Guess what this weekend's project is, weather permitting? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Came back, filled in trench, washed hands, made cup of coffee...... realised I still had a full box of seed potatoes.
Yep, I left them out of the trench :rotfl:mrbadexample wrote: »

Good luck, we have rain & gales here (N.Yorks), definitely not digging a pond weather!! Hopefully it'll brighten up by the weekend.
I bought some multi-purpose compost today ~ 40L for £1.99 from Ald1 ~ did my back in getting the bag in & out of the trolley
There was one solitary [STRIKE]stick[/STRIKE] plant for sale, which the label said was a gooseberry. It really did look like an ex-gooseberry so I didn't buy it, even though I would really love to have one. Are goosegog plants supposed to look dead when you buy them??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

yes they don't look alive at all when you buy a stick but as soon as you give it some attention and nie compost, leaves will appear.£ 2012 in 2012

Thanks nmaria, wish I'd bought it now. I just don't trust myself to buy the right things yet, I'd rather check here firstNo point in going back tomorrow as it'll be long gone, but lesson learned for next time

Another Yorkie eh? Where are you then?
Poundland sell gooseberry bushes. Quite cheaply too.If you scrape back the bark with a fingernail, as near to the root as you can get (they're wrapped in plastic usually) you can see if it looks alive (green) or dead (brown).
Do you know anyone with a gooseberry bush? They're easy enough to take cuttings from.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

To check if a stick is alive or dead, towards the root end scrape away a just a little of the bark with your finger nail.
If it's green it's alive if not it's dead.0 -
I'm a bit (very) excited because I have pimineto de padron seedlings appearing! My mama brought the seeds back from Spain ( homeland) last year and I didn't think they would germinate. Fingers crossed they grow and produce lovely peppers. Linky about them:

Don't think my DIY skills are up to making a bench sadly and the OH is no better,he managed to drop the drill onto the fish tank the other day.Smelly water and flappy fish all over the front room floor then into the kitchen.
Wonder how John is after his Op?
Does anybody else keep checking seed trays every hour or so for germination? I expect my newly planted seeds to have germinated, sprouted true leaves and be pot bound in the same day.Sadly it's not that fast and no matter how many times I check a day nowts happening. It's sooooo slow.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0
