You're way ahead of me Drea, I've not got even a hint of colour yet, but I have tonight picked......................................... drum roll .................................. my first 2 round courgettes :j :j:j:j
I'm sure they doubled in size yesterday whilst I was at inlaws. Wanted to post a pic but can't find the camera
Hubby has promised to make me a bee home
He'd have promised me anything, ...............he forgot our wedding anniversary  he remembered mid week, then had one of those days at work on Friday and forgot it was on Saturday.0 -
My tomatoes are ripening very rapidly now and I have picked loads with still loads more to come. I thought that Maskotka was a dwarf cherry type but my plants grew to about three and a half feet and the fruits are more the size of a small plum - could the seed somehow have got into the wrong packet and they are not Maskotka after all. Has anyone grown these and can let me know. Not that I am complaining though as I have had such a good crop while people all around locally seem to be really struggling with their tomatoes the same size and colour of a pea.0

He forgot your anniversary and you only went for a bee home?
You could have probably got away with a new kitchen, at least.:rotfl:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I've never grown Maskotka, so can't comment on that. For me, it's not just the size of fruit, it's the amount of it. Most of my plants have fruit on one truss, but not many have much more than that. The Galina are proving reliable and early though - I've had about 4 so far with the same again ready. Not much for all my efforts but I'm still optimistic. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I'm growing maskotka (free from GW magazine) mine are the size of a large cherry. I've had 2 off them and there are about another 6 ripe. They have definitely been my most reliable toms this year-with at least 5 trusses on each plant that have good size toms on them.My galina...well, I've had three toms off two plants and there are about another 3 toms on the one plant and nothing on the other. Still lots of my GH toms have flower trusses but no fruits. Outside the GH I have gardeners delight and have no fruit on any of these (6 plants) a few flowers but not many it has to be said. I also have an early stupice outside and that has given me 2 ripe fruits (quite large toms on that) and has another few on it but no other trusses on it yet. Just not a good year for toms for me I'm afraid.I'm thinking of buying one of the easy grow systems for the GH toms next year-has anyone else got one of these and if so, what do you think of them?0

Before you all get jealous about my success with the tomatoes I have to tell you that my dwarf french beans have been a total failure this year with four separate sowings ending up as two inch high sticks - I have never seen so many snails as I have since I moved here three years ago. Just one of my ten sweet pepper plants has survived a snail attack and is now showing signs of producing a flower.
I think I have already mentioned my shoulder high lawn (well it was shoulder high before the rain flattened it the other day) well I have now got myself a part-time gardener to help me with the difficult jobs as and when she can and we have started lowering the level of the grass. Even a strimmer couldn`t tackle it so it is going to be a long slow job tackling it with shears.
I have now invested in a new pair of shears for myself and yesterday managed to hack a path through to my thornless blackberry bush and rescue about 12oz of berries before the birds got to them. I was well pleased with my efforts yesterday and managed to over half fill my large garden bin with grass and weeds - not bad going I thought for someone who suffers from both sciatica and vertigo. I did have frequent rests though and it took me the whole afternoon to do it. It was a case of cut a few feet, take a rest, rake up and bin what I had cut, rest again, cut some more, rest again, rake, rest, cut, rest, rake, rest. Yes I am feeling quite proud of myself and my gardener will have quite a surprise when she next comes over and sees what I have managed to achieve. Still a long way to go yet but we hope to be able to get the mower over it by the end of August.0 -

I tried for a round the world trip, and a home with a massive garden and overwintering in the Caribbean but alas we lack the funds apparently, never mind, so bee home it is. I'm happy with that and I'm low maintenance anywayPre-war_babe_33 wrote: »Before you all get jealous about my success with the tomatoes I have to tell you that my dwarf french beans have been a total failure this year with four separate sowings ending up as two inch high sticks - I have never seen so many snails as I have since I moved here three years ago.
Sorry about your beans but that makes me feel better. I've got 2" stems at present, last chance for this year.
Found my camera, so here are the 2 round courgettes (packet said pick from golf ball size to cricket ball size). Not knowing what size that was I picked them anyway and I found 2 long runner beans :j all the rest are tiny so 2 in a stir fry I think.0 -

Harvested a whole load of French and runner beans today for freezing. Plenty still left for dinner tomorrow too!I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Well done
Had a quick look this morning and I have 1 with a slight touch of colour. I have loads of flower trusses still appearing in addition to plenty of green toms. I'm going to pinch out a couple with the most toms to see if they will ripen sooner, but leave the rest as I've picked toms upto late October before if it stays mild enough.Angelfeathers wrote: »Harvested a whole load of French and runner beans today for freezing. *sigh* and there was me pleased with 2 at last :rotfl: nice looking crop.
I have told hubby to stop feeling guilty,as every day I've had something; flowers, dinner at my fav Thai restaurant, bags of compost, 2 garden arches to grow squashes over (reduced to £2 each at homebase;)), seeds and an IOU for a collapsible home made cold frame. Think thats enough now0
