Hi recoverydust, just read back a couple of pages, I put an explantaion in a post of mine

I`ll be posting a bread recipe on the sourdough thread later, I trialed it yesterday and it is the easiest ever as I made it in the panasonic breadmaker. It did all the work and it used just basic ingredients ie starter, flour, salt and water.

I am planning ahead again as last year dh had a bad time with his asthma in april/may and it was hard to get under control. He is allergic to the usual stuff but also rapeseed and I think it is the phenolics (perfume) that set it off. I have ordered a 7 stage air cleaner/purifier as we are surrounded by rapeseed fields from about 500m. They are the fields showing dark green at the moment and one farmer has changed from wheat to all rapeseed. The cleaner is not a cheap one and I have spent days researching the various types. That one will be working in the bedroom 24/7 with the windows and vents shut and will refresh the air so I`ll cope fine with windows tight shut. Its the bloomin biofuel industry causing this and high rapeseed prices, higher than they get for wheat and they also use gm rapeseed so can get away with an appropriate weed killer (monsanto I think)

Just a quick edit to say that I am being very careful to get non ozone producers

My old qvc oreck filter does produce ozone so it will be recycled as soon as I get the new one. I can`t risk anything when it comes to asthma

I'll be having a look for that Kittie. I really like sourdough and the prospect of doing it in the BM rather than the hard way appeals to me:o

I decided at the weekend that I need to completely use up all my bread flour before I buy any more so we are having seeded tonight and tomorrow and it may be a rather odd loaf as the week goes on but it will get rid of all the little drops which are left.

I have empire biscuits in the oven at the moment so the kitchen smells rather nice. My mother is having some friends for lunch tomorrow so she requested them. I also have a victoria sponge waiting to go in after the biscuits are out - she didn't ask for it however I'm sure it will be welcome. I won't ice/fill it. I'll give her the filling and if she doesn't need to use it she can freeze the cake.

It's a bit of a slow week, really busy at work and I think I may need to be in a couple of hours early to get up to where I should be as I'm off to Manchester on business on Thursday so that's effectively a day lost. It seems such a waste - up at 4am and not home until 11pm, meetings all day and then to have to start to Thursday's emails when I get home. I guess I shouldn't complain as not everyone has the option to work right now.

I'm idly gazing at a dishtowel as I type this - it's all stained, looks like tomato seeds to me. I never seem to be able to get dishtowels clean and rid of all the stains. I think the problem is I'm a messy worker and inclined to wipe things with the towel. Even adding a scoop of vanish to each wash doesn't seem to work. Maybe I should just buy darker coloured tea towels!

    Hello Everyone

Have to share this encounter I had today with you.

I was in the fields near my house when a couple of girls (13 - 15yrs old) came up to me and rather excitedly said they had been chased away from a field they wanted to cross by 2 ponies. I explained people fed the ponies and they were a bit pushy but harmless. As they were still reluctant to try again I showed them a different route.

As we were crossing a field one of them pointed to the next field and said "Look there are more ponies over there"
Other girl said "Oh yes they look a bit different though"
    Ma - "those are cows"
    Girl -"are cows dangerous?"
Ma - "not usually but you should stay away from them if they have calves"
    (short whispered conversation between girls)
Girl - "what colour are calves?"
Ma - "calves are baby cows so if you see big cows with little ones stay away.

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry - it's hardly a metropolis where i live and there are fields all round.

omg malarkin, that is sad, they must have seen calves in books or on tv

Sourdough recipe coming up very soon, as soon as I get my arris of the sofa, as I have pinned it (recipe) to my fridge. It worked and in fact was gorgeous and grew a lot

I`ve been doing a bit more sorting today and put several excellent books on amazon, sewing and trading stocks ( I used to trade shares to build up dh`s pension pot in a sipp). People will be getting real bargains but I am being realistic

What has been making me a bit sad is that my dd`s haven`t wanted to learn knitting and sewing skills, I mean I have done both since I was practically in nappies (60 years) and can do all sorts well. Doh, I know how many people would have liked one to one with all materials (and more) included but unfortunately not mine. I do hardly any now and I am minded to rationalise my equipment and stashes but I can`t do it in a major way yet. I have lots of gorgeous childrens cotton fabrics and several ottobre magazines with the most delightful patterns I have ever seen but hey shop bought stuff is instant. Oh stop moaning kittie :)

I have stripped down a stash of simply knitting mags and got some patterns ready to file. Lol, I get them for the alan dart patterns really, I love them and have a lot. My empty charity shop bag has 3 items in it and I`ll soon take it to a hospice shop, I am sure someone can use what I give

I started to learn both last year. I decided that it was about time I put myself to good use in the evenings. I started making a quilt for our bed but I haven't finished it yet. I now have all the bits I need in order to make all of the tops squares a top and I won a linen sheet from ebay the other day which I am hoping I can use as a backing for it. I got some acrylic blankets in the CS last year for £1 each and am going to use one of those for the wadding.
I will start piecing the squares together over the half term holiday as I'm off.
My knitting is sitting sadly neglected. I got a bit bleurgh with it after I went wrong and had to get my sister to frog almost half a cardigan. I will get it back out too and get to work on finishing it. It will be a lovely wear when it's done.

I will second this! They are lucky to have you to teach them if they change their minds.

oh you are brilliant. What a good idea for all my child fabrics as they are all lovely soft cotton. I could simply machine squares together and put a thin layer in between then a backing sheet. :) wow that justifies my keeping the fabric. Thank you kaz

Amazon selling is working great, I sold 3 yesterday and posted. They are getting very good bargains and I am getting some free space and a few £. Not much but better than nothing. I see that amazon do trade ins, that is new to me. I wondered where they were getting all there second hand stuff from

I do empathise with the posters who could do with craft teachers :) It is hard on your own
