Your pond is looking a bit dodgy too - have you got a net over it or are those leaves actually in the water?

There's quite a few in the pond. And when I fish them out, I find all the little pond snails on them too. :(

Annie123 told me to net it. Did I listen? Well, yes, but it was in the "too difficult" box. :o
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

What are we going to do with you! :naughty:

It's not difficult, pond net is best due to small hole size but any netting will do even old net curtains and peg down with camping pegs (99p stores) or stones.
That looks like a lot of leaves in the pond, maybe get a small pond net too?
When you fish the leaves out, leave them on the edge of the pond and the snails should make their own way back in.

Off to Centreparcs tomorrow for my 50th birthday
Still can't believe it, but never mind better than the alternative
I've booked a walk with the rangers which tells you all about the trees and animals there and how they survive winter. Got nothing to do with growing MBE's dinner but I thought I'd tell you all the same :D

Many of the trees here are still in full leaf, very late this year. If my redcurrents haven't lost all their leaves by next week I'm moving them anyway into pots away from the mice.
I've got more chillis than I know what to do with this year, even the ones left out side are still ok. Might string some up and put in food hamper pressies.

Hope you've netted that pond now MBE?
  • MBE seems to have gone very quiet Annie - do you think he has got lost under all those leaves in his pond?

Have a lovely 50th birthday - my elder daughter will be 50 later this month too - makes me feel rather old to realize that three of my children have now reached that age. My `baby` is just 47.

Not much going on in the garden now so I am pursuing one of my indoor hobbies of painting right now - no, not the decorating type, bit past it for that sort of activity I`m afraid. I sold my first painting on Saturday and am feeling dead chuffed. Will be celebrating at art class this morning with cakes all round and what money is left over will be going to charity.

Apologies for going a bit off topic there MBE - hope everything is OK in your neck of the woods.

I'm still here! It is a bit quiet just now as there's not much to be done in the garden at the moment, other than a bit of tidying up. The pond is still un-netted, and absolutely choked with leaves. :o I'll be fishing them out tomorrow before the rugby, weather permitting.

I haven't been on too much lately, as I have been busy trying to lose a bit of weight and get a bit fitter. I recently had to buy a bigger pair of trousers for work (38" waist!), as I couldn't get in the old pair and still put my wallet in the back pocket. I also hit 17 stone (albeit fully clothed in jeans, boots, etc. I estimate I was about 16 stone 8lbs). :o

    So I bought this:

It's a Specialized Globe Work 2012, bought on September 13, just over 8 weeks ago. The intention was to cut out all the short car journeys, like nipping to the post office to collect a parcel or going to my darts match on a Wednesday. I got mudguards fitted otherwise I would have an excuse not to ride it in the rain...;) It needed to be practical if it was to replace the car, hence the rear parcel rack. I even got a nice basket to go on the front:

The hard part was motivating myself enough to actually use it, but that's worked out better than expected. Since 13th September I haven't used the car for journeys less than about 10 miles unless I had to collect something I couldn't carry on the bike. I have never declined to use it just because it's raining. I've covered 431 miles, and lost about 18lbs. :j

I really struggled at first, as I only quit smoking in January, and would be near to collapse after half a dozen miles or so. Hills were a killer. It's getting better though. I go looking for (small!) hills for fun. Last Friday I rode 16 miles to Tamworth to meet a colleague for work. 20 miles back as I went the wrong way. :rotfl:

    I'm loving it...

  • Hurry up and clear out that pond MBE and then you can install a fountain and grow some watercress. Watercress has come back into fashion now and very healthy stuff it is too.

I'd grow watercress but you can forget the fountain! :p
