    Hi everyone,

Not much to report here - the place kind of shuts down in the winter. Last night I had my hair cut tho, which was a real tret - I tried a new hairdressers and they were fine, close to home and open until 9pm to cater for people who are out at work all day. The place was packed too, so they must be doing something right.

On Saturday DH and I will be celebrating out wedding anniversary, so we'll be out for dinner which I'm so looking forward too. Sunday I have my craft club too. And then this morning I woke up to find that one of my first clients from my little business is asking me to do some more work for them *happy dance here*.

Naturally every bill known to man has fallen the same week as our dinner out, including DH's car warrant of fitness (same sort of thing as MOT, which it passed - phew!), both our car regoes (tax), the electricain's bill from fixing our bathroom light and a huge electricity bill owing to winter... Thankfully we have the money put away for it all, but I HATE raiding the savings to pay bills.

Right, off to generate a quote :-)

    Love to you all,

    Hoglet x

    Hi all

I'm glad to hear everyone is enjoying the weather. It's been a bit absent here in Scotland until yesterday. Unfortunately I was sweltering in London so missed it and today we have torrential rain. I do hope it picks up soon, I have an garden party to help organise on Saturday. I'm kind of organised, the pavlova is made, mint aero cheesecake in the fridge, so tomorrow I have red velvet cupcakes, birthday cake and lemon tart to create. I can see tomorrow being a busy day.

My fruit trees have some fruit and the black currant bush is laden. Both seem to be attracting the feather residents so I think we will need to net them very soon.

AOT - lovely news about the baby name.
Candlelight- stil no news on the land issue, we've been told not to expect any news for at least another 5 weeks.
Right now I'm off to tackle the ironing and watch escape to the country as hubby is out and I have the remote control all to myself!

    Hi all,

A lovely day here, not nearly as humid as the last couple of days. This I can deal with, humidity no, it seems to drain the life from me.

Hoglet, Happy Anniversary and how lovely your little business is thriving, well done that woman :) I hope DH is feeling a little better after physio.

SM, waiting is the worse part isn't it, but there is no point in worrying until you know the decision, but I do hope it is in your favour . I hope the garden fete goes well and the weather stays fine for you. You always sound as though you make the most delicious desserts, yummy.

Well, we have a young person living with us for a while. DGD1 who is 22 and who lived with boyfriend, is taking time out for various reasons, and has come to live with us. She is like a breath of fresh air, but have to remember it is about 24 years since youngest daughter left, so takes some getting used to. We have always been really close, and I told her when she moved in with him that she would always have a home here if she needed one. No one can be sure of the future can they? Anyway she has just started a new job, which sounds fantastic and she has a new home for the time being. I am sure eventually she will want her own home, and her youngest sister starts work in August, alhough she will only be 16, but I think eventually they might rent a flat together. I do have to remind Himself not to keep asking what time she will be home, because young people seem to keep different hours than we did in our youth. I always had to be home for 10p.m. but these days they don't seem to go out until late at the weekend.

Himself and Flora are both having their siesta. Flora wasn't very well yesterday and I think the heat had got to her, so I only let her have a few biscuits and water of course. This morning she woke me at 5.30 and was obviously hungry so I gave her a third of a satchet of tuna and she ate it and seems much brighter today thank goodness.

Lyn you and He Who Knows must be so busy with your produce at the moment because of this lovely weather. Lots of lovely supplies for when the weather isn't so good (I don't want to mention the w**ter word). Our friends are coming to see us next week, no doubt bringing lovely produce from their allotment, and I do so appreciate it, so will make them a couple of cakes to take home.

No more news I think so have a lovely weekend, stay safe in the sun.

    Much love

Good morning all. Hoglet, hope you've enjoyed your anniversary. And Scottishminnie, hope the garden party goes well today.

Not a lot to report here, spent time in London this week but in an air conditioned office (which I'm told broke down after I'd come back up north - lucky escape there), and had a lovely date night with DH - Italian meal and saw a magician.

Wow the storms during the night were spectacular. The doglets weren't impressed but settled back down when I told them it was still bedtime. I've just given them a treat this morning for being so good.

Today, I'm off to an event at the local church and will be climbing up the tower. Its my yearly challenge, just to prove to myself I can still do it.

