As both of us are complete novices... where to begin?! I'm sure he'll be relatively impatient at the start...
Greetings.
I think the best way to start is choosing veg that you both like. Then consider whether it can be grown in a planter. Carrots etc, yes. Great big cabbages, not so much.
Once you've an idea of what you want to grow, you can start looking at the other stuff like space requirements, sowing times etc.
Why not come back when you have a list of things you might like to grow, and we can take it from there. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Not even Christmas yet, and I am thinking about next years seeds. Too soon?
I had roasted butternut squash at a restaurant with lunch the other day, and butternut squash soup as a starter for our work's Christmas dinner. Not impressed _pale_ Sort of pleased though, because I'd been considering giving growing space to them next year. Now I know I most certainly do not need to!0 -

I didn't think I liked squash until annie123 made me grow squash. Now I can't wait for next year - I've got a few varieties.

Been AWOL for a while as my computer decided to pack up but my daughter was over today and got it working again - sort of!! - looks as if I will have to buy a new one in the new year as this one is getting quite old - bit like me really!
Sav_606_rebels I found the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew very helpful and have adapted some of his ideas to grow stuff in pots. It is impossible to grow stuff in the ground here as I seem to be living on the top of a pile of stones so Mel`s ideas are proving very helpful to me. Google Square Foot Gardening and you will find loads of helpful advice on his website.0 -

Never too soon to think about seedsI cleaned my root trainers yesterday and a few other pots in anticipation of seed sowing.

Commercially cooked food never tastes as nice as your own. BNS and red pepper soup is delicious.mrbadexample wrote: »I didn't think I liked squash until annie123 made me grow squash. Now I can't wait for next year - I've got a few varieties.

I have Mel's SFG book. It's very interesting to read and take bit's out of but I couldn't grow like that, far too organised for me0 -
