Just checked my car insurance and it is up at the end of May, and I have found a quote £50 cheaper a month :)

Just need to remember to sort it out at the end of May.
  • Well done !!! £50 a month is a fantastic saving :j

I am going to have to knuckle down and get some quotes for my house insurance, due for renewal 1 May. I paid £250 last year on a 10 months for price of 12 deal, and have just had my renewal quote £327  So will be shopping around.

I dont know who your broadband/landline package is with, but its worth giving them a ring. I still had 6 months to go on my virgin deal when I phoned them. The first advisor said she couldnt offer me anything, but I was persistant and kept ringing until I got someone sympathetic who offered me a better deal.

Ouch! I don't actually have house insurance, not good I know! I figured I don't actually own anything of value though as I have sold most of it to pay debts, so there wouldn't be much to insure.

Are there any ways of lowering your insurance, such as burglar alarm etc? I don't really know much about it.

I am with BT, landline and broadband. They only seem keen to negotiate deals if you have their TV package too, but I am going to give it a go!

Good luck with the house insurance!
  • Hi Katy *waves* just stumbled on your diary & have read right through:) - you've had some ups and downs with the car & tax problems etc but don't give up, you will get there.

I do agree with your comments about your rent costs - these are really huge compared to your income (over 1/3:eek:) so if you're able to consider moving at some point then that would help loads.

Trying to find a "bright" side to the tax issue - at least it will be paid off relatively quickly at that amount which will make a huge difference to balancing the books so hang on in there...... great news on the £50/month saving on the car insurance too:T

    Hi rising :)

Wow you must have some dedication to sit through my random ramblings!

I do keep thinking about moving, and looking in to it. There is kind of an emotional reason for staying here though and I am worried how I would cope if I moved elsewhere. I can handle being totally skint whilst I am living here, but even though I would have slightly more money I would still be struggling if I moved elsewhere but don't know if I would cope so well. If that makes any sense?

Tyson is doing fine thanks, he had an adventure over the weekend as I went away and gave my parents keys to come and babysit him. They broke the key in the lock and so he was locked in the house on his own over the weekend until we could get the locksmith out. He seemed fine though, no Macaulay Culkin style antics!

I have done quite well over the past week, not spent money on anything other than vets bills and fuel.

I am now trying to decide whether to go to a car boot sale tomorrow to get some bits for making gifts and some other little bits I need.

If I spend tomorrow though will that undo the good week I have had and trigger off another wobble?

    Hmmm

I am certainly thinking more about the money I spend, but it is still a very conscious thing and not yet part of my lifestyle.

I will get there I guess

    Well, slipped big time!

Boyfriend moved in with me earlier in in the month, and so the spending diary slipped as I had extra spends and he bought food etc so it all got muddled. I never did get back on track with it.

I had to kick him out last week after living together for a whole week (!) as I found out he was cheating on me.

My finances are now back in a mess (when will I ever learn?!) and it is the worst time to have no money as I want to be getting out and cheering myself up and meeting new people rather than sitting at home bored.

Started a thread on the families board to keep me going with managing to get out and meet people on the cheap, which is helping.

I just wish I would learn and stop messing up when I am actually starting to move forward!

Trying to manage on £30 until payday next friday to avoid dipping back in to my overdraft that I am slowly paying off. It is not going to happen!

    Thanks Skint

It has to cover petrol, but I usually spend £50 a week on that for work. Food is not too bad as the ex did a big food shop before kicked him out!

I also have the dog at the vets on monday which will cost me £25.

I have sold some stuff on ebay so just waiting for the money to transfer to my bank account, but will need to pay to post the items.

I think if I shut my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears and sing loudly enough I might just scrape through this week!

Luckily all bills etc have been paid
  • Ohhhh Katy - when I read your BF had moved in, I thought "yay - that'll help with costs a bit" ...... and then the bad news (((hugs))) - sorry to hear it didn't work out .... MEN!