    Have a great day everyone.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • Morning all, we didn't get even a glimmer of those storms, in fact other than a few drops of rain the other day we've had warm nice weather for weeks now. Today is the village festival which always brings hoards of folks into the village so the roads will be very congested and getting anywhere by car will be difficult. We're lucky to be close enough to walk in and usually get friends asking to park on the drive. It's a fun time for all followed for those who dance by the summer ball in the village hall, not us though but we enjoy listening to the music! The plots are beginning to produce well now and we have the beginnings of the usual courgette glut. I made such a nice supper for us last night by sauteing an onion, a clove of garlic and a green pepper in a little butter until softened then adding in 1lb of sliced courgettes and popping a lid on until they were cooked through. I added a couple of tablespoons of double cream, a couple of tablespoons of pesto and a couple of handfuls of mixed cheddar and parmesan cheese and letting it all meld into a lovely sauce. Lashings of black pepper and a couple of slices of toast gave us a really tasty meal, yummy! Today I have to be inventive with a colanderful of french beans so am looking for inspiration in my cookery books, as yet unfound!

Hope your garden party is fun SM and look after those knees JAZEE. Have yourselves a nice day whatever you're doing, Lyn xxx.
  • Good morning all,

We had the most horrendous storm during the night, with thunder and lightening and very heavy rain.

All to the good though because everything feels fresher, although my poor roses are bowed down with the rain.

We popped out for a few things early this morning, Himself put the Dyson around downstairs, and I did some washing, so we are clean and tidy. Not much cooking planned for today.

We are going to DDs on Monday to start her decorating, so must look out the old painting sheets tomorrow. DGS is coming with us as well, and she is going to pay him for helping and keep him supplied with bacon sandwiches. Knowing her she will be preparing the room this weekend so it will be ready to go, will let you know how it goes. We are hoping it will only take a couple of days with 4 of us painting and hopefully it won't be too warm.

    Have a good weekend

  • Such a better day today, this morning was cool enough to need a dressing gown to go up and open the hothouses and a hot cup of tea wasn't the trial it's been for the past week. We even had a proper hot meal for lunch with GRAVY, oh how delicious it was to be able to eat hot food and not feel overheated. We had the cloud cover until 2ish this afternoon but with the sunshine came a lovely breeze so we walked across the common, through the woodland path and back home along the lanes and footpaths, so nice to be cool again.

Good news from Ruthie last night, they've accepted an offer on the flat very close to the asking price, it's only been on the market for 2 weeks now and their buyers are not in a chain. They'll have to look for their new home in earnest now as they've viewed a few properties but none of them has been what they're looking for, exciting times. I think they want me to have Zebra for a couple of days while the move takes place which will be his first time away from them both, might be tiring but should be lovely.

Hope all of you have had a cooler day today and are all well, happy and content, Lyn xxx.

    Good morning everyone!

Candlelight - so glad Flora is feeling better - Socks, Alie and Izzy sent lots of purrs.

Thanks so much everyone for the good wishes for our anniversary - we had a lovely time, and DH even got to watch most of the rugby after the meal. DH had managed to fit in some local rugby watching before we went out, as he's off still with his calf muscle, so that kept him pretty happy and let me get on with some work.

Craft club yesterday went well - although my tarts were a bit of a disater but they tasted OK - so that was the important thing.

Now back into the working week. Hope you all have a good week and are keeping well,

    Love Hoglet x
  • Hot again today but not too hot, much better state of affairs! We've just picked the first ripe tomatoes from the greenhouse, they are those lovely yellow ones called Sungold, so sweet and delicious, I also today picked another half pound of loganberries, 2 lbs of green beans and podded out a big bag of broadies from the allotment all of which are in the freezer. He Who Knows was given a bag of new potatoes by someone there this morning and also brought me a fair few courgettes too, love it when the big harvest starts.

He Who Knows is minus his sorely tooth, dentist had a cancellation this afternoon and offered it to him, much better place to be when you're going abroad for a holiday soon. Hopefully he'll be completely healed and over it by then.

Hope you've all had a nice day, we haven't had any rain or storms here but I'm hoping that we'll get some rain tonight and maybe pick up some showers tomorrow, the gardens need it desperately, Lyn xxx.

Well, the garden party went well despite thunder, lightning and flash floods. The food was a success and the mint aero cheesecake I made was the star of the show. Ironic when it took a quarter of the time that everything else took! It's so frustrating, we reckon that of the 25 occasions the party has been held there have been less than 5 instances of good weather.
We've had more rain and flooding since. No danger of me having to water the plants anytime soon!

So I'm now a bit behind with a few things after all the extra work at the end of last week. I badly need to phone some friends for a chat before they begin to think I am avoiding them.

I bought a vax machine earlier in the year however I haven't got round to using it yet. I'd been waiting for some really warm weather so I could leave the doors and windows open. Maybe soon? I'm now thinking we need to have the hall repainted so maybe I should wait until that is done before I clean the carpets.

I'm due to donate blood tomorrow. I was horrified to find I hadn't been since December so I'm making it a priority. I'll feel much better once I've done that!
