Childcare Costs ! Stuck !

  • To answer your OP - I'd ignore that online calculator thing and call the tax credit helpline. I always found a huge difference between what it said and their real estimate as it depends on when in the year you are starting from, allowances already paid out etc.
Also - your childcare providor has to be registered - worth checking they are - many aren't.
    May 2018 - £159k + £3.5K CC - let the countdown begin! :)
    March 2019 - CC gone and bye bye M2 on 31st! £140k to go.:j

But I have worked for 42 years, never been unemployed and paid a monthly tax bill that would make your eyes water!

So as a part of a pensioner couple, both being severely disabled, don't you think that for one, I have a right to object that the taxes I continue to pay in January every year are paid to help out with your childcare arrangements?

Object all you want. I can only hope you will reflect on your hypocrisy and stupidity.

And no, I'm not usually one for name calling.

Yes, you do, but not in the Benefits & Tax credits Forum as it goes against the rules/guidelines set for this forum laid out in the sticky post by MSE Martin at the top.
Perhaps you have not read it or have forgotten and need to revisit it

It is my understanding that the type of posts you (and some others) are making in various threads in the Benefits forum should really be made on the Discussion Time forum as they contain personal opinions on Benefits Claimants/The Benefits System but no direct advice/information/help relating to the thread topic/original question - viz:

This board [Benefits & Tax Credits] is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.
This board is for people to work out what they are entitled to, and we hope other forummers will continue to provide invaluable help in this.
However, anyone disrupting threads in this board with their views on the benefits system, making impolite comments about benefits claimaints, or taking part in arguments (whether or not you started them) will have action taken against them
The key point is this: "Want to discuss the benefits system? Go to the discussion board". This board is for helping people get what they are entitled to.
And yes, this very post could be said to contain 'no direct advice/information/help relating to the thread topic/original question' it could also possibly be said that by making this post I am 'taking part in arguments' but my post will be indirectly helpful to the OP if it results in a few less unhelpful posts for them to plough through whilst looking for the answer to their question.....
In a Nutshell, unless you are a high wage earner, then unfortunately single Mum's are not always better off financially working full time!

Yup, agreed. It's a careful balancing act (of so many different things!!).

I rather see peoples taxes being used towards childcare so the childs parent can work.

It works both ways, you are getting disability benefits, state pension, free bus travel and a winter fuel allowance. Do I object? The only thing I object to is the free bus travel, the government cannot afford to subsidise it really and shouldn't, that money could be put into the NHS for example.

Having worked for 42 years doesn't give you any rights in terms of claiming benefits and even less right to judge those who do get tax relief when they work and currently contribute towards your very large benefit entitlement. You are no doubt benefiting from a much high disposable income than her, so who are you to judge?

Maybe she doesn't want to contribute towards your DLA, but she has no choice, as you have no choice but to contribute towards help with her childcare...

Sorry to interrupt an argument that has nothing to do with me but just out of interest what would you rather your taxes were spent on? Personally, I think that supporting people to work and providing care and education for the children of our country who will one day be the backbone of the country is one of the best ways taxes can be spent. Surely it goes both ways, your taxes help with childcare so she can work, this lady's taxes help with your pension and disablement benefit as you are unable to. Makes sense to me

But what has happened to the taxes & NIC that I have paid in the past 42 years and still continue to do so? Don't tell me, I was supporting everybody then as I continue to do so!

So in effect I am taking back just a fraction of what I paid in!

Disability payments yes I agree - far too much is being paid out to too many that don't deserve it. I am embarassed of the level that I get and as I have said elsewhere I would have no objection if they took away the DLA & AA if I was assured that the payments would go only to the most severe disabled. That is why I applaud PIP & Universal credit.

OAP, that is based on what my wife has paid in. I won't get mine for a few years, but that also will be linked to what I have paid in.

For the rest - yes scrap them and possibly make them means tested

At the moment, you are being supported massively more than you are supporting anyone if the thread about how much benefits you were getting is to go by... As a matter of fact, it sounds like you are getting more of a disposable income than many people in the high tax band.

How did you bring up your family when they were little? Your wife stayed at home and you supported them? Well lucky you that you were working age at a time when most families could live well with only one salary, or if your wife worked, at a time when childcare costs were such that you didn't work just to pay childcare.

I really fail to understand how anyone can be so bitter when they themselves are flooded in benefits money and could very well continue to do so for many years, yet they don't have half the costs that families with children have...

It doesn't work like this, as you are well aware.

Besides, you need to take into account every doctors trip etc, that is all from the same pot. I know that my daughter has cost the NHS thousands in her 17 months of life - here's hoping you don't begrudge that also.
