Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

I have told hubby to stop feeling guilty,as every day I've had something; flowers, dinner at my fav Thai restaurant, bags of compost, 2 garden arches to grow squashes over (reduced to £2 each at homebase;)), seeds and an IOU for a collapsible home made cold frame. Think thats enough now0

I've pretty much repotted all my toms. So,e are now outside, as I don't have enough room. However, I have flowers, but don't have a single to growing yet...:(
The carrots are generally coming along ok. Beetroot also seem to be doing pretty well.
The lettuce I planted 4 weeks ago seems to be very slow, & only something like 50% of the seeds have sprouted.:(
My peas seem to be giving up the ghost too.:( I love peas & have never managed to grow them. Serious concerted attempt going to have to be made next year...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

been together for 20 years but apparently it feels longer! I could get used to gardening bits coming home regularly mind
As I'm off to mums tomorrow went to check nothing needed watering tonight only to find the 2 small courgettes that I left on Sunday are now massive! these grow quicker than the long shaped ones.
My 1 tom with a red glow is coming along nicely, and the rest of them are growing like made but will have to wait till Sunday for tying in and pruning back a bit.
In fact everything needs tying in or pruning back, my cucumber is now growing in my neighbours garden and I want it back and I have a squash of some sorts growing up the cucumber and over the strawberries. The only things that look neat and tidy are the leeks waiting to go out, which I must do soon.
MBE.........I know you're glued to the TV watching the olympics but you've not posted any pics lately and I'm feeling nosey0 -

I thought that Maskotka was a dwarf cherry type but my plants grew to about three and a half feet and the fruits are more the size of a small plum - could the seed somehow have got into the wrong packet and they are not Maskotka after all. Has anyone grown these and can let me know. Not that I am complaining though as I have had such a good crop while people all around locally seem to be really struggling with their tomatoes the same size and colour of a pea.
Interesting! I too am growing that variety, I have three plants, and although they were battered by gales and rain, they are outside against a warm wall, and I have loads of tomatoes. I've eaten quite a few, and although the first few were tasteless and mushy, they are now rather nice. I prefer them slightly unripe, as they are sharper, and firmer. They are about 2 foot tall max, with multiple stems. I suspect a vine would be more productive, but I am pleased. One plant has a many handfuls of tomatoes on, and loads and loads of flowers. The one in a 12" pot is doing best. The ones in Morrison flower tubs are about half as productive, so I think a 12" pot is best. The tomatoes are variable in size. Some are like small normal tomatoes, many are like cherry tomatoes, but most are slightly rugby ball shaped with a pointy bit on the end.
My courgettes are now taking off, with loads on the two outdoor plants.
My chillis are still sad and pathetic, and probably will not produce pods before the frosts, apart from my Rocoto which is 7 or more years old, and is now producing a second flush of flowers.
Chard is 6" tall, not sure when to harvest. Mint is doing well.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

Do you have any idea how many events I haven't had chance to watch yet?
I've not got long so I'll be brief:
I made a cage for the bog garden to keep the nice bees out:
The bee hotel is seeing plenty of action:
One day I'll have a runner bean:
This is achocha. It's a bit watery and a bit bland, but that was expected:
I'm worried that these spuds have blight:
I think my squash might rot. the flower had gone all brown and soggy and I think it has affected the squash:
Time will tell as to whether it spreads. I have another one developing and I've taken the flower off it to prevent it from happening again.
I've harvested a handful of French beans. Beetroot, turnips and spuds all quite productive. Tomatoes still struggling but I've got a few ripe ones. Peppers not looking too bad but I didn't have time to photograph them.
Must go, I'm missing stuff! :wave:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I've got quite a few tomatoes to use up and fancy pasta, anyone know any simple pasta sauce recipes? All I'm finding on google is tinned tomato recipes!
My runners look like yours MBE, no sign of beans but plenty flowers!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Great pictures MBE. I too am glued to the TV. GB is doing really well to be in third position. I remember the 1948 Olympics in Wembley too, which I listened to on the radio whenever I got the chance.
No gardening going on at the moment but have loads of tomatoes to do something with, so like Drea I could do with a good recipe for pasta sauce and now have a second batch of tomatoes starting to ripen too.0 -
Remember me? I've mostly been sulking because nothing is growing.
So, I dug over the whole plot today and removed the weeds and pathetic-ness. Is there anything I can plant in the next few weeks that I can harvest this autumn, and that will survive while I"m on hols for 2 weeks.
It's got all traumatic again.0
