It's ok, I'm back now.
I could have mended the PC earlier, but I chose the "mend it for nowt if you're patient" option.:money:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Welcome back MBE0

hoorah! Welcome back. Now tell me what I should be doing to put my garden to bed for the winter please. And also how to resurrect the pepper plant I appear to have killed by repotting it. Please.0

Oops, been away a bit. Hope you are all well and not suffering badly with the season. Truth be told, I'm missing having lots of stuff growing in the garden to keep me occupied at the weekends.
Just a wee update from me. Today we had a pretty hard frost and much of it is still there in the shade. Darn cold out, but it was blue skies and sunshine so about time to see if my parsnips had been eaten from underneath. Was very pleased to find they have done quite well :j
Took some fiddling to get them out because the ground is pretty frozen in places. Will be trying some roasted tonight.
Checked on my garlic too, planted at the end of October. Iberian has all come up, and seems to be doing ok. Cristo hasn't shown its face at all yet. Don't know if this is because it takes longer, or because something went wrong. And Marco has two up, two still hiding.
Last job was to rake up all the leaves. Bit late I know but it's been grotty for weeks and I couldn't face it (yes, wimpy I know). Did what Monty suggested a few weeks back and have put them in black bags with some water. Fingers crossed for leaf mould in the Spring0 -

It's either in shock and may settle or you could be drowning it with too much wet soil around it now. If you think that's a possibility, then re pot again to remove excess wet soil.

Nice looking 'snips, well done. Much better than I've ever been able to grow on my clay soil.0 -
Quiet, isn't it? :shhh:
Everyone ready for Santa? I need another couple of hours in the garden to tidy up a bit more, but all else is good. PSB looking ok, leeks looking very disappointing & small.Must be time to investigate the parsnips soon.

Yes, very quiet! I hope your leeks pick up a bit, but I guess that depends how much time they have left. When would you expect to be pulling them?
I have pretty much put the garden to bed for the winter, apart from the garlic. But I gather that will pretty much take care of itself anyway...
Slightly puzzled about my pepper plants. Dug them both up, put them in pots and they now sit on my windowsill. One of them totally stopped doing anything, and the leaves are slowly disintegrating, but it still looks "alive". The other one has this last week or two had a burst of new growth, and I noticed this morning that it is flowering?! Ummm... :huh:0 -

And who's fault is thatI've posted more on this page then you have!
A reminder to watch Geminids meteor shower tonight (westwards to overhead) if the rain clouds don't come over.
My leeks are small too but the last won't be pulled till March so may grow a bit more yet.
No, not ready for santa, didn't get enough notice this year :whistle:0 -
Hello to the Greenfingered contingent of MSE...
I was wondering whether any of you might be able to give me some advise...!
OH is keen to start growing.. "anything I can eat" in a very small garden in Surrey. Space for growing in the ground is absolutely zero, so I've decided to get him some planters, seeds and other bits for Christmas (which we're not celebrating until the New Year for several reasons!).
As both of us are complete novices... where to begin?! I'm sure he'll be relatively impatient at the start...0 -
Hi, Very exciting and a nice present :j
I take it you don't mind what you grow then, as long as you can eat it?
Does your back garden get the sun at all? I realise it dosn't at this time over yearbut what about during the spring or summer?
It will be a long term project so I hope your OH is in for the long haul.
For instance if you were to grow tomatoes you won't be picking them until around July, but they will be the best ever :T
Do you have space to start things off inside? windowsills are ideal. This would help things along in the first place.0
