Yes, sometimes it comes out in one piece, but more often than not (in my garden anyway) it snaps & leaves a small piece in the ground, ready to grow into another dandelion!! Hopefully your soil is better than mine, we have clay.

Is it really too late to sow my Leeks outside now,I live Middlesbrough way so it's poo cold and wet weather. If its too late I'll just save my seeds till next year,if it's fine I can pop them in tomorrow if the rain ever stops.

I bought a pot of Musselburgh leeks from the garden centre because I'd left mine too late. Must be easily 50 in there. I've sowed a few too, but they look just like my spring onions. :(
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

What do you do with skinny leeks? Can you just harvest them skinny and throw them in a stir fry?

I've just put petunia seeds into a pot, wrapped them up in a sandwich bag and sat them next to a storage heater.

I honestly don't know how these can be classed as seeds - I swear grains of table salt are bigger. Are any of my veg seeds going to be like this??? I have Salad Onion, various lettuces and carrots to get in ASAP.

When I read that they were tiny, I was picturing things like.. sesame seeds and apple pips... I'm fully expecting absolutely nothing to happen!

I've tried a lot of flowers from seed this year-nasturtium are quite big seeds and seem to grow amazingly well. I couldn't get rid of them at the old house. But petunia seeds...argh, I've tried them for the first time this year. Such a beautiful petinuia we picked but out of a whole packed of seed about 6 have germinated  and  and :( I have no idea what I did wrong but had a similar reaction with some poppies. So last week I tried the poppies again and...they seem to be germinating and multiplying before my eyes...sadly I used all the petunia seeds the first time round :(

Well another busy garden day for us-I feel like all the hard work we did last year getting the garden back in shape and re-inventing the long forgotten veg plot is really paying off. I managed to weed half of a large border and hubby staked the lupins that seem to be growing really well this year-looks like we have a few seedlings too, so might try moving some. Lots of foxglove babies too.
Then we got to potting on-loads of osteopernum, chinese asters and cosmos re-potted.
Then the veg-potted on 53!!!!!!!!! Gardeners delight toms. These aren't all for me I am growing some for a colleague at work who runs an allotment scheme. But some are for me. Also potted on some sweet peppers and a few more chillis. Total count now for toms, chillis and peppers:
3 early galine(a?), 3 early stupice, 3 Dr caroline all toms. 4 bush toms-free on gardeners world mag. Then numerous gardeners delight.
22 chillies-mix of early jalapenos, albertos locoto and wenks hot yellow (only about 5 of the latter).
    8 sweet peppers.
I think this should be enough :D with plenty for family and friends too :)

Oh I'm thinking I might have a bit of a strip of soil for some comfrey-not very large maybe 1 foot wide by 4 foot long. Would this be ok for comfrey? Where can I get it from? Any more advice gratefully received on it!

Well I went for my grow bags this afternoon and got loads of jobs done , was just finishing up as it tipped down.
I got my sweetpea seedlings in against the netted fence panels, interspersed with peas, made a strawb patch, potted some herbs, toms and PIPs and generally tidied up
WAs standing in the house tidying up my seed box when I realised my horrendous mistake.......... I have planted the wrong pack of peas.
Had a pack of dwarf (Kelvedon Wonder) and a pack of tall ones (free from somewhere). I have only gone and put the dwarf ones up against the fence instead of the tall ones. :o
Will have to wait till they show up, pull them out and plant the proper ones. The dwarf ones are to go towards the front of the bed as they don't need as much support.

I also have shelves in the garden, black plastic stackable ones (I think Keter?) from B & Q. They are great for stashing things and will happily grow plants on the top shelf. Were quite expensive but have lasted years and been taken down and put back up several times.

MBE My spring onions have only just shown face in the last couple of days, they were sewn weeks ago.

I've done a silly thing too today Aria so you're not alone. :)

Despite the fact it's best to sow carrot seeds straight outside, I thought I'd have a go at sowing the seeds into a root trainer. I figured it would at least get them started off.

Then, after I'd done it, I realised that I'd mixed in some vermiculite with the seed compost which of course means the compost is now kinda 'stoney'. I expect the carrots will grow all gnarled and twisted now. :o

I'm sure they will taste the same though and the dog loves any carrot no matter what shape it is. :D

Yep, skinny leeks are exactly that - you just need more of them.

The tiniest veg seed I have come across thus far is celery. Some flowers are properly weeny.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

eBay. You want the Bocking 14 variety, as that doesn't seed everywhere. The space sounds ok - it will either grow, or it won't. :p
