming yesterday, will do a flat route today and then back into the hills over the weekend. We're dog sitting too for my cousin, always enjoy that.

    Have a lovely evening everyone,

    Hoglet x
  • The entry fee is only £1.50 each so we're not talking a fortune in winnings here and 50p of that goes to Marie Curie so it's not the winnings just the idea that some folks MIGHT be cheating for the odd £15 or thereabouts, it's a principle thing. I haven't heard of anyone being banned from other pub quizzes locally but they might be from another village, we'll see how it pans out but we enjoy the quiz too much to stop going!

Had a lovely time up with Nell, He Who Knows has mown lawns and pruned gardens and I have houseworked, cooked and ironed for her so she's up to date with everything. He took her to the supermarket today and brought all home in the car so she's OK for a while. Nice to be back home again though, armchair, slippers, woodstove my books, Mmmmmmm lovely!!!
  • Good to see you back Lyn, safe and sound

Do you know it hasn't stopped raining here all day and it rained through the night as well. We didn't have to go out so we were cosy at home.

DGD1 has been busy putting photographs in frames and putting them on her bedroom wall. Her BF will be coming round later after he has walked his dog, but they have decided not to go out anywhere because of the weather.

I don't know what we will be doing tomorrow, I suppose that much depends on the weather, but I am quite happy at home.

Enjoy your evening Lyn and your own bed

    Much love to all

  • Evening all. Hubby and I have just enjoyed watching a spectacular fireworks display from our from window. We have concluded it may be a Chines restaurant which is about 4 miles away as it is Chines New Year. There are benefits to being in a really elevated position sometimes:)

I've had a busy weekend but something feels odd, can't quite put my finger on it though. I have a huge crockpot of venison bubbling away and a batch of meringues cooling which I will store for next weekend. I made key lime pie to take to my parents from dinner earlier so had left over egg whites.
I also made my first attempt at clootie dumpling. It's now in the oven having the outside skin crisped up as I don't have an open fire to dry it out over. It seems to be ok but as neither hubby or I are big fans of dumpling it's hard to tell! It's my fathers birthday later in the week so if it is a success it will be used instead of birthday cake. I will admit it is anything but round- has more of a lumpy oval shape:o

The housework is all up to date, I've even had time to paint my nails so I look presentable but I can't shake that feeling of having forgotten something. I'm sure it will come back to me soon enough - probably somewhere around the middle of the night!

Good luck with day one tomorrow Lainey. I know that "new girl" feeling well. I've been with the same company for 16 years but have worked in numerous departments and it always feels odd for the first month or so however it's amazing how quickly that feeling goes. My current department has had quite a bit of staff movement recently so I'm now regarded as one of the "in with the bricks" brigade despite only being there 4 years:)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone. I'm off for a cup of tea before bed.

    Hi everyone,

Back to work for me today booooo! Had a lovely realxing weekend, weather was reasonable and we loved going out to look after the dogs, cats and chooks. DH found the chooks running after me when I went to get their food relly funny, so there might be hope for some feathered freinds yet. He still says not while we're in this house, I'm being very patient.

I was very good and did 3 days of biking too - never once managed to get up early for it but it still got done. Did 28 miles yeasterday so feeling v virtous although I didn't go out into the hills. :-/

Cats seem happy enough now - we're only giving them dry biscuits at the moment as they're still being a bit picky with their food and the canned meat was attracting flies.

Managed to get lots of reading done as 3 of my library books on hold all became available at the same time, so I'm trying to fit them all in. Currently deep in a medieval thriller which is exellently written.

Hope you're all well, must dash,

    love Hoglet xxx
  • Good evening all,

Has been blowing a hoolie today, but the wind seems to have ceased for the time being. I am so fed up of the wind and rain.

I didn't go out at all today, Himself went for a paper but that was all.

I stripped our bed and washed all the linen, DGD1 had changed hers as well so I washed that, although she didn't ask me to.

We have to go to the supermarket tomorrow because I am running out of quite a few things.

SM and Hoglet you sound as though you have both been really busy. Do you know I have never tasted venison, that is on my to do list. Hoglet all those miles, have you lost much weight since taking up the bicycle? You wouldn't like it here at the moment because the weather is awful.

Lainey I am so pleased you enjoyed your first day and that the people seem nice, after a week you won't feel like the new girl any more.

Well we are all tucked up here warm and cosy. Flora is at the side of me fast asleep where she usually is, and i keep reminding her how lucky she is to be an indoor cat. She wouldn't be able to cope outside anyway now, and our road is so busy.

Lyn, I hope you are not being battered too much now on the south coast, I know, according to the news, it has been bad. I wonder how many more of these storms will we have before spring arrives.

Take care all and stay safe

  • Hi CANDLELIGHT Imogen has left and is unlamented!!! No damage that I can see except that we have lost a sapling Eucalyptus tree that has uprooted itself for the last time, poor thing, I think it's the third time and this is terminal as the roots have all been on the surface and can't hold it in place so it will have to come down. Never mind, it was originally on Nells balcony in a pot when she was renting and we gave it a chance in the garden but it was never happy!!!

Hope everyone else has survived the blow without too much of a problem, I see that Monnagran had tiles from next doors roof into the garden and a few things damaged but not the structure of her house thank goodness.

Hope you're all stafe after the storm.

Candlelight - yes I have lost a bit but I have been careful what I've been eating too. I've gained quite a lot of muscle too which is probably why the scales aren't showing a huge decrese. I definitely feel better that's for sure. I'm dreading the winter as I enjoy being outside on it so much, but I will probably succumb to an indoor trainer if I really can't get out. They're pricy but there will no doubt be a sale on at some point!
