Hi everyone,
I think we just caught the end of an old cyclone last night - wind and rain all night. The cats were restless - started off ok with them all on the bed but by 4.30 am Izzy and Alfie were winding each other up. I opened the bathroom window so they could escape and we ended up with Alfie on one side of the window and Izzy on the other and they were battering each other underneath it. I did not get much sleep last night!
Candlelight - the cats send Flora lots of purrrrrs back.
Just a quick note from me, hope you're all well,
Love Hoglet xxx0 -
Thanks Candlelight, I'm just wishing for slightly warmer weather as the cold is doing me no good at all. Keep well.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0

Good to hear from you AOT.
I am the same, I never used to feel the cold when I was young, but my goodness I do now. When I woke this morning I could barely put my feet to the ground, the cold seems to penetrate my bones.
Roll on spring, take care of yourself
Much love

Hello all,
A lovely day here, unlike yesterday when it rained for most of the day.
We started out early because we had to have some repeat blood tests at the hospital. We were there for 8.30 but didn't actual have the blood taken until about 9.30. It is horrendous parking there, but we found a spot.
We then went to Asda for a few bits and had a cup of coffee. Came home I made some soup and I have just put some washing on.
We are both following Dr. Michael Moseley's the 8 week blood sugar diet. We have been doing it for just under a week and is going well. My big fault is bread, I love it, but on this diet I cannot eat it, or potatoes, pasta or rice. The medics seem to think you can reverse diabetes, whereas before it was always thought to be a lifetime condition.
I am determined to do it because I hate the side effects of the tablets I take.In saying that the doctor did change them for me a couple of weeks ago and these seem to be more agreeable. They were mentioned by a poster on another thread and I am very grateful.
It isn't just the tablets, but the effects diabetes has on the whole body, and I intend to be around for a lot longer.
Lyn is away cat sitting at the moment, and Nell should be home from her trip this evening. I know we all miss dearest Docky, but Lyn and He Who Knows seem to be able to do more things together now which is good.
Himself had a quiet birthday yesterday and it is our grandson's today he is 19, and I have managed to get everyone in place for Saturday at a carvery, so really looking forward to that.
Lainey I hope you are starting to feel a little better now. There seems to be some nasty viruses around at the moment.
Have a good day all

Hello everybody,
Well, I seemed to have moved on from the achey, coughy stage to the constantly sneezing and running nose stage, how glamorous!
Really hope that this means it's now starting to come out, cannot remember having such a nasty virus in a very long time and frankly it's timing suckswas supposed to work today but phoned the office and was told in no uncertain terms to stay away until am better.
My lovely OH took me over to see Bill yesterday, I had made the yard aware that I was ill so one of the girls had taken him out for a long hack on Tuesday but was so lovely just to give him a little groom and loads of cuddles. Hopefully by tomorrow will be up to going over myself, hate sneezing when driving at best of times let alone when do 10 on the trot.
It's a beautiful afternoon here, blue sky and sunshine. Our lounge has four windows in it, three of which get the afternoon sun so am sitting here, snuggled under a blanket and being kept company by my two gorgeous girls. Have taken some mince out of the freezer so we will have something easy like spag bol for supper, bit of an appetite coming back thank goodness.
Hoglet, I did laugh at the image of the two cats batting away at each other through the window
AOT - hope you are getting some sunshine today, spring must be just around the corner.
Candlelight - so pleased to hear that you are doing well on the diabetes diet and that the different medication is working out.
Love and hugs to all xx0 -
Hi everyone,
Lainey - I do hope you're starting to feel better. Look after yourself!
I meant to post yesterday but somehow didn't get round to it. We had a lovely, if slightly spendy, weekend. The weather was great and we went to the chinese lantern festival. weekend was spendy because we on;y stayed for a little bit and then retired to the pub for dinner, but we don't do that often so it was nice to have a treat. I've told DH we need to have some serious saving weeks as his kids are coming to visit us in our winter, and we're escaping the cold for one of the weeks they're with us.
I've had some good work news tho - whilst I will keep on with my day job I've been asked to join another company on a freelance basis. It's not linked to the day job, so there's no conflict of interest, but it is linked to my little home business, so I'm very pleased that my work has been noticed.
The cats seem happy - they're enjoying chasing bugs at the moment. Alfie chased one right up onto the kithcen counters and started sending everything flying but no damage was done. Phew!
Must dash,
Hoglet xxx0 -
Good evening all,
Another lovely day here, bright but cold.
Not a great deal happening really. My tulips in tubs are coming up a pace and the daffs in the garden. Lots of foliage on the bluebells as well.
Took DGD2 to dance class this morning and then popped into town to return a pair of shoes. DGD1 is just getting ready to go out with DGD2 and a friend and then her BF will pick them up, so home safe and sound eventually.
Hoglet congratulations it sounds as though you are going to be really busy, but doing things you love. Alfie sounds to be a character, I do love to watch Flora as well, we usually have an idea when she is about to make mischief.
Well we have ordered new stair carpet and laminate flooring for the hall. It is only a tiny vestibule hall so don't need much wood. It will probably be about 2 weeks before the carpet is in stock and then we need to arrange a fitting date. I am going to have a serious talk with Flora whose favourite passtime in the middle of the night is scratching stair carpet. Any remedies anyone on how to put her off. I have bought the usual pet sprays but they didn't work. I searched the question and someone mentioned citronella oil. anyone tried it?
I have to see the GP on Monday he didn't like the result of a blood test for my kidneys so sent me for another one and wants to see me again:eek::eek: I hope it isn't anything too serious, will let you kmow.
Himself has been suffering badly with his knee. We thought it might have been gout moved up to the knee joint but he says it feels different. Anyway I sent him off to have a nap in bed this afternoon and he says it feels a little easier, so fingers crossed.
Lyn I hope you and He Who Knows are OK. I am sure you must be both quite busy in the polytunnel preparing everything for spring.
AOT I hope you are OK, it was lovely to hear from you.
Lainey I know you had a good birthday and you took your boy out
SM I hope you are well. I think it is still very cold up in Scotland and I expect your bulbs will be a little behind ours, although in saying that mine are not usually up yet, although of course they are not in flower.
Have a good weekend all, and stay safe
much love

