  • Excuse me if I am wrong but I have always thought you have to have running water to grow watercress so that is why I suggested installing a fountain. There is such a thing as landcress though which is said to be a good alternative - never had it myself though so can`t help you much there.

@Annie, Hope you have a wonderfully enjoyable birthday!

@MrBad, Well done on the quitting smoking and also on the cycling and the weight loss. Keep up the good work and continue to let us all know how your getting on with getting fitter. I so envy you. Till i got ill i was half my current weight and lithe and toned. Now i am perusing online for which wheelchair/scooter to purchase. Still, doesn't stop me being glad for others to be able to look after themselves and increase their physcial wellbeing. :)

P.S. I have 3 sweet pepper plants in the kitchen (bought them in from outside in plackytunnel) i am going to try to overwinter them. Lots of leaves are chewed though, before i bought them inside, so i don't know how they will fare.

I think I've sounded the death bell for Percy the pepper and Arnie the Aubergine - they've been struggling on my windowsill, so I've repotted with a bit of feed and new muck. They're in smaller pots though....

MBE - just thinking, when do you start planning next year? How do you go about working out what to do when, where and how? I've got some time on my hands so thought I'd try to organise myself a bit better.

I didn't know that. Oh well, no watercress then. :(
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I must confess that I really don't do much planning. Most of the things I do, I do a bit late. I should try to be a bit more organised.

I will be sowing peppers in Jan / Feb, and tomatoes in about March, but I haven't thought it through much further than that. :o

Thanks kath. I've had plenty of encouragement which has helped enormously. :)

Feb 18th 2010 was my date and it was no trouble either. When I had the Ruptured Aneurism they put me in an induced coma and while I was out of it they stuck patches on me
Then the week before I came out they did it again even though I had no desire to smoke at all. But glad to say it was a good thing that came out of it all. :T

Thank you all for the birthday wishes, some more subtle and dignified than others!:p

Had a lovely time, and don't look any different to being in my 40's which is a relief :D

And there was me all pleased with myself for cycling around an hour a day at CP. Very impressed MBE. No chance of me using my bike locally I'd be knocked off in mins on the flat and could only go left as right is a very very steep hill. We make do with chucking the bikes in the back of a van and driving off to someone nice away from London traffic.

John that hospital experience sounds very  pleased you came through it ok.
And quitting smoking is something I've failed at this year, but I have gone from 30-40 per day :o to around 10 roll ups. Switched to roll ups after someone gave me one and can't stand them and have to make one first which is more so**ing around rather than just taking one out of the packets, but I'm down to around 10 of these. Had hoped to have stopped by my birthday but alas not. So I've picked hubby's birthday next summer as my goal.
Did consider a winter date but not as easy to find things to take your mind off it if I want one. I found this out 20 years ago when I quite for 4 months.
I did try a patch once and found they made me feel very very sick within 20 mins of putting it on.

I'm going to try this next year, DS has grown it in his pond but only to help take out extra nutrients and wouldn't want to eat it from there.
  • Thanks so much for the watercress link Annie - I think I might have a go at that if I can find some watercress somewhere. I don`t think I will take it from a river though as I don`t know what nasties would be dwelling there so I shall go down the supermarket route - depending on whether they sell it of course. Maybe it would be a good crop for your next challenge MBE!