Evening everyone,
Thank you Candlelight I had a lovely birthday yesterday and am carrying on the celebrations today. Will be thinking about you on Monday with the blood test and all.
It's been another bright, sunny day here but boy has it been cold! Drove over to pick darling Mum up this morning, bless her, she spoilt me with the MB cookbook that goes with the current series, lots of lovely recipes in there, do love reading cookbooks. She also picked up a tray with a picture of a choc lab puppy on it because she said it reminded her of when Rosie was a pup x Also had some flowers and a birthday cake :j
She came with me to see Bill this afternoon, the wind was whipping round the yard so we didn't stay long as worried she would get cold but she loved giving him an apple, a Pink Lady no less so he got spoilt too!
Tomorrow, we are hoping to have a look round the gardens of a big house in a nearby village, they are advertising a snowdrop walk so fingers crossed it will be be good. A friend of mine who is an excellent cake maker provides sweet treats for the small cafe there so will have to sample some of them. The house itself will also be the venue of my eldest niece's wedding in August and will be a gorgeous setting.
Apart from that, don't have many plans, picked up a nice leg of lamb in W@itrose on Friday as that's Mums favourite and think will make an apple crumble for afters.
Hoglet, sounds like you will be busy with the new work as well but fun as well. Wish could say the same about my new job, unfortunately not quite turned out to be what was told but will do until can find something better.
Hope everyone else is well and avoiding all the nasty lurgies that seem to be around at the moment, the days are certainly getting longer and before we know it, it will be Easter :j
Have a good weekend all, take care xx0 -
Evening all, not much going on chez nous at the moment, seeds are sown and in pots on the windowsills, polytunnel, garden and greenhouse are ready, allotment is being finished and to be honest I think I'm suffering from Februaryitis!!! I'm not enjoying being cold every day and long for some more gentle and benign weather and gentle warm sunshine. I know it will happen soon and am trying not to grump too much but I would love to be able to sit in the garden and have a cuppa, not huddle beside the stove and shiver when I'm away from it!!! All is fine here and I hope all is fine with each of you, Love Lyn xxx.0

I finally stopped being stubborn this morning and turned on the central heating for the first time this winter to warm the whole house up, Oh what a difference to your mood being warm makes!!! Note to self, do it more often until Spring is here!!!0
